Deepening the irony of accusing others of being coddled, Findlay, Ohio-native Roethlisberger also famously pouted and wouldn't consider then recent national champion Ohio State as a college destination, all because Roethlisberger was mad that Jim Tressel refused clear the decks for him and had insisted on simultaneously recruiting Justin Zwick to the QB position.
I've always thought Michigan fanbase generally is way too quick to fixate on blaming the refs for a loss, with a tin hat tint to things. But as for today, I buy it; you guys got completely fucking jobbed in East Lansing. Shoulda been OT at a minimum, and even that is generous to MSU.
Legit surprised that Brian led this post with a photo gloating and glorifying Michigan injuring an opposing quarterback so much so that it put him in the hospital. How the moral high-ground mighty have fallen.
Does this at all implicate the strength of Will Johnson's commitment? Was Mo his primary recruiter or a driving force in convincing him to give his verbal?
I just want to be a bit of a dissenting voice here and say that I think your idea of dropping by on a dog walk is a great one and that I encourage you to pursue it and thereafter tweet about, maybe #WillJohnsonMakeTheRightDecision and @UMichFootball while you're at it???
This angers my Woody avatar to the admittedly low Woody threshold of physical violence, begging the question: would the paradoxical force of Woody avatar self-punching another Woody avatar trigger a singularity that would swallow the galaxy entire? Probably, yes.
And me, I'm here to complain that you stole my avatar, and me having predated you at MGoBlog, I demand satisfaction in the form of you changing it to Earle Bruce. Your move.
This is what qualifies as insightful football analysis from Brian at this point: Michigan will never beat OSU again because their transfer QB took online classes exclusively during his first semester on campus (but be sure to ignore the other Big 10 institutions with strong academics that have beaten OSU more than once in the last 17 years).
Day is almost certainly going to fire Bill Davis, current OSU LB coach / former Urban Meyer best man, so that alone will open things up for Washington.
He's not a slight guy; everyone agreed that he was the prototype to run Urban's offense and that he lucked into having him (Urban tried to recruit him to UF, but Braxton stuck with OSU).
Also, it was Tressel that recruited Cardale Jones, not Meyer. Jones greyshirted at Fork Union and arrived during Meyer's first year. Meyer honored the offer to not piss off the faithful and/or disrupt OSU's relationship with Glenville/Ted Ginn Sr. He wouldn't have recruited him.
Excluding Meyer, OSU's recent success is most attributable to Ed Warriner, and Tom Herman, in that order. Herman would be a risky move but would pay off in a huge way down the line. It took Braxton a while to warm up to him and he flourished once he did so. Meyer doesn't call the plays; he listens to Herman's calls, and will bitch at Herman if a play call goes bad. He sometimes overrules him, but rarely.
Eli Apple was a consensus top 50 recruit. Doran Grant is probably classifiable as a star player; he'll shadow Funchess throughout the game, and has been adept at shutting down star WRs when given that freedom. Cam Johnson should be listed as a star; his punts can be game changing and he means a lot to OSU's success.
He was suspended for the first three games, and was due to play in game four (against KSU), but it was announced the day before that game that he would be suspended on an indef basis.
Braxton Miller underwent shoulder surgery in February, and Barrett had the strong majority of first-team reps throughout the spring, and leading into the summer/fall. Further, Barrett's success is due in large part to the supporting cast of five and four star skill players who are coming into their own. Barrett excels in distributing the ball to those playmakers -- but Michigan lacks few, if any, playmakers of a similar caliber, with the exception of Funchess. I also have no clue why UM doesn't seek to utilize Norfleet in more innovative ways; Meyer would be all over getting him involved.
Because expansion almost inevitably diminishes Ohio State and Michigan to the benefit of Iowa/Wisconsin/Penn State and the others with a dreamer's shot at a BSC bid. Michigan and Ohio State built this league. I suppose I understand the politics behind the evolve/expand or die mentality, but the Pyrrhic victory of strengthening the conference through diminishing the rivalry is a bitter pill to swallow.
just pointing out that the most recent victories by MIchigan against a large win differential occurred during the tenture of 2-10-1 Cooper, he the master of the ultimate choke-job. Say what you want about Tressel's uber-conservative coaching philosophy, but the guy understands The Game and gets his players ready for the fight. I don't think you catch this team unawares, and although I see a fiery Michigan team hanging around for a few quarters, the talent discrepancy here will catch up with the teams by the end of the game (as was the case last year).
No, I'm saying if you care about the argument then details matter. It's easy to say HURR HURR HURR OSU GETS !1 BEATDOWN!1!! by pointing to 2007 Florida or 2008 USC, but when you examine the losses--a 3 point loss to a USC team that despite its epic fail in Seattle remains a top 5 team with Taylor Mays and Barkley in the line-up, a 3 point loss to a 2008 Texas team that probably should have played for the national title, and a respectable loss to 2008 PSU that happened because an overeager freshman QB eschewed a first down for a chance at a 60 yard touchdown run and fumbled in the process--you see that OSU is progressing, not regressing.
You are the equivalent of a Buckeye fan that points to the 2008 beatdown of Michigan, 42-7, and says LOL MICHIGEN SUCKS AND CANT HANG WIT BUCKS!1! EVER!!#! when in reality Michigan gave a reasonably good effort in 2007, narrowly lost in 2006, and inexplicably lost in 2005 in a comeback that no one but Troy Smith saw coming.
Not every loss is created equal and careful analysis demands better than lumping them all in together.
...but I think you overreach when you say "only to be smacked down when the big guys from elsewhere roll into town." Smack down is a little much. If you're speaking literally about rolling into Columbus, no top team has manhandled Ohio State in the horseshoe during the entire Tressel era--USC won by 3 in 2009, Texas by 3 in 2005. If you are speaking about the recent string of top team losses, the last three have all been extremely close contests--USC in 2009 (3 points), Texas at the Fiesta Bowl (3 points), and PSU in the Shoe (7 points). Of course, the 2008 USC and Florida games are rightfully termed as smack downs, and the LSU game to a lesser extent.

Friendly advice, DO NOT scroll up on that list of game scores prior to 2021
That is utterly crushing. My condolences.
Harbaugh, also born in Ohio and moved to Michigan, also about to lead his men into a last stand massacre in which they are obliterated.
Good luck!

In some corners of the internet, this means something different than what MGoBlog thinks it means.

OP is the shitposter whom MGoBlog deserves, but not the one it needs right now.
You're comparing him to Godwin, who ended up as #168 overall and #26 WR in the 247 Composite -- are you thinking that Allen rises that high, too?
Oh sure, that's absolutely what you want the next step in the face-saving process to be. But Ohio State had one more than did Michigan in football: https://www.elevenwarriors.com/ohio-state-football/2019/12/110319/pete-werner-jonah-jackson-jordan-fuller-among-ohio-states-38-academic-all-big-ten-honorees. Also, online classes? That probably should be in the toolbox, too.

Ahem....no, you will not.

Except he's shorter, slower, lighter, and a 3 star / #76 rated prospect in Texas versus 5 star / # 3 prospect nationally. But other than that, yeahhh.
is that Ohio State wasn't on the receiving end of any of the MGoBlog top Michigan plays of the decade.
