ESPN College GameDay watch next week:
Kansas State v. WVU: would be surprised if they go here with the absolute trouncing in Lubbock.
South Carolina v. Florida: should be a CBS game, S. Car was featured last week.
Any other possibilities? Where will they go? If only MSU was halfway decent this year, would be pretty much a no brainer.
October 13th, 2012 at 7:30 PM ^
for State-Ohio.
Gotta be Bama-Tennessee or SCar-Florida knowing those guys.
October 13th, 2012 at 7:32 PM ^
South Carolina/Florida is an important game--it'll decide which team gets to lose to Alabama in the SEC championship and which team gets to lose to them in the MNC.
October 13th, 2012 at 7:27 PM ^
I hate ND fans and I hope they lose the rest of their games, and I also want Woodson to be the only defensive player to win the Heisman (unless another Wolverine does it), but at this point I think Te'o should be the leader for it.

See also Ryan, Jake
That's right, I said it.

As to the call, if you watch the replay, the side judge was running toward the pile BEFORE the roll into the end zone. This, if I am not mistaken, indicates that he blew the whistle as he deemed that forward progress was stopped. But, the announcers said that if the whistle had blown, there would be no replay review. I am confused.
I think it was VERY close as to whether or not forward progress was, in fact, stopped, but NO QUESTION that he crossed the goal line with his second effort. Further, the ref's explanation was strangely shallow -- usually they say something about what happened.
Add this to the communications problems Michigan experienced, the whistles from the crowd, and it's quite clear to me that ND is so desperate to be "back" that they're willing to do pretty much anything to tip the balance in their favor.
My deep seeded hatred of Notre Dame is only growing.

I can't find the written rule to check this, but my understanding is that a decision by an official that a ball carrier is down by rule (player steps out of bounds, forward progress is stopped, knee is down) is not reviewable. They can review the spot in these situations but they cannot overturn the decision to blow the play dead.
So if the call on the field had been that forward progress was stopped, all they could review was the spot at which forward progress had been stopped. That was CLEARLY short of the goal line (had progress really been stopped, I mean), so the call would have been confirmed and not merely allowed to stand.

Slept in.
Worked with my friend on our Sterling Engine (cool project, btw. I recommend it.)
Subway lunch.
Discovered that the wife WANTED to do the cleaning today. Told me to stay put.
The Michigan Difference.
Now? Tigers postseason and LOTS OF WARSTEINER!
After? I'm thinkin things a gentleman doesn't speak of in public.
As I said... perfect Saturday.
October 13th, 2012 at 7:49 PM ^
What are you powering with the Stirling engine?
October 13th, 2012 at 7:52 PM ^
Curiosity. Later? We're going to size it up and use it to charge batteries for an electric bike, I believe. The current one is a midget model. Something like 1/16th HP. Runs on hot water. We're familiarizing ourselves with the process and function, before we invest too heavily.

Just posting so I can stare at my signature.

I'm glad you updated it. I forgot that we're now one win away from 900.
Having #900 come over Dantonio's thug players (who will no doubt try to injure Denard) would be pretty sweet.
October 13th, 2012 at 7:55 PM ^
*will be pretty sweet, my friend. Last year Sparty tears tasted like sugar. This year, perhaps they'll be a little more rose-flavored...
October 13th, 2012 at 7:56 PM ^
In an appropriately timed commercial relative to the "down with pink wristbands" thread yesterday, Fox sports just had a cheesy public service announcement for prostate cancer awareness during the USC game. Erin Andrews looks good. Joey Harrington still looks ready to throw an interception.
October 13th, 2012 at 8:02 PM ^
" believe he scored also, but you know certain things happen at certain places when you play games that are close."
Whatever could he possibly mean with that statement?! Shockingly enough, Lou doesn't think it was even close to a Stanford td.
October 13th, 2012 at 8:02 PM ^
the traditional thumbs-up is a lot more convincing when the medic doesn't have to lift your arm in the air so you can give it.
Hope he's ok.
October 13th, 2012 at 8:11 PM ^
Vandy...wow. Long TD called back on a hold, then on 3rd down in the red zone their QB ran backwards and lost 14 yards to set up a long field goal. Some teams, man. Naturally, the field goal was blocked. 11-7 Florida.
October 13th, 2012 at 8:11 PM ^
October 13th, 2012 at 8:14 PM ^
Yes, I hear you. I just think they will be extra dirty. Injuries are my main concern.
October 13th, 2012 at 8:18 PM ^
Let them. If they get dirty just send Furman in to do to Maxwell what he did to the punt returner today. Or well Q-Wash to get dirty after he falls on Bell. Serousily though, if Denard helmet twist 2.0 happens, I want to see us return the favor.
October 13th, 2012 at 8:27 PM ^
The whole "this is their super bowl" thing really only applies to the fans.
Crappy teams don't just decide to be good one week.
October 13th, 2012 at 8:14 PM ^
ESPN was just highlighting some of LSU's recent struggles, most notably that the last 35 drives have led to one offensive TD and that they are 21% on 3rd-down conversions in conference play.
Surely some of the divots in the field are where Les has eaten spots into the turf to note where he would like receivers to be on routes.
October 13th, 2012 at 8:25 PM ^
Les refuses to hire someone like DeBord because he's uncomfortable with that kind of focus on offense.
October 13th, 2012 at 8:18 PM ^
Holy hell SC's unis are atrocious.
October 13th, 2012 at 8:23 PM ^
No they're not.
October 13th, 2012 at 8:30 PM ^
I think those are supposed to be the alternate "battle" uniforms that South Carolina had in mind for the LSU game this year, although they don't look a lot like the photo that I remember from the CBSSports.com piece. In any event, when I tuned into this game, I did not have have my glasses on and thought some of the Gamecocks were wearing olive rainboots (then of course, I put the glasses on and I realize that it is simply how some are wearing their socks), so that's what my first impression entailed.
October 13th, 2012 at 8:22 PM ^
still LOLing at Sparty
October 13th, 2012 at 8:26 PM ^
I've only watched about 5 plays of Indiana's offense, but they already have three drops.
October 13th, 2012 at 8:29 PM ^
tOSU is looking pretty flat as well. I'm not really fearing either of them right now. That O-Line on tOSU only seems to really play once every three plays.

Early stages along the road to the eventual heat death of the universe.
Entropy, and thus "uninformativeness", must increase over time--thus the eventual state of the universe is one in which all commentating positions are held by OSU grads and former ND coaches.

October 13th, 2012 at 8:44 PM ^
Football is so much more fun to watch when M wins earlier in the day, especially in dominating fashion. The Sparty losses also contribute to the fun.

Hoosiers block the punt!
October 13th, 2012 at 8:45 PM ^
LSU's offensive troubles continue, of course...
Two incomplete passes, a stunted attempt to just hurdle the Gamecock defensive line (best play of the drive really), and then an interception returned to about the 1 yard line.
Clearly, the Tigers are trying to innovate by going Sam McGuffie on defenses.
October 13th, 2012 at 8:50 PM ^
IU just blocked a punt in the red zone to Urban Meyer's dismay.

Even though their defense has been torched a couple times this season, I'm still very worried about us playing in Lincoln...at night.
October 13th, 2012 at 9:21 PM ^
We'll be ok if we can get a TD on one of the first two drives.
October 13th, 2012 at 8:55 PM ^
Who else is impressed with Indiana's front on D so far? Dominant's the right word I think
