Diamond Final 2 M and Ark

Submitted by Vote_Crisler_1937 on
I heard from a source I trust that Jordan Diamond has a final 2 of Michigan and Arkansas. According to this source Michigan has maintained a slight lead the whole year but Diamond has been very cautious and will continue to be very cautious because it's a huge decision for him. Sorry if this post is lame but it was news to me that he has a final two.

Some people I know have said the same thing.  Auburn being the third place team here, it's down to us and Arkansas.

He's going blue. He just wanted the whole recruiting experience. You know a little big ten, a little SEC. A little we ant u Jordan, we need you Jordan. And he wanted to get exposure for his Simeon teammates. Once he has milked the last drop, he will be blue, and park himself next to his road grater buddy, Chris Bryant .

He is really high on Arkansas (especially after his last visit) and has always held Michigan in high regard. According to recent developments, Ohio St is out for him (suck it Meyer) and Auburn and Wisconsin, the other two schools he was really considering, well, we have not heard much from him regarding those schools, whereas Michigan and Arkansas continue to be mentioned consistently in a positive light.

will we even need a running back?  Or maybe Shane can just stand there walking behind them as they drive their way to the goal line... like when you get stuck behind the plow trucks?

Either way IMO this is a win, if U-M gets him, great. If not.....we will never play against him so that's fine too.

It's very comforting to know that if these kids all chose to go elsewhere we can still be thrilled about this class and look forward to another potential Top 5 class next year.

I surmise that this information came from what an Arkansas recruit said about Diamond when he talked to him. The recruit basically said that he had the feeling that Diamond was choosing between UM and UA. There was an article on one of the paysites, just yesterday, that suggested he had a top-three.

I know there has been a lot of discussion about Stacey's decommitment and what that means positionally on the line for this class, but I'm curious to know from Magnus or others steeped in football/coaching/scouting the view of the tackle recruits  - anyone a true LT prospect?

Based on what I've read the most likely is Braden - very athletic, moves well, just needs technique help and is coachable but at 6'6" seems to have the size assuming he's also got long arms.  Diamond has the size and arms, but is seen as a RT because of a bit of a lack of athleticism, and maybe the same with Magnuson (or he could move inside).  Of course Kalis, Bars, Garnett (assuming he commits) and Kozan (same) seem ticketed for the interior.

Is your only 'true' tackle, by that I mean he won't be at or discussed for any other line positions. Essentially you want your best lineman playing blindside, which of course changes for Shane Morris. Braden has been talked about almost exclusively as a right tackle (for a right handed qb) however, every lineman in this haul can play guard or tackle. Center is the question mark.

If education is just as important as football as he infers then Michigan is the obvious choice! Ark also seems to be the favorite in landing number one recruit Dorial Green Beckham as well so I can understand his interest in Arkansas as they seem to be the flavor of the month. However I am confident he knows that with Michigan he has the opportunity to be apart of something special with this class and maybe representing something bigger than himself appeals to him just fine.

who've said "Education is extremely important to me" during the recruiting process who have then gone on to decline a Michigan offer in favor of going to schools that are far, far down the list in educational reputation that I don't even pay attention to that line any more. For the most part, I think it's eyewash for all but a tiny number of players. The vast majority of the players we go after, especially the 4- and 5-star guys, have playing in the NFL as their first and second priority, and they'll choose a school where they think they have the best chance of getting prepared for the league.

according to multiple sources. I seriously doubt that Diamond is down to M & Ark if he is visiting Wisconsin this late in the game. This one is going down to the wire

This is a little OT...but does anyone else think we should recruit Diamond's teammate Robert Gregory?

If this were a month ago, I'd say HELL NO. Just because we had so many prospects left.

However, this isn't a "we need a body and we can get to 28" type post. I know very well that you don't take #28 unless he can make an impact.

I think Gregory can, in fact, I first heard of him when Rich Rod was the coach and he was being recruited to Michigan along with Chris Bryant and Jordan Diamond.

All year, since Morris committed, I didn't think QB was a big need, and I still don't. HOWEVER, I think we can recruit Gregory as a QB and give him a legit shot there. If he doesn't pan out, he can play WR...

MORESO, we'll have Denard for another year and likely Devin for 2. Parts of the spread aren't going anywhere (or at least they shouldn't)...I think Gregory would fit a GREAT role of running some of the spread at QB while Morris is the starting QB. Even if it's some read-option and some QB Iso's like Denard. The he can go play WR for the rest of the game.

I love our hybrid Spread/Read-Option/Pro-Style attack, people call it "hybrid" but I think it's a MICHIGAN offense and I don't want to loose all of the versatility. We're hard to prepare for, Gregory would fit great, IMO, in a limited QB/mainly WR role. It would also be a little insurance, allow for the threat of trick plays, etc.

Something like Antonio Bass provided before he was tragically hurt.

I'd have no problem with Garnett, Grant, Reeves, Diamond and GREGORY filling out the class.
