Burke HUGE 3 to cut the lead to 8 at half
February 5th, 2012 at 1:50 PM ^
HEYO!!!!!
February 5th, 2012 at 1:50 PM ^
We should do that every time.
February 5th, 2012 at 1:50 PM ^
Michigan St. has said, "No matter what happens, Trey Burke is not beating us." We seem to not have many other options. Our only points are off of wide open cuts to the basket or Novak getting open for three. Every time we score, they respond and our defensive effort is not inspiring. Hopefully, they come out stronger in the second half but I'm tired of saying that in every road game. They seem to be adjusting as the game is going on so that's encouraging.
It's just frustrating to watch because I think the talent is there and when the team plays up to potential it's great to watch. For long stretches this season, though, something just seems to not be clicking with some of the guys. We get in long funks where only Burke and Novak want to seem to carry the weight. I think those two guys have played heroically all season.
As I finish typing, Burke proves what a straight baller he is.

Another terrible end of the half shot...but we made it so eh fuck it. We are lucky to be this close hopefully that can spark us.
February 5th, 2012 at 1:50 PM ^
gotta love that dude. even tho that was another manny harris type shot.

It is critical that Hardaway hits his first shot in the second half, that sets the tone for his effort the rest of the half
February 5th, 2012 at 1:51 PM ^
boiling down to near half court shots from Burke?
February 5th, 2012 at 1:51 PM ^
Ok...this is manageable. We played just about as overwhelmed and bad as we possibly could and only down 8. Cue the novak halftime speach

*speech
February 5th, 2012 at 1:51 PM ^
UGLY.
We need to get them in foul trouble, use the agressiveness against them.
February 5th, 2012 at 1:51 PM ^
That was a disgusting half, and we're only down by 8. Gotta lot to look forward to.
February 5th, 2012 at 1:52 PM ^
that Smotz and THJ are much better than they have played this year.
February 5th, 2012 at 1:55 PM ^
He started the year as a double double threat...he was playing well. However, too many fouls and too many turnovers trying to dribble and get got sent to the bench.
He went to the bench and lost his shot and his confidence.
THJ on the other hand, he hasn't played one good meaningful game all year.
February 5th, 2012 at 2:04 PM ^
Smotz plays hard but gets down on himself. In other words I agree with you.
February 5th, 2012 at 2:03 PM ^
imagine that thj, smot and vogrich are the current 4* players on the team. proof positive of what a great coach beilein is.
February 5th, 2012 at 1:52 PM ^
Wel, it's halftime so we can make our adjustments, and we're only down 8 so we can storm back in the 2nd half.
February 5th, 2012 at 1:53 PM ^
I'd like to see Beilein invert the offense and go to THJ in the post first possession. Get him in an iso situation near the basket. Good things will happen.
February 5th, 2012 at 1:57 PM ^
I agree except not on the first possession. When Smotrycz and Mclimans are playing the 5 we should run this because even when we invert we can preserve the spacing since those guys can knock down open threes. It would be tough for teams to react to this, methinks.
February 5th, 2012 at 1:54 PM ^
1. We have to win the first four minutes before the TV timeout.
2. Keep holding our own on the boards.
3. We have to get THJ going. Once one falls, it will start to rain...
4. We must close off the drives.
5. Burke for Treys
February 5th, 2012 at 1:57 PM ^
If we try to run our offense and shoot 3's...they win.
For every 3 we get, they will get 3 turnovers against us.
We MUST take the ball to the basket and get them into foul trouble.
Then 3 things happen:
- They foul
- They give up an easy basket avoiding the foul
- They help down and we kick out for that same 3 pointer
If we just pass the ball around the arc and set screens to try and get 3's. We lose by 15.
February 5th, 2012 at 2:07 PM ^
we are undersized across the board. the times we've drived the basket, we've turned the ball over or got the shot blocked. i agree about driving, but to create open shots, like 3s.

