MBB v. W. Illinois; Open Thread & Stream Link
The Wolverines take their 2-0 record into a game with Western Illinois tonight, tipping off at 8:30 in the newly renovated Crisler Arena. This is Michigan's last warmup before a huge matchup against Memphis in the Maui Invitational on Monday. Kenpom has no respect for WIU, ranking them 332nd among 345 Div 1 basketball programs. The game is streaming on espn3.com but for those who don't qualify for their coverage, here's a link to the action....
EDIT
The non-ESPN stream link is not working tonight. Will update if I find a viable link.
DOUBLE EDIT
Not having any luck finding a link, best I can do for you is provide free audio:

also getting down the court really fast. That should have been an easy transition layup or dunk. Not sure how they got two guys down that fast. They've been rebounding okay, so they're not just totally surrendering the rebound to go on D.

What the hell was with that call on Morgan? Set feet, hands straight up and they call a foul? Horrible call...
November 17th, 2011 at 10:18 PM ^
2nd bad call against Morgan in the last couple minutes. At worst, that should be a no call. If a call, Morgan looked set.

is still the playmaker of this team. Dude's skills are undeniable.

For the announcers to blame M's woes on looking ahead to Memphis in Maui. It's not like Beilein is wearing a Hawaiian shirt and drinking piña coladas on the sidelines. Hmmm...now I want a drink.

You have a bunch of 19 year old kids who are probably going to Hawaii for the first time tomorrow. How focused do you think they can be?

These guys are dropping like flies.

Western Illnois has the art of the emergency cramp down perfectly.
Edit: Nevermind... he might be more hurt than that.

That did not look good, mostly because it looked harmless and he's in so much pain.
November 17th, 2011 at 10:23 PM ^
WTF is this trainer doing. He was looking at the wrong knee this time.

Need more Gatorade for his leg!

was that his first basket, inside a minute? Unfortunately not his best night.
November 17th, 2011 at 10:27 PM ^
He had trouble tonight finishing around the basket. He missed at least two gimmies.

Does anyone else need to vomit?

need to step up their game to compete with Memphis. I'm a bit concerned right now.

Memphis won't play nearly as good defense as WIU. Although we will have to play much better defense.

out rebounded by W-ILL, not good.

go blue beat Memphis!

can blow a four pount win out their rears. Should've been about 10. Should've been 20 if we could shoot free throws.

this is a case of looking ahead.

At least the coaches son who went down was able to walk in the handshake line. It looked like one of those greak injuries that happen with minimal contact.
November 17th, 2011 at 10:32 PM ^
Closer than I would like, but Jordan was perfect from the field (5/5) and from comments on the board, in a game where he had no luck with the refs, this makes me very happy

Yes, I was really having a hard time with Morgan not starting. The guy only takes shots he can make and plays smart basketball. Good to see him keeping at it.
November 17th, 2011 at 10:33 PM ^
Whatever. A win is a win. Tough game to play under the circumstances.
I still think we have a good shot at knocking off Memphis. Go Blue!

gotta swallow their whistles. Nothing but bad calls followed up by worse make up calls. We'll never beat a decent team shooting free throws like that. Horrible game Metrics. Wide open 3s were missed often in the 2nd half. This team hasn't played well in any of their first couple game, including the exhibition. I am expecting a slow start to the season and we'll pick it up once big 10 play starts.

I didn't watch the game but I saw the box score and I'm horrified. Are all the warning signs there?

Couldn't watch the game and I was baffled by the final score. I thought this was supposed to be easy. So the problem was bad calls, terrible free throw shooting, sloppy play?
November 17th, 2011 at 10:47 PM ^
... right on cue
November 17th, 2011 at 10:40 PM ^
...many are playing wi short. They are well coached and should make a real push come conference play. Should only make our rpi much better come selection sunday.
