When Michigan announced that

When Michigan announced that the "throw-back" uniforms would be announced under the lights, this is what I thought they had in mind:

Making Deals

It looks like having more basketball games in Chicago v. one football championship game was the dealmaker.

Chicago is better equipped for the larger amount of visitors so it makes "economic" sense to have the basketball tournaments in Chicago.

Nonetheless, I would prefer that the football game rotate through the many possible sites and that no preference be given to indoor over outdoor stadiums.

Here's one set to some very appropriate music

Or Come Chicago on the following Tuesday

Probably bitter about...

Michigan drinking ALL his milk shake...

You can't go wrong with the Sex Pistols

A classic with a new "very fitting" video for the times.

One more historical reference

When I was looking at the post about the Michigan helmets from the Omaha paper, I noticed this image that probably closest matches the throwbacks that have surfaced.

It's not clear when these are from but it's sometime after the helmets went to molded plastic from leather (c. 1937) and before facemasks (c. ???)

The stripes don't look bad here because there not so close together as in the proposed throwback designs. Or it could be that they are longer sleeves that were probably used in a cool fall game day Saturday opposed to the second weekend of September.

Tickets?

How do we get tickets for this?

Do the Alumni have some kind of group special since there's a large alumni concentration in Chicago? Anyone?

I'll let you decide

My Mistake

I guess my whole Indy experience left such a big impression on me that I got confused with the name of the new venue.

I mean no disrespect to the city of Indianapolis, I merely tried to compare it to Detroit's Ford Field (which I believe its capacity is also expandable) and other host of amenities that Detroit has over Indy.

Thanks for the correction.

Disappointed at venue choices

I saw last night that ESPN only had the Hoosier (RCA) Dome or Soldier Filed as choices for the next B1G championship game.

I live in the Chicago area and though I would love the game to be in Soldier Filed, I was disappointed to see that Ford Field was not a choice for covered stadiums.

Ford Field has a larger capacity than the Hoosier Dome (65,000 v. 58,000).  A retractable roof!

There's plenty of hotels in the area and a larger airport hub than Indy.

I've been to both city's and their respective stadiums and I really don't get what all the attraction is to Indy.

Non Biased Approach: The

Non Biased Approach: The Dallas Exception

Ever since I can remember, theDallas Cowboys of the NFL have been in the NFC East, even though their geographic location puts the in the south or perhaps even the west.

For argument sakes, I'll refer to this as the Dallas Scenario. With all the negative feedback (expected or not),

I suggest that the Divisions be named just North and South. The North (IA, MI, MSU, MN, NU, NE) with all schools residing above the 40.4°N. The South (OSU, PSU, IN, PU, IL, WI) with the exception of WI, are all below 40.4°N. WI would then be regarded as the Dallas Exception. The NFL will have set precedence and the geographic location names will be more "accepted" the second time around.

Sparty's car is bleak for sure

I can't believe they can't put together a better product.

The MI car is AWESOME! If it performs close to how it looks, look out!

I love the paint job and the winged cockpit cover.

Good luck in the competition!

Brings back some memories...

I went to a catholic high school that, shall we say leaned heavily towards ND. You know the one; the same one Rudy went to in Joliet, IL.

In that high school everyone was a ND fan, except for me. When ND played MI, everyone in high school got so emotional. It was really obnoxious! To them, ND's biggest rival is Michigan.

I was probably one of the few that opted out of going to school at ND and chose MI instead. So even though I was not raised in MI, going to MI taught me the importance of the rivalries with Ohio, MSU, and every other B10 team that just wanted to beat the best; Michigan of course.

So to those who say that beating or losing to MSU is irrelevant, I offer this: Winning or losing to MSU is relevant! Perhaps a more adequate description is that it is "not as significant". In the grand scheme of things, all wins and loses are relevant. Beating Sparty maybe not as significant as beating ND or ultimately as significant of beating Ohio.

The tide is changing

Can you feel it...

And another thing...

Perhaps since you were a RR supporter, then you neglected the fact that Hoke has managed to depolarize the Michigan family (by most accounts anyway). As you have already exemplified, most skeptics are changing their mind, and he has the public support of previous Michigan players and staff.

I will admit that Harbaugh was my first choice. I thought that he would make the coaching transition quick while reduce/eliminate any current player defections and bring in top recruits in the future; both of which Hoke and Co. have been able to do so far in overwhelming fashion.

I always thought Harbaugh would be risky since he does have those NFL aspirations, but I am content that Hoke will make his stay at Michigan for the long haul, since there's no place he'd rather be.

