Big Ten Recruiting Rankings: 7-1-12
While the pace of recruiting has slowed for Michigan, the same cannot be said for the rest of the Big Ten, as eight of the 12 conference teams (plus Notre Dame) picked up commits this week. Notre Dame, Ohio State, and Penn State continue to be in a dogfight for second place, while Indiana goes back to being Indiana after briefly remembering they have a football team. Changes since the last rankings:

6-25-12: Michigan State picks up Trey Kilgore and Jay Harris. Wisconsin picks up Sam Raridon. Northwestern picks up Kyle Queiro. Purdue picks up John Strauser.
6-26-12: Notre Dame picks up Danny Mattingly. Ohio State picks up Darron Lee. Illinois picks up Dawuane Smoot.

Bill O'Brien is doing a remarkable job with his first recruiting class, which sits just a notch below the classes of Michigan, Notre Dame, and Ohio State in terms of quality.

The Illini continue to make noise on the recruiting trail, picking up MI S Joshua Jones and OH DE Dawuane Smoot and passing Nebraska in the process. Illinois will need to add some quality to the top of the class to stay at #5, but this is still an impressive haul for Tim Beckman.

After picking up their first commit a couple weeks ago, the Hoosiers go back to doing what they do best: paying attention to basketball.
Not counting Drake Harris for MSU?
Class of 2014
Seems like Chumra and Jay Harris brought down our rankings alot.
But Indiana.... hahahahahahahaha
Something tells me that's not the problem.
Ace, I asked this before, Can you or someone else provide insight to how the rankings are sorted? It's not by average rating or total commits
Multiply Commits by Average and you get a pretty good estimate of how it's calculated.
Kudos to my cousin (Salzwedel) commiting with Minnesota. Funny thing is around 20 years ago I was recruited by Jerry Kill at SVSU.
I have to say that sometimes I/we get so fixated on the last couple of open spots, that we take for granted what an outstanding class this is... talented, and well-rounded in terams of position.
I hadn't realized what a nice OL ND had put together. I don't pretend to know much about MSU or OSU's depth, but it seems like OL is a glaring hole in both of their classes so far...
Is the biggest priority for Ohio State over the next couple of months. Our major targets have already committed elsewhere, but thankfully there is still a year of HS football to be evaluated and 8 months between now and signing day to try and flip whoever.
Passive aggressive looks terrible on you.
Did I just get down voted over a response to a bucks fan who said they (tsio) were going to flip whomever they wanted?
Is that what just happened? I'm disappointed.
Yes, very disappointed indeed.
To be fair, it doesn't say that at all.
Not at ALL?
"to try and flip whoever."
That's sure as fuck what it says alright. Sure seems clear to me what he was implying.
Whomever*. And stop with the "Urban's gonna flip everyone" bit, it makes us all look bad.
That being said, the staff is looking for a tackle, and OGs are unlikely to be taken in this class. Price may switch to OG, but either way the current depth isn't as bad as it seems with the early enrollment from the 2012 class. I predict Kyle Meadows, an in-state guy gets the offer and commits, or else Finley commits, and Meadows never gets his offer.
The problem is, the coaches haven't spread their efforts to Compton yet. Give it a year
Agree with Rational. Also, a couple reports have come out saying Chase Farris has switched to OL from DL. He was highly rated on both in high school and is making a good move in my opinion. I think his chances at starting DL in the next couple years were falling. Not that he was a bad DL, but our DL is and will be stocked with talent for the next few years. Similar to UM's OL. Oh, the battles to come.
Not just an OL, Farris is a tackle, which really bolsters the weak areas. With Mewhort, Norwell, Hall, Linsley, Underwood, Carter, Decker, Boren, Fragel, and now Farris, the depth issue really isn't an issue.
We have more Ohio kids than Ohio.
50% > 36%
It will be interesting to see if Penn State can hold it together this year as talk of possible serious NCAA sanctions starts to pick up.
M, ND, and OSU all have a good shot at top-10 classes
So I am relatively new to following recruiting, but I am an addict now. My question starts with a given. To my understanding, Michigan has 2 spots left in the 2013 class. If someone (like McQuay) wants to enroll early, we can put them in the 2012 class. Is there any scenario that allows for us to get 2 more PLUS early enrolee(s)? Or is there a total scholarship number that is also in play here?