February 5th, 2012 at 1:54 PM ^
but I don't think I've ever been more consistently frustrated with a Michigan athlete than I am with THJ this season. It's hard to fathom how someone with so much talent can play so poorly.
February 5th, 2012 at 1:55 PM ^
Man Hardaway with a goose egg? Come on...
February 5th, 2012 at 1:56 PM ^
THJ needs to be a presense closer to the basket.

That court is disgusting.
The B1G logos look like they're sticker placed over the Big XII logo.
February 5th, 2012 at 2:04 PM ^
Northwestern is worse, it looks like a bunch of fifth graders took purple markers to the place
February 5th, 2012 at 2:04 PM ^
Oversized halfcourt logos are a big trend in college basketball. Our midcourt M is pretty huge as well.
February 5th, 2012 at 1:58 PM ^
Beilein will make adjustments at halftime for the offense. State is playing way to aggressive on everything. Either State switches it up or they get burned in the second half. Now on defense... we gotta man up.
February 5th, 2012 at 1:59 PM ^
This is a little off topic as it applies to the basketball game and I can't start my own MGoBoard post, so here it is....
I drive a cab in East Lansing, so I pick up lots of random drunks, brahs (they REALLY do say "brah" a lot) and hotties with festering STDs, however, last night I picked up a kid who was a back-up punter at MSU from 2008 till this past year. He was a pretty nice guy so I figured I'd ask him something that's been eating away at me for a while. What's the story on Jerel Worthy's Missouri-hating tattoo?? Well, he laughed and asked me if I had seen his Dayton, ohio tattoo. I hadn't. He proceeded to tell me he has an ohio tattoo highlighting Dayton (his hometown) and the location of Dayton on the map tattooed on his body is at least 300 miles away from where Dayton is actually located. His tattoos have apparently been a source of much ridicule in the Michigan State lockerroom as well as on The Blog. He chalked it up to Worthy just being a, "bad tattoo getter."
I thought that was worthy of a post, no pun intended. Most of my encounters leave me more annoyed by the common MSU student every second, but last night was a funny anticdote that had me laughing to myself for the next hour.

After seeing the halftime show: Does anyone else get literally creeped out watching Anthony Davis play basketball? It's like he's not even human; more like some sort of Gumby-alien. I felt the goose bumps on my spine when he went up for a rebound and his gooooomby arms just shot and somehow managed to grip the ball (even though it's like catching a pass with chop sticks)!

Personally, I hate it. I think it's disgusting. Do something with the unibrow bro.
February 5th, 2012 at 2:01 PM ^
Sidenote, I think we should've went with the Blue away uniforms.
February 5th, 2012 at 2:02 PM ^
We're still in it. We've shot horribly, turned it over far more than usual, haven't rebounded and our interior D has been a sieve . . . but it's only an 8-point margin. We can do it. (I've got the lucky Maize Rage shirt on, too. Its winning percentage is outstanding.)

BIG officiating is a joke. Burke gets clobbered and pushed when he drives, no call. Appling hand checks him (barely) and the whistle blows. I know Michigan has no low post game and shoots a lot of threes, but they actually drive a lot and rarely get the benefit of contact. Still, they need to wake up and start matching State's intensity. That Burke three was huge, because we get the ball to start second.
February 5th, 2012 at 2:05 PM ^
THJ is one of two players that can make something happen off the dribble, yet either because he doesn't feel like it or he's being told not to he just sits in the corner and watches the offense play.
February 5th, 2012 at 2:07 PM ^
THJ isn't quick. He's got good size, a decent shot, and can maneuver a little off the dribble, but he isn't as quick as you would think.
February 5th, 2012 at 2:08 PM ^
But his dad is Tim Hardaway...
February 5th, 2012 at 2:06 PM ^
Need a run to start or it ain't happenin.
February 5th, 2012 at 2:08 PM ^
good drive Tim! thats what I like to see.
February 5th, 2012 at 2:08 PM ^
Finally, THJ going to the basket.
February 5th, 2012 at 2:08 PM ^
Okay I know he missed that, but that is what THJ should be doing all day! Start doing it from the opening tip Timmy!