I am pleased with the direction of the program and also that you and others are changing their mind about Hoke.

Can we get a GIF on a billboard

My first thought was that that billboard was a fake.

Then I thought, with the video capabilities in some billboards, one could make a giff something like this:

Nice work

Great effort; very nice work on this indeed. By "Targets", I am assuming that MI has extended an offer, right?

Engineering Major?!?

That was a complete shocker! I am really impressed with Mario's  attitude about success both on and off the field. 23 ACT is impressive and on the downside of the curve.

I wonder if he will actually major in engineering when he gets to the U, given the location of the engineering school and the time commitment with the football program and all.

Bad for Ohio

The ramifications of this and the Tressel situation will get a lot of press over the next few months. Though some of ohio's recruits may think twice about going to ohio, and maybe even commit to Michigan, what is bad for ohio also reflects on the B1G.

Ohio seams to be making the B1G in par with the SEC and that is disturbing to me.

Enough controversy in current system

In reading the comments of most of the posters, one thin is clear: The current BCS system is not perfect.

So I want to see something that may be better or at least different.

I remember a post from a few years back about a very insightful proposal for an 8-team playoff. In the spirit of fairness, I have been also waiting to see more proposals that may actually make it past the development stage, and even though Mark Cuban's really biased, his "independent" research firm "Radical Football" may offer a modern and somewhat popular scenario to have the best college football teams in the final.

Adidas Got the colors mixed up

Or maybe they just did not want to darken the blue or maybe they were intended for that other school with similar helmet design.

I am glad I am not the only one boycotting the adidas stuff. I have not bought any Michigan gear since 2008 (when they signed with adidas) and do not plan to in the future. I'm just glad that I have a lot of it that should last me until they drop adidas.

Surprising comments

I was surprised at the comments by Joe Bolden. I got the impression that he was very soft spoken and was not one to hold grudges.

No matter; just thought it was odd.

I wonder if Joe B. and these other early commits will take the opportunity to start school early so they can get involved in the program and spring practices/conditioning.

The article also raised some concerns with me about the competition at the linebacker position and the number of early commitments. My concern being that with the rivals article on  linebackers in the 2012 recruiting class and the possibility on these early commits to waffle on their commitment in 9 months or so because of the level of competition and number of recruits for the linebacker position.

Nice Billboard

It'd be something if this was actually off of I-75 down in the Columbus area.

This is really too difficult not to pick-on.

I think it's time to share this one...

What if

If Delany had known then, then all he could have done then is what he can do now; put pressure on the AD and the school administration to the right thing for the B1G. Ultimately, the NCAA has the highest suit in this case, so I don't think the B1G is going to issue sanctions against the school.

It will be interesting how long tOSU brass lets this go. Maybe less now that Delany has commented on the situation.

Highlight of the article until...

"The turmoil resonates beyond Columbus. Running back Bri’onte Dunn of Canton, Ohio, gave a verbal commitment to Ohio State. In a phone interview Wednesday Dunn’s father, Brion, said his son will make other visits. Most notably to Michigan."

I had to take a second look when I came across this part of the article. Then it when on how Dunn was "looking forward on being a buckeye" and "wanting to just be on teams that win".

It was disheartening to see that there are fewer players that just want to come to Michigan to be a part of it all. In my opinion,  going to a school for the wrong reason only sets you up for failure.

Two things are happening

1-Either students are genuinely interested in football again (compared to the last three seasons-not pointing any fingers)

or...

2-Students see a potential cash cow in having the night game against ND, and both the Nebraska and that school in Ohio games at home.

As I recall, students were able to order their tickets around March, way after Hoke took over the program so that may explain the renewed interest in case 1 so I hope that's the case 'cause I hated seeing all the opponents' fans in the student section the past three years.

Not a liar, by today's standards

It is said to think that our society has been so passive about the dishonesty in people.

When politicians such as Nixon or Agnew lied, they had the decency to vacate their posts. Now a days, you can lie about housing markets and the financial volatility of the economy and get appointed to even better positions without even a slap on the wrist.

The point of this is that Tressel is still seen as a man of character, even by those same people that say he should get fired( Herbstreit+Spielman of ESPN). This is what character and honor has been reduced to in our society; the acceptance that most people with honor lack morals and ethics.

In thinking what tOSU administration would do, I have to think about the brand of tOSU. In my mind, and it may seem prejudice, tOSU is all about athletics and their football program is their flagship. In my opinion, I find it difficult to think that tOSU will fire Tressel, after all in spite of his lack of ethics or morals, he will be judged by today's standards.

