Dantonio tells players to "keep their mouths shut" re: Michigan/Bama

Submitted by gebe659 on

I know there's a thread about this silly twitter war, but I figured that Dantonio commenting on it was big enough news.

Direct quotes from today's presser:

"I didn't see much difference when we played Alabama a couple of years ago. Our guys need to keep their mouths shut, especially the ones who aren't playing."

"I'll address that with our football team. I think it was disrespectful. "

"I don't think that's something that we should be doing. The credit goes to the person in the arena. Michigan has a tremendous team."

If Lewan got called for half the crap he gets away with, he alone would lead the league in penalties. As it is, the officiating tends to favor UM, both at home and away. That's not really a good indicator of discipline. A better indicator might be run ins with the law, and by my count, Hoke is leading Dantonio 8-0 in his short tenure. I mean, Saint Hoke is letting a felon play against Air Force this weekend! You folks were throwing a fit because we had someone accused of a misdemeanor; you have a felony on your hands, and not a peep is heard. The hypocrisy is painful.

That the tweets were largely done by freshmen that haven't seen the field yet, and so likely have no idea of history, or would like to pretend that the loss to Bama never happened.

Out of the four players whose comments were reported, one (Allen) is a junior, one (Hill) is a sophomore, one (Artinian) is a second-year guy who redshirted last year, and one (Lyles) is an actual freshman.  One out of four doesn't seem "large" to me, but that word evidently means something different to you.

give him credit.

virtually every other thing he's ever said has read like it was from the handbook of people who have a chip on their shoulder or the guide to inferiority complexes. this sounded like a reasonable person saying something reasonable.

who knows, maybe he had a stroke, and we'll only see sensible comments from him from now on. or dare i say, maybe he's grown up a little?

mature mark dantonio is mature.

I can't wait until Michigan finally beats that piece of shit and his band of criminals.

Second rate school, second rate football program, second class citizens.

That's what state has always been, and that's what they will forever be.

Don't forget that this is the same coach that held a "moment of silence" after the The Horror.

Glad to see him condemn this though, however hypocritical it may be. Maybe success has mellowed him out a bit?

Good for him. I'm glad he said something. I bet the only reason he said anything was because he doesn't expect to beat Michigan this year. State didn't look so good Friday night.

I so hope that when State comes to Ann Arbor, Kovaks absolutely levels Nick Hill with a devistating, yet completely legal, hit that will preferably cause a fumble which he will then pick up and run in for a touchdown.

I've was baffled last week when State fans cheered for 'Bama and celebrated the win.

A: Saban dicked them over in a fashion I would not easily forgive,

B: the B1G desprately needs national credibility;

C: if they are making a national championship run this year, they should want every team they can beat this year to kill it in the OOC

D: Glass houses/throwing stones/ect.

he's afraid of bulletin board material. He's made plenty of comments himself (where's the threat, etc.) to show that doesn't concern him.

My take is he was a bit embarassed and also didn't want his team thinking too highly of themselves - worried about overconfidence.
