Rodriguez on negative recruiting against UM
In a Thursday interview with Cowherd reported in the Detroit News, Rich Rod states that Jim Tressel did not use negative recruiting against UM. Relevant quote:
"In my experience in three years of recruiting against them we didn't sense that, hey, Ohio State is one of these schools that are on the edge," Rodriguez said. "There were others we thought were doing that."
Cowherd pressed Rodriguez to identify those schools.
"You're putting me on the spot," Rodriguez said, chuckling. "I think some of them are getting looked at right now. So that will come out here pretty soon."

Interesting, maybe he's referring to Oregon or Auburn since the rumors of recruiting violators lately have had to do with those two schools.

He called back in to say that it wasn't a Big Ten School and it wasn't Oregon.

OSU job when JT falls....

i know you are joking when you say that...but don't you think they would go the Dantonio route than the RR route for next head coach?

Dantonio's about 55, and really not that accomplished overall. They could do better.
March 11th, 2011 at 12:56 PM ^
Who?
Not saying they couldn't, but people are out there that would really be a successor
that Urban Meyer will return to Ohio if and when the sweatervest is gone. I presume that would qualify as a better option.
That thought scares the shit out of me!
I second that thought. But it will only make me hate osu that much more! Can't stand The Whiner!
Please Waveman take it back!
If the pressure of coaching at Florida almost killed him, the microscope of the state of Ohio will be much much worse.
I don't know exactly, but I don't think Dantonio would be their first choice. Meyer would probably at least get a phone call.

The guy is a natural fit at tOSU. Unfortunately, he seems to be a pretty damn good coach too.
Did you mean Bo Pelini? Because he is not going to leave Nebraska. Ever.
Being a little closer-by, in Wyoming, maybe you have a better feel for the situation at Nebraska. But, I think he'd leave Nebraska for OSU. Hasn't he had some run-ins with administrators?
But why would he want to leave? It would be a lateral move for him at best. He's building Nebraska into a power, he is getting paid well, and he said multiple times that he wasn't interested in leaving when his name was linked to the Miami opening. Also, taking a job at OSU would be taking a job within the same conference now, which doesn't happen often. I just don't see it happening.
He's from Ohio and played at OSU so it makes some sense.
Maybe like .01% chance. I live in Huskerland and I'd be shocked beyond all belief if Pelini ever left on his own accord.

Iowa.
That's interesting. What about Clemson?
I love Rodriguez. I hope he gets a job somewhere and just wins like crazy. I hope he wins every game except a MNC game against us.
He might be successful if he learned his lessons.
Stop hiring his buddies to coach the D.
Let the D coordinator coach his style defense.
dont have 16 wr's on the roster when you have 0 depth on D
Accept responsibility when things don't go right
Embrace the players on the roster when he takes over,
embrace the new schools traditions.
I believe had he done that here he woudl still be the coach and 3-9 would have never happened. Niether would stretch gate.
I'd say thats pretty much spot on.
I might add he needs to "update" his offense as well though. What worked in 2004 does not continue to succeed without some "tweaks". Especially when its so built on "trickeration" and surprise as his is/was.
Wish RR the best. Guy put up with way more crap than coaches in the past here at UM, and kept himself above the fray for the most part. Will be interesting to see where he winds up - my guess is that he'll dominate there if given enough time.
I wish him well, but I'll frankly be surprised if he ever wins big again. He may have a difficult time getting an established DC to work with him, and it's unclear if he recognizes how much he needs to change and adapt on that side of the ball. His long-term future may be as an OC.
All he needs is to find someone up and coming. A school like Clemson or another BE school is going to be a lot more forgiving of 7-6 than Michigan fans were.
Can we just call him Mr. Pelini? There is only one Bo and it sure as hell isn't Mr. Pelini

OSU peeps; you stand as good a chance @ getting Meyer to be your next head coach as we did with Harbaugh.
Face it he is like Gruden, loves the glitz and glamour of TV and the constant cat calls from college AD's/Presidents.

saw on bucknuts this morning that Bill Kurelic said "he had heard about some negative recruiting up north as one prospect from the state of Michigan the Bucks are pursuing said he has been hearing the OSU staff doesn’t like to play guys from the state of Michigan." Shows a picture of Terry Richardson below...anyone know what this is talking about, dont have an account to read any of their articles?
UM or MSU??
