OT-Detroit Lions fans start Anti-Nickelback petition.

Submitted by maizenblue92 on

Detroit Lions fans are not going sit by and let Nickleback ruin their first good season in quite sometime. They have started a petition to keep them from performing at halftime of the Thanksgiving Day game. You can see it and sign it here

Meh, Nickelback may be pretty generic and unoriginal but they are still better than alot of the other popular music out there day (Katy Perry, Nikki Minaj,  Kesha,  LMFAO,  Bieber, etc.

Good for them. Everyone should start an anti nickelback world. On a more serious note there is no real chance pop evil plays the Ohio game right? I heard that they asked to. That would not be tremendous.

I'm signing the petition for sure.  I don't know how long in advance these decisions are made for halftime shows but they definitely could've done better.  That game against the Packers is going to be amazing.

Come on now, i know people dont like them but really this is really stupid. Not saying im a fan but their a world wide band thats popular a little petition is just going to make us look stupid because it will have 0 effect on the outcome. And i think its safe to say weve all sang along to a litte nickelback in our lives.

I don't like Nickelback, but I guess it doesn't really bother me. Has anyone here actually seen a halftime show that was good? They're all awful, that's the point.

Does anyone watch the halftime show anyway????? Can anyone name the last great halftime show they saw? No you can't, because there is no such thing....Let's just hope the Lions show up and beat those cheese heads!!!

but Nickleback is the worst.  Every single song sounds exactly the same and my son loves them.  When ever he plays one of their songs I sing along with it but my words are "every song sounds the same, every song sounds the same, every song sounds the same, and every song sounds the same"....He gets so mad at me.

Signed, but also sent an e-mail to the organization asking that the Detroit Symphony Orchestra do "An Evening With Pink Floyd" at halftime instead. Classical mixed with "Another Brick In The Wall" and "Welcome To The Machine". I liked the sound of it.

NB wasn't too bad in the late 90s early 00s but they have fallen fast. If you want a Canadian band get Rush!  I heard that some of the slip knot band members are lions fans!

What a bunch of shmucks (not you, the guys who'd start a site for it). Give me a break. Not a fan of the band? Who cares? It's a half time show.

Imagine how these guys feel - they are stuck with their contract, and people are going to treat them like they're invading Detroit.

Silly, silly, rude, typical, closed-minded bullshit. Welcome to Detroit, indeed.

If you don't complain, the idiots that run these kinds of things are going to assume they've succeeded and keep on doing the same stuff. I'm pretty sure if it weren't for significant backlashes from the public, you'd be spending your Saturdays watching Willy the Wolverine lead the team out to the sound of "In the Big House" in a stadium with a god awful halo running around the outside. Those are the things that happen when you just let marketing people tell you what you like. Even if you don't take the effort to turn it into something more than just a halftime show by injecting local flavor (think about Chrysler's 'Made in Detroit' Super Bowl ad...which was just a commercial), the least they could have done was to not pick one of the most hated bands in existence. You'd have to be severely out of the loop to not realize that Nickelback is one of the few music groups in existence where people that aren't fans tend to actively dislike them, rather than just being disinterested.

I'm hardly out of the loop; I'm in the music business. I realize that lots of people don't like their music. I'm not a fan of Nickelback myself. But this isn't some kind of tradition being messed with, it's one band playing one halftime show.

The way music business deals work, they've no doubt advanced a fee to the band, contracts have been signed, a road crew has been hired, sound people have been hired, local dancers and choreographers have been working out routines to a particular song, and a whole show has been planned and built around this band.

Word in the music community spreads fast. You want quality bands at your football games? Then don't alienate that community.

It's not like Radiohead or some other cool band is going to play at a football game anyway.

Who do you hurt if you make a last minute change (which isn't going to happen anyway)? I guarantee that you hurt people here in the Detroit area.

And do you know these musicians? Even famous bands have personal feelings. No one wants to be treated like this. There are people who don't like what you do, no doubt; is this how you'd want to be treated if you were hired to do your thing somewhere?

By the way, the "Made in Detroit" ad music was produced by Jeff Bass...in West Bloomfield. He was Eminem's producer for the 8 Mile music.

when it reaches 25k?

Not a Lions fan, but being from Cleveland I appreciate great rock music....Nickelback, not so much. My mute button will be getting some action from me.

Can we highjack one of those UM email distributions? Get everyone to sign our petition? It seemed pretty successful for getting Jay-Z and Kanye to the OSU halftime.

will be watching it.  While I have no problem with the people who started the petition, or anyone who signs it, I think that their millions of fans will outweigh the thousands of haters.
