Change.Org petition to relieve Dave Brandon of his duties

Submitted by GoBlueNorth on

I have started a petition but am not sure how to get this out because change.org goes out via Facebook, Twitter and e-mail contacts.  I am hoping that this link works.  If not, let me know and I will pull it down until I find a fix.  This will allow non-alumni a voice too.  Thanks

There are far more fans of the University of Michigan who are not Alumni and who cannot access that petition.  We buy season tickets, we buy the brand and as such we have as much right to voice our concerns.  I don't want to stop going to games, I don't want the student athletes to feel that we don't support them.  I want us to have a voice.  There is no need for everybody or anybody on this board to sign the petition but we should each have that opportunity.  If the mods feel differently then feel free to take down the OP.  Thanks

Sorry. Fans supporting athletics are nice, but they are not why we're here. Why Brandon matters is because he reflects poorly on the primary (academic) mission of the school. If the non-U fans were mad and signed your petition, but no one within the university or alums cared, this would already be over by now.

It's not that your opinions don't matter, but they are not sufficient.

I'd like to see how full Michigan Stadium would be just restricting it to alums and students.

Answer: it wouldn't be at 100K. The streak wouldn't exist.

I don't think it's wise or reasonable to support the free speech of one group while rejecting that of another. The argument that the main problem is that Brandon reflects poorly on the academic side of the university may be true, but it is one of numerous complaints that people have, all of which deserve to be expressed. It's one's own choice how much value he or she assigns those arguments, but they should not be dismissed out of hand.

After 648 threads in 5 days describing the same exact thing, can we start deleting these now?   Unless . . .  Does anyone have anything they want to say about Dave Brandon or Brady Hoke?

The Mod Sticky right now represents a fraction of what has actually been pulled in the last few days honestly. I like to think that what we've been doing by conceding blocks of threads here and there is basically letting the board do a somewhat controlled burn in the hope that the tide of these threads would slow down. It may take a more concerted effort, I see, so I'll go back through later and see how it can be condensed a little more.

to decide who and what is appropriate arbiter or voice of record on the issues, with mixed results. I know that mgoblog seeks a certain profile, as authority on such matters; but this is undermined when you're declaring an AD search underway on the front page and dumping threads in the sidebar.

A certain degree of arbitrary is perhaps unavoidable--and there are many mitigating circumstances. But this week, when the ed staff was itself carrying the torches, it has often looked quite uneven.

He should've been better prepared, yes, but non-Michigan students and alumni should have their chance to voice their opinion. I was lucky enough to attend Michigan for grad school, but I am a PROUD alumnus of Central Michigan University. That doesn't make me, or any other person who didn't attend Michigan any less of a fan. I understand, however, that the student and alumni petition is far more important (and I've signed it), but that doesn't mean there shouldn't be a petition for non students.

That being said, if you're going to attempt something, do try to be better organized.

Though I did not attended UofM, my brother and uncle did. I chose the path of my grandfather, the Military. Thank you for giving us fans a voice as well. Signed and shared.

Signed and shared on FB.

Thanks for thinking of the fans of this great university. I am not an alumni but I am a donor. We deserve to have a voice as well.

I have grad degrees from UM from back in the Stone Age (74 & 84). No UM ID or password, so I can't sign the "official" petition. This one works for me and, I'm sure, other "old" grads.

Thanks for doing this. As a (non-alum) lifelong Wolverines fan, I am glad that at least SOMEONE thinks that you can be an important voice in this effort even if you didn't attend the school.
