13. Cornell

Green Bay never sounded so good...

This is a tough regional. I work at Cornell University and have seen Michigan play also. Sophomore goalie Andy Iles could be the X-factor. The kid set the home shut-out streak earlier this year, but then has struggled at times (6-0 loss to Harvard in ECAC Semi's).
My Predictions Michigan wins 4-2 and Ferris wins 3-2.

Oh, and if I didn't have enough reason to root for Union (except against us, obvs)...

2) Miami
3) UMass Lowell

Western win the CCHA tourney, but not get in?
March 18th, 2012 at 12:25 PM ^
They did. They play North Dakota in St. Paul.
March 18th, 2012 at 12:32 PM ^
Looks like the West was being posted as I typed the question.
March 18th, 2012 at 12:26 PM ^
Y'know, on first glance, I think we did pretty well w/our regional: As we know, any 4 can beat a 1 in a single elimination setting, but hopefully we get by Cornell. The 2-3 match-up features a team that has struggled a bit down the stretch (Ferris) and a team (Denver) whose 2nd leading scorer was injured last night and may not be available. No guarantees, to put it mildly, but I feel OK about our chances.
There are no easy regions, but it could've been worse.
March 18th, 2012 at 12:28 PM ^
(1) North Dakota
(4) Western Michigan
(2) Minnesota
(3) Boston University
Edit: Not sure why this took 4 mins to post.. FAIL

Didn't Barry Melrose just pick a final (BC v. Union) that can't happen? Isn't the Frozen Four semis East v. NE and West v. Midwest?
Should be Northeast (BC) vs. West (UND), and East (Union) vs. Midwest (Michigan).
March 18th, 2012 at 12:38 PM ^
how in the hell does that site get picked for the frozen four? is there even a college hockey team south of the mason-dixon line?
they should have a 4-site rotation: ny, chi, minn and maybe st louis.
But two hockey teams south of the Mason-Dixon Line
Alabama Huntsville and Air Force (I think)...but yea, going to be an EMPTY house for the final games.
Technically I think some UAH boosters have proped up UAH hockey for another year or two. It certainly doesn't look good though
Going by Colorado Springs, AFA lies at 38°51'N while the Mason-Dixon line is usually calculated at 39°43′N.
Also, I have a lot of time on my hands today and Wikipedia is interesting.

East Regional: miami will make an early exit again, losing to umass-lowell. umass-lowell will bring their fans on their short trek to Bridgeport. state is making their first NCAA appearance in 6 years (LOL). union is a good team. Michigan lost to them at home back on 11/28, 3-6. That was back when the slump was in full effect though so take it with a grain of salt.
West Regional: LOL! No chance in hell western makes it out of Saint Paul. north dakota was blowing goats back around the same time Michigan was struggling, but they are one of the hottest if not the hottest team in the country right now. They stunned top-seed minnesota in the WCHA Final Five in Saint Paul at the Xcel Center. They also beat denver down last night 4-0 in the WCHA playoff championship game. Very, very interesting regional. Get your popcorn ready, because I know I will. Gonna be some crazy hockey in that one IMO.
Northeast: Honestly, that regional could not be more of a shittier draw for the #1 overall seed. Very similar to what yale got last year. No doubt all of these games will be a home game for boston college. But keep in mind also: yale played their regional at THEIR own arena last year. minnesota-duluth has the potential to go in and knock off the #1 overall seed in their (almost) hometown two years in a row. Very strange.
March 18th, 2012 at 10:16 PM ^
At least this year BC actually deserves the #1 overall seed. We all knew Yale was weak.
UMD has cooled off quite a bit from their world-beating form of mid-season, but they are still extremely talented and capable of putting a strong weekend together. I'm really, really glad we are on the other side of the bracket from those two.
For what it's worth, I'm not buying Lowell.

This will be Michigan's first time EVER playing in Green Bay, Wisconsin. I think Michigan has the best shot of all the 1 seeds at making the Frozen Four.
I am confident that Red will motivate these guys to get to the Frozen Four. One game at a time. What they must do is achieve a Wolverine. A Wolverine has four legs, it takes four wins to be at the top of the mountain. Michigan will, I think, have more of their fans there than any other of the teams in that regional. One game at a time. cornell is first up. They will be tough. There are no easy wins in the NCAA Tournament. NONE.
Seedings mean nothing. Ignore them because the only numbers the team needs to worry about is the scoreboard. They can do it.
I believe in this team and this coaching staff, that they will make a run in this tournament that will be talked about for years.
The road to Tampa and the chase for #10 has begun.

Ah, the terror and blind luck/bad luck of the NCAA hockey tournament. I've learned over the years not to get too excited until we get through the first two games. Not out of pessimism, but out of the reality that is single-elimination hockey.
THIS YEAR Michigan didnt get screwed..a true rarity but looking at all the regionals our path is manageable
Not an awful drive to Green Bay, and with a bunch of friends in Chicago, it'll break the trip in half. After reading thru tripadvisor, it seems like the Bay Motel is a pretty nice price to stay at a very low price. Only 1.5 miles from the Resch Center. Anyone have suggestions of where to eat/go/see other than a tour of Lambeau?
Milwaukee to GB here we come !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 90 min drive,,,,yes
Helpful info for all
lots of bars near the resch
because it is near Lambeau Field
stadium view and The Bar
also for a daaaaaaaaaaaaam good butter burger...go to Kroll's
also if you have time, stop at woodman's grocery store in GB
They got Becco's italian sausage from Iron Mountain - they are the bomb, i love woodman's in GB
Also for bars---check out College Ave. in Appleton ...lots of bars and i Mean alot , that is where you go for drinking after the games. girls galore.
The mall in appleton --fox river mall--pretty nice -- check out scheel's, what a great sports store....
I'd stay in appleton rather then GB , but thats me
then again im staying at my cousins in Appleton....
If your stopping by or rolling thru Milwaukee on the way back, let me know, plenty to do on a sunday in Milwaukee.
any questions for anybody traveling please feel free to contact me at [email protected]
GO BLUE
Idk why you would drive 30 minutes after the game just to go to appleton bars, when Green Bay downtown scene is almost as good....and you must drive pretty fast to make it to gb from milw in 90 minutes lol
Very good draw for the team. Now, we need to re-focus, and let Red wave his March/April magic wand.
I really hope the Brown-Guptill-Wohlberg line gets going again. They've been invisible.
And that's pretty much it
Annoyed that we'll again be playing the late game. Better for TV viewing, of course, but we better not have to go to OT again in the first round.
Oh, and mfan, you are of course correct: it will be East vs. Midwest and NE vs. West. I swear that when I checked the site this morning, they had it as East v. NE and Midwest v. West.
I understand that they have to get people in to watch, but the #1 seed should always play first, IMO.
