Mario Cristobal Next Rutgers Coach
Currently in negotiations but most expect it to be a done deal.
I wonder what Muller and other recruits will think of the hire?

Actually, probably a good hire. Whether he has time to rescue the class is another story.

Rutgers had a pretty good class in place, at least by Big East standards.
Cristobal is a very good recruiter, but I wouldn't be surprised to see a few guys leave. Rutgers was in a bind and moved relatively quickly to get someone. Cristobal is young; he could be there for years to come if he is successful.

I now expect Muller to come our way.

good to know

That's not going to help us with Muller. Cristobal is a good coach and an o-line guy from the early-90s Miami (YTM) teams.

Seems like a pretty good hire to me...anyone who can take a "nothing" program like FIU, in a state dominated by other big-time programs, and turn it into a winner has some obvious coaching skills. He has a great chance for success, too, considering it's the Big East.

Wow, this is a strange hire.
I don't think I've ever seen a TV chef hired as a major college football coach.

Mario Cristobal? Sounds like a character in a Harlequin romance novel...or so I've been told.

Great move by Rutgers - Cristobal turned FIU into a legit team after being a laughingstock for years. He knows Florida, can recruit, and is pretty young. I also think that Schiano was kind of nearing the end of the road with the Scarlett Knights, so both sides moved on at the right time.
Do think that some kids will shake free, so who knows about Muller.

Saw his FIU team play Toledo in the 2010 Pizza Pizza Bowl, so that makes me an expert on him. Decent hire. Especially this late.

Maybe Mario can take a look into his Cristobal and see what lies ahead for Chris Muller...
January 30th, 2012 at 5:25 PM ^
to that.

As a Ragin Cajun...happy to see him go.

He took a terrible, terrible team and got it to bowl games. He would be a very good hire, given the awkward timing of search; most teams in analogous situations end up with Derek Dooley or that guy who left Pitt after one year.

His first call should be to Yuri Wright...he's a Miami guy and what Yuri did/said is play play for stuff that goes on at the U. I'm sure he'll give a 2nd chance and bring the kid back home.

His first order of business should be retaing some of the key assistants. That will keep the class together. Rutgers finally put a staff together last year that can recruit that area. Cristobal will have more ties to Florida since he hasn't coached in NJ for a while. After looking at the current RU staff I see 6 out of 12 assistants that are must keepers.

Great hire by Rutgers. Might even be an upgrade in the long term.
Sucks for us though, because now I don't think Muller is going anywhere.
EDIT: Whoops, never mind.

Apparently he's not going to go

Can't imagine that means good things for chances w Muller

Yup, pretty sure Muller isn't happening now that Flood is the HC.
