Great catch on that play as well as a couple more on that last drive. Still think the Patriots lost that game as opposed to the Giants winning - if Welker held onto that wide-open pass on the pevious drive, NE scores at least a FG and the game is probably over.

If Branch catches the ball on the last drive in the middle of the field, it's off to the races, as well. So sad to see Brady lose because of drops. In '07 it was Meriweather dropping Eli's duck that fell right in his hands, and now his sure-handed guys develop stone-hands.

Never liked Manning due to that draft nonsense and his surly interviews. But if he had to win I'm glad Manningham got the biggest catch of the game. Wanted Brady to pull it out again though. A couple uncharacteristic drops by his receivers and a couple inches on the hail mary let him down but at least he gets to go home to Gisele. One more superbowl vs. a life with her? Sorry Eli, sometimes when you lose, you win.

Saw him winning games before he went mainstream and won a Super Bowl.

Front row in the endzone he mad the catch. Whole play seemed to move in slow motion. Mario gave me one of the happiest moments of my life.

Great finish to that PSU game. Henne to Super Mario!
February 6th, 2012 at 1:00 AM ^
the best game I ever watched.
February 6th, 2012 at 11:22 AM ^
Funny thing is, that was a terrible, terrible game until the fourth quarter, on the part of both teams. It's second to only this year's ND game for most exciting 4th quarter of a Michigan game I've ever seen.
February 5th, 2012 at 10:35 PM ^
Props to Mario. I'm not bummed he didn't mention Michigan we all know he's Blue. He might have just wanted to put on for his city.
February 5th, 2012 at 10:38 PM ^
Props to David Baas as well for earning his first SB ring.
February 5th, 2012 at 10:40 PM ^
Fuck Manningham....tomorrow it will be a great catch and kudos to him, but tonight, as a Pats fan, fuck anyone and anything relating to NY.
February 5th, 2012 at 11:02 PM ^
Suck it! Go Giants! Sucks for Brady and Zoltan but the Giants got your number.
February 6th, 2012 at 12:01 AM ^
GO GIANTS ! Mario Manningham, David Baas - Part of the UM Football Family,
' 2012 Super Bowl 46 Champs '.
February 5th, 2012 at 10:43 PM ^
but i liked better the one from henne to beat penn st. at the buzzer in the back of the endzone his freshman year. now, that was fantastic!

Woodhead had same nice catches as did Hernandez, but I will agree with the posters above: Welker had some unfortunate drops, as well as (i) '12 men on the field' mental miscue on the "would have been fumble" (ii) and the INT by C Blackburn. Can't stand being around NYers who are both Johnny Sunshine fan of NYGiants as well as the asshats who were their NYGiants hats on the subway.
Now its going to be "Brady was great during his early career, but he's slowed down, D wasn't the same as the 01-05 group, etc". It will be interesting to see what happens next year.
I always thought that the Giants could be beat by the Patriots... The Giants needed lucky breaks to beat the 49ers as welll as being a 9-7 team evidenced a mediocre team that was inconsistent and could be beat.
Too bad for Brady, Zoltan, Carson Butler.

Great game Mario. Thanks for your great effort tonight - enjoy being a SB Champion - no one can ever take away that from you kid.
February 5th, 2012 at 11:18 PM ^
Earlier in the game when Manningham misses the catch they're criticizing him and not Manning's throw (neither were perfect, but they put it all on Manningham), then later shared responsibility for the nice catch.

Really lame of Mario Manningham to not acknowledge his alma mater. I'm not going to root for someone who chooses to ignore their michigan roots.
Major props to David Baas for being boss all season long and anchoring one of the best O-lines in football.
Go Blue.

and was the only having a good time with announcing. BFD.
February 5th, 2012 at 11:31 PM ^
So he chose to not say 'Michigan' because why? To me it seems disrespectful please convince me otherwise.
February 6th, 2012 at 3:16 AM ^
so he didn't flatter your ego. baas and brady did. mario has his reasons, whatever they are let him have them.
February 5th, 2012 at 11:53 PM ^
Where is the props to Baas thread?

They never get the glory the QB's & receivers get.

I was really hoping for the Pats to pull it out, but I'm happy for Manningham. That was a ridiculous catch.
Still, I would have liked to see Brady win that 4th ring. Something tells me that he's got at least one more Super Bowl in him.

Screw Manningham. Destroyers of Tom Brady's legend are dead to me.
February 6th, 2012 at 2:28 PM ^
But as the guy who will be at best a footnote in Super Bowl history outside of New York, and instead adding more credit to Eli's legacy while simultaneously taking away the shot for Michigan to have the "best quarterback of all time, and maybe best player ever" to just "one of the better ones to ever play the game or best of his era" hurts. If Mario had at least become the 3rd guy to win an MVP for Michigan (4th overall) then it might have helped Michigan. Hurting the legacy of Michigan's greatest NFL player ever hurts Michigan. Not Manningham's concern, but not something I'm happy about.
February 6th, 2012 at 2:04 AM ^
Great catch, Mario. Nice to see a Michigan WR making one of the best catches in Superbowl history...that highlight will be shown for many years to come.
February 6th, 2012 at 8:16 AM ^
Mario took some bone-crushing hits last night. The Pats may give up yards but they know how to punish receivers. I thought it was a great night for Michigan- Brady, Mario, Zoltan, and even Madonna. This might be a Michigan bias, but that was the Super Bowl best half-time show I can remember.
February 7th, 2012 at 3:30 PM ^
That patched-together offensive line, his first year there, his injuries, and they pulled together to allow those throws to Manningham.
February 6th, 2012 at 10:53 AM ^
I was rooting for Brady. But I'm happy for Manningham even though the introduction was a bummer. When Ty Law and Amani Toomer said their high schools over the years instead of Michigan, I could sort of understand it. They really hated Lloyd Carr for reasons I still don't quite understand. But you always knew they had some beef. I don't think Manningham has any beef. But whatever.
Still love him for 05 Penn State and for destroying Notre Dame's secondary in 06.
February 6th, 2012 at 11:16 AM ^
Great to see UM representing on both teams in the superbowl!
February 6th, 2012 at 11:28 AM ^
As a Pats fan the only silver lining to this game was that it was Super Mario who hauled in that catch. I loved rooting for him as a Wolverine. I don't care if he wants to give his high school props during the player introductions. I know where he played his college ball and I was proud of him last night.
EDIT: I can't figure out how to embed anymore.
February 6th, 2012 at 1:28 PM ^
Why is practically everyone on this board a Pats fan. The only thing good about the Pats is Brady and Zoltan, Other than that, I can't stand them.
February 7th, 2012 at 11:09 PM ^
I rooted for Michigan alums to perform well, and Manningham caught some headlines. Let him enjoy his moment, Michigan snubs and all. Reflected glory is still shiny.
