OT: What should I be listening to?
Okay, it's still the offseason, and we haven't had one of these in a long time. I'm in a bit of a rut when it comes to new music because my subscriptions to Magnet and Paste ran out.
My most recent purchases are:
Gorillaz - "Plastic Beach"
Nada Surf - "If I Had a Hi-Fi"
Neutral Milk Hotel - "In the Aeroplane Over the Sea"
She and Him - "Volume 2"
Frontier Ruckus - "The Orion Songbook"
What's in your CD player or iPod, and what should I be listening to?
Gorillaz already have a new album out, made on an iPad apparently.
I like the new Cut Copy, Fleet Foxes and Strokes albums.
The new Lonely Island CD - Turtleneck & Chain
It's amazing. Plenty of catchy and hilarious songs, like "No Homo" and "Jack Sparrow"
High quality stuff
Panda Bear - Tomboy
Arcade Fire - The Suburbs
The Decemberists - The King Is Dead
the new decemberists album is awesome. I would also suggest sister hazel, who you may remmeber from the nineties. they have recently become my favorite band.
Scroll to the end:
Sister Hazel has one vote for the good (yours) and one vote for the bad (and that's putting it lightly).
Eh, I'm not making anyone listen to it. Just giving suggestions. There will be people who have arguments with every type of music.
I just found it funny that it was the second time I heard Sister Hazel mentioned today. I haven't heard them anywhere in about 15 years. Weird coincidence, that's all. I agree that music is a very personal taste and to criticize someone for what they like is stupid. No offense intended.
Steel Panther's album "Feel the Steel" is great for having a good time and laughing uncontrollably. It is not meant to be taken seriously
I gotta say thanks. I don't think you meant it like this but your post gave me an idea. I created a new station on Pandora by entering FTW and chose f.t.w. radio. I must say it isn't too bad. The bands they play have a Blind Melon type vibe
Thats funny
But if your into rap/hip-hop, Childish Gambino is pretty legit.
I like him better as Troy in community..
That's just because of your epic bromance.
Discoteca, muñeca, la biblioteca, es en la bigote grande, perro, manteca.
Haha this is kind of creepy...
I like him better as Donald Glover, the stand-up comedian.
Posted 3 of his links below, and he's great. You might also know him as Troy from Community or the black guy in Derrik Comedy.
at the magic stick. Great show. He did half comedy and half childish gambino.
Been listening to him for the last 15 minutes. Thanks.
I really only have rap suggestions, sorry
I listen to everything. Eminem, DMX, Dizzee Rascal, Kanye West, Kid Cudi, and MF Doom have all been in my playlist at various times...
Well then,
Kanye West's new album My Beautiful Dark Fantasy is pretty good if you havent heard it. Some other stuff I've been listening to:
Big Sean (From the D)
Wiz Khalifa (Rolling Papers, Cabin Fever mixtapes)
Tyga (Black Thoughts, Black Thoughts 2)
J. Cole (Best artist I've heard within the last couple years)
Curren$y (Sounds kinda like a mix between Wiz and Big Sean)
Mac Miller (Best white rapper right now on the mixtape circuit right now)
Edit: Hopefully you can find a few gems that you like in there.
LOS. Everything he has put out has been fire. His best song is Fall For Your Type remix. I think both you and Magnus should give him a listen.
here are some songs worth listening to:

this one is off the chain and really shows his talents http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lCK-26Z9Qo0&feature=related

Mac Miller is on fire right now. I say throw some Lupe in there too. His new Lasers cd is solid. I havent heard of 90% of the music being suggested here, so Im going to sit this one out. But you said you like DMX, so really any DMX cd/song should get you through the day or at least make you want to do 1000 push ups. lol
DMX doesn't really make me want to do push-ups. He just makes me want to bark and bathe myself in blood.
Agreed. J. Cole is legit, and I really enjoy me some XV.
I like J. Cole and Mac Miller, although watching Mac Miller rap reminds me of too many smart-ass kids I've known. It would be better if I didn't know what he looked like.
Thanks for the suggestions.
I just saw Mac Miller in concert at a small liberal arts college in Maine called Bowdoin. He performed for only about 1000-2000 people. I honestly don't remember much of it since it was the biggest drinking weekend of the year for the college students, but the next day, I heard it was good.
Im sorry man, but Wiz Khalifa is a turrible rapper. In some songs he sounds like a 90s pop band.
Big Sean is phenomenal. Check out Finally Famous, real solid mixtape.
If you're not turned off by Southern twang in your hip-hop, check out Big K.R.I.T.'s Return of 4Eva, it's one of the better albums I've heard in a long time (reminds me of old Outkast). Also, download Kendrick Lamar's O.verly D.edicated, and The Kendrick Lamar EP if you like that. Also, J. Cole is fantastic, and if you don't have The Warm Up, The Come Up, or Friday Night Lights (not the TV show or movie), get those too.
I've heard good thing about Big K.R.I.T but its not really my style. I've downloaded every mixtape J. Cole has ever made haha. DJ Khaled and Drake just came out with a new song in the last couple days "I'm on One" thats tight, J. Cole's "See it to Believe it" is the new song he just dropped and it is already one of my all time favorite Cole songs. If you haven't heard of Los, he's been doing some big things lately.
I wish I read your comment before posting mine, but LOS has been doing HUGE things. He murdered all of YoungMoney's beats. He may be the best our right now next to J. Cole, I love that guy's flow its so smooth.
I absolutely agree, its all good though I'm glad to see someone else who listens to Los. Not sure why you got downvoted...
If you're looking for some more bizarre and interesting rap I gotta say Tyler the Creator and the rest of Odd Future (also known as Wolf Gang and Odd Future Wolf Gang Kill Them all). Here's a link to Tyler's first single off of his first true album (all the rest of his and OFWGKTA stuff was done by themselves)

Also very NSFW
Love this guy. He is so twisted but so damn talented. The song "earl" by Earl Sweatshirt is pretty awesome...the video is disgusting though http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=78_loMbmKJ8
Loving those guys.
Based on your list, probably not your thing at the moment, but ...
... this is even older than Jasper, but it soothes the savage (Jasper) beast:

You'll have to imagine richer bass sounds.
I would have upvoted that video....purely amazing!!
+1 to you sir. I had no idea what the name of this song is, and as a result I've been looking for this for YEARS. Many Thanks.
my favorite band of all time is "A day to remember" if you haven't heard them, you should
I posted this below before I saw your post, but if you like "A Day to Remember" you might want to try "Bullet for My Valentine", specifically "Tears Don't Fall" and "All These Things I Hate"
