Pipkins awarded 5th star via Rivals?
It appears that Ondre has been upgraded by rivals,

Stats but not rankings for where the players stand, weird.
January 16th, 2012 at 12:54 PM ^
Top 100 being released tomorrow; top 250 on Wednesday.
January 16th, 2012 at 12:34 PM ^
It seems like Mike Farrell has been clamoring about Pipkins for a while and must have gone to work to get him that 5th star. I mean, Pipkins did the real work by winning over Farrell, but I mean in the meetings.
Oh and he's WELL AHEAD of Tommy Schutt.
January 16th, 2012 at 12:45 PM ^
be really about that. And buckeye fans will be really upset about that. I'm not sure who's been following this saga on twitter, but a few lowlife buckeye fans have nothing better to do than to keep telling Ondre that he's "gonna get his 3 star [butt] grilled against THE Ohio State University." I wonder how their MAC level O Line recruits are gonna do against his 5 star "I can keep up with Stefon Diggs in a race" 330 lb force in the middle...
January 16th, 2012 at 12:50 PM ^
Doesn't seem like the smartest thing to do. Ondre seems like the type of guy that would be further motivated by that stuff. If I was a commit with a Twitter account and my future rival's fans were talking shit to me, I'd totally print out those tweets and hang them over my room, in the weight room, wherever, just to motivate myself that much more.
Those Ohio fans are in for a world of hurt.
January 16th, 2012 at 12:53 PM ^
would you expect anything else from a buckeye? They aren't supposed to be smart.
January 16th, 2012 at 12:56 PM ^
Supposedly Brionte Dunn wasn't impressed by the tweets he received from Michigan fans after committing to Urban Meyer.
Nobody has a monopoly on stupid fans.
January 16th, 2012 at 1:18 PM ^
But ohio fans sure as sh*t are trying to claim the "Early 20th century US Steel of stupid fandom" title...

I guess I stated the obvious.

Has anyone seen any rumors about Pipkins and grades? My buddy says on Power Mizzou (rivals premium site) that they swear he won't qualify. However, he thinks it could just be sour grapes since Mizzou didn't get him.
January 16th, 2012 at 12:51 PM ^
But I would think if Hoke and Co. would turn away other highly rated players at the same position they would be pretty damn sure Ondre will make it to campus.
January 16th, 2012 at 12:54 PM ^
Did they BKFinest it?
January 16th, 2012 at 1:39 PM ^
he wasn't staying in MO. No mention of grade problems then.
January 16th, 2012 at 12:55 PM ^
He is one of 3 5* DTs in the updated rankings. Given that he is #14 overall (and the other DTs previous rankings), Pipkins could very well be the top DT in the nation.
January 16th, 2012 at 1:17 PM ^
Eddie Goldman is the #2 overall recruit so I doubt he fell to 15th or lower if he fell at all. But honestly, the top players are all hard to distinguish from one another.
January 16th, 2012 at 1:36 PM ^
Oh ya your right...i was only looking at committed prospects. So he is proably 2-3rd then.
January 16th, 2012 at 12:57 PM ^
Despite OSU's great recruiting run recently, we still have a higher ranked recruiting class than them on all 4 major sites. I love Hoke.
January 16th, 2012 at 1:07 PM ^
All my MSU friends think we're oversigning. I just laugh.
January 16th, 2012 at 2:35 PM ^
Instead of laughing, you should ask them why they think that. Or what their definition is of oversigning. We have 28 spots available, and per Big Ten rules, we're allowed to take 28 as long as at least three EE. Three guys enrolled early, so we're good.
Generally, oversigning refers to teams that sign more guys than they have room for, and then make room between signing day and fall camp. We are not doing that at all, in fact our numbers aren't even taking into account normal off-season attrition.
You should also tell your friend that from 2004-2006, MSU signed 31(!), 27, and 28 recruits, respectively. Then ask him why oversigning is bad, but hypocrisy is A-OK.
Then again, Sparties aren't good with the whole logic thing, so maybe laughing is your best option after all.

Better friends.

Anyone see Ojemudia, AJ Williams, or Wormley getting their 4 stars? Seems like those guys have earned them.
January 16th, 2012 at 1:54 PM ^
I don't see any of those guys having a 4th star on rivals.
5 stars = pipkins and kalis
4 stars = bolden, wilson, RJS, magnuson, bars, strobel, darboh, ross, richardson.
January 16th, 2012 at 2:40 PM ^
Rivals is the odd man out on Wormley. He's got 4* from Scout, 247, and ESPN (247 is real high on him). He's also the second highest listed three star SDE on Rivals. He may get the bump, but I doubt it. Really doesn't matter though, he's got the stars from other sites.
Ojemudia has a lot farther to go, and I don't think he will get it, but he's kinda in the same boat as Wormley, where Rivals is the low end of the appraisals. Interestingly enough, Jamal Lyles, who is a MSU commit and basically Ojemudia without the senior year dominance (same size, strengths, etc), is ranked as a four star, so it isn't like his tweener status would keep him from getting that fourth star.
AJ Williams was recruited as a TE but spent his senior year as a tackle. He's not going anywhere, but he does have a four star from Scout.
In the end, most of the three stars Michigan is bringing in could have been four stars, and often are four stars to another site.

Adolphus Washington. So that makes two 5-star DL for our rivals down south. His comments about not being able to fail even if you try at OSU made me glad we didn't get him anyway. Plus, our D-line coaching trifecta >>> OSU coaches, which will hopefully give us the advantage.

Anyone know if we are still in it with Banner who also got upgraded?
January 16th, 2012 at 1:53 PM ^
With our O-line haul this year, they're going to need those elite D-linemen.
January 16th, 2012 at 1:28 PM ^
I think Banner is going to OK.
January 16th, 2012 at 1:50 PM ^
What are you trying to say?
January 16th, 2012 at 2:02 PM ^
Sorry I meant to say that I think Banner is headed to Oklahoma.
January 16th, 2012 at 4:58 PM ^
He is going BLUE
January 16th, 2012 at 5:32 PM ^
No, he is not. You are thinking Garnett, who may be.
January 16th, 2012 at 2:05 PM ^
who was michigan's highest recruit we ever signed according to rivals? have we gotten higher then #14 in the nation?
January 16th, 2012 at 2:07 PM ^
Wasn't Burgess like top 10? Also Mallett was really up there. I'm too lazy to actually look it up.
January 16th, 2012 at 2:16 PM ^
Burgess was #6 that year and Woodley was #14. Actually that class was pretty sweet, in general.
January 16th, 2012 at 2:20 PM ^
Burgess was #6. Same year, Woodley was #14. Henne was #13. BG was #15.
Those are all the top 20 guys since 2002 (as far as Rivals goes back).
January 16th, 2012 at 2:08 PM ^
Amani Toomer was #1 overall recruit in the nation according to an article in Jan/Feb 2010 ESPN The Magazine. Can anyone link to it?
January 16th, 2012 at 2:31 PM ^
It covers the Insider article you're referring to-
And yes, Amani is one of them.
January 16th, 2012 at 2:16 PM ^
Mallett was #4, that's the highest we've had as far as Rivals goes back.
Other guys who were very high, but I don't know exactly:
Drew Henson and Justin Fargas. Also, I believe Ricky Powers, Tyrone Wheatley and Touchdown Tim were all the top RB in the country the years they came out, which was three consecutive years.
January 16th, 2012 at 6:11 PM ^
who was Michigan's highest recruit we ever signed?
From what I remember from the the perpetual board boner anytime his name was mentioned it had to be Sam McGuffie...
RR would have lost half this boards support if he lost that kid on signing day.
