I can totally see why tsiO, didn't want Mr. Ferns.  Who realistically wants a 6'3" 235lb linebacker who lines up at running back and also happens to be  a pretty good sprinter on his high school track team.  I mean what the heck are Brady Hoke and his staff thinking.  I can sum up what they're thinking in one word : TREMENDOUS

Any OSU fan who says he didn't have an offer is lying. Urban definitely liked Ferns. He's got too high a ceiling not to get an offer. At the same time, the kid was honestly fourth at best on the OSU LB board. McMillan, Booker, and Garrett are all considered higher priorities. It's not a knock on Ferns, it's just how OSU seems to be targeting them. UM isn't really in on those three guys and obviously Hoke and Urban don't always rank guys the same. Butt and Taco are prime examples.

Great get. Make no mistake, he definitely had an offer from us. He's a good athlete and a good pickup. Kid said that the city atmosphere at Ohio State wasn't for him and chose what he thought was his best fit so I can't really fault him. OSU won't always fit every talented Ohio kid.

...he's got to deal with those wackos for two whole years.  He's got to give them *something* more than "I like Michigan better" or else life is going to be made even worse by the cooler poopers than it already will be.  If there's some other plausible explanation, they may tone it down by 10%.

Whatever the reason, he already stated that he likes Michigan better. I don't think he'll get as much grief as you think because a) he lives in a town that is half WVU fans and b) OSU fans have known for a whole that he was not considering OSU. He's been straightforward from early on that he just didn't have any interest on the Buckeyes which I think shows he's a mature kid. He's been straight up and hasn't played any games the whole process. Definitely has his head on straight.

...and you're being cool enough that I almost regret my gratuitous pot shots at the less classy of your kind.  Almost.

Seriously, though, thanks for the insight and contribution over here in enemy territory.  Genuinely appreciated.

It's more apparent that the days of sweater vest and his "fence around Ohio" strategy or whatever those Bucknuts called it is as good as gone. Urban might have a different strategy with the national recruiting approach, but Ohio remains a hotbed of hs talent ((#4 overall by rivals I believe). Hoke walks into Urban's backyard and takes (depending on the source) 3 of the top 6-8 prospects from the state last year, and begins '14 with the #2 overall prospect in the state.

But at this point, I think it's pretty obvious what the best recruiting pitch in the nation is:

Hello, son. I see you play Linebacker. That's wonderful! I would like it if you came to play linebacker for me at Michigan. I can turn you into this guy, if you like.

Would you like to be that guy?

I'm ridiculously giddy...regardless of where he ends-up in the rankings and how many "stars" he has, this is an amazing kid with the potential to be a great Michigan Man and football player.

Congrats to the Ferns family, and the University of Michigan.  Everyone's a winner!

Without saying but NEVER did I expect Hoke to get just GREAT recruits so early...I mean I don't EVER remember recruiting this well...I mean Lloyd and Mo recruited great but it seems Hoke has taken it to another level...

180 degrees from where it was before Hoke got here, including the later Carr years.  The quality of the kids we're bringing in is just outstanding.  This will really help us return to our defensive glory days where we had excellent linebacking.