B1G Lacrosse

I had thought about how long it a hockey B1G conference took to form. I remember that it was not long after PSU announced that they forming a D-1 Varsity team that the B1G announced the formation of a conference. It's sort of like having a "if you come, they will build it" philosophy. My point is that AD's see the potential revenues from a sport like Lacrosse could bring into the stagnant spring sports (no offense to baseball, softball, etc.). If you look at the popularity of the sport at the national level, it could rival revenue resources from other "action-filled" sporting events. So athletic departments with operating budgets in the black AND with both successful men's and women's Lax club programs will be looking at Michigan's example.

I realize that it's difficult to think that in an era when schools are cutting programs, there is an argument for some schools to add programs. I looked at the success of Michigan, MSU, IL, and WI, all club programs in the top 50 of the MCLA and women's top 50 of their respective WCLA. I have to think that along with Michigan, these B1G schools operating athletic dept's. budgets are in the black will look at this closely in the years to come and I would not be surprised if these other B1G schools follow suit.

With two men's and three women's BiG schools already with NCAA Div-1 varsity programs, the addition of the fore mentioned schools to varsity status is very viable and will meet the minimum requirements for the B1G Lax formation.

The comparison to the hockey B1G conference had some relevance in this case, but I think the comparison is apples to oranges since Lax is more national than a regional sport AND there's just as many women's teams as men's; so title IX is not as big issue as with hockey. The B1G and BigTenNetwork has to be evaluating this, just like Brandon with all his business-savvy/branding-approach did.

A Case for B1G Lacrosse

I am new to Lacrosse scene, but I find it interesting when a varsity sport is to be added, and also found it interesting that is spite of already having 2 schools in varsity status and the popularity of Lacrosse by B1G schools (unlike ice hockey), there seems to be a consensus that the B1G will not adopt Lacrosse as part of its representative varsity sports. I've actually seen a big following on ESPN with even the club sports so the B1G can't say there is no market. The more I dug into it the more I found how "diverse" the B1G schools with their Lacrosse teams are in conference participation both at the varsity and the club level.

When Michigan Lacrosse makes the official jump, it's difficult to assume what conference they will play, though it makes sense that B1G should be planning to add Lacrosse and I believe given the success of B1G schools in Div-1 Lacrosse, a conference is the only thing that is stoping B1G schools from making the jump. Maybe the delay in the official announcement is "what conference will Michigan play"?

Besides the mixed feelings

I think everyone that follows Michigan wants him to stay, yet they want him to do well at the next level.

All that is fine, but I think better caveat to that is the priority of playing in the NBA over getting a college degree.

This really makes me appreciate players that have stayed in school in spite of their talents and have set graduating as a priority. In my opinion, players that graduate and have a NCAA championship and then excel in the NBA (Michael Jordan to name one) are ones that college players should aspire to emulate. No offense to Kobe, LeBron, or even Derrick Rose for that matter; all great players, but no matter what they do, they will never compare to MJ. Just my 2 cents.

I wish..

...he would stay. I was really looking forward at a major run into the upcoming B1G season. From what I have seen, he stands a better chance if he stays another year and continues to improve which will reflect on his ability to gain a higher draft pick in 2012.

IMO

Nice video, but it my guess that it's too much propaganda for someone that's not in the program anymore. Maybe someone can update it with the new faces and names...

Respect

I remember that 1990 game with the infamous index card measure for the 1s.t down. I remember hearing all about it in the Chicago news for what seemed to be weeks. Thanks for the history lesson (no sarcasm) and yes, I did mean the first night game for ND v. Michigan at Ann Arbor.

Good game but

I think the ND v. Michigan is also a key NCG. It's a rivalry game of the overall #1 v. #2, it's the first night game for both programs, and MI has won the last meetings and Kelly has not faired well against MI. That's the trifecta.

Is there satire in this reference

I have often wondered the relevance of the polar bear animation and thought maybe there was some satire embedded in it that is above my mind, so I am glad there's someone else out there that fails to see the UAF animation relevance.

Thank you Billy Martin

I guess we have Billy Martin to thank, and not the Yankees Billy Martin.

SlapShot Regatta

A little slap shot regatta won't hurt, at least to help pass the time.

...or lack of

It's difficult to assume that this kind of instructions was not a part of the previous regime, but give the player testimonials in the video clip, it's safe to assume that the instruction was not there or it was pretty much worthless by today's standards. Given that the last season's coaches preached fundamentals as a focus on their plan, it seams like it was the latter and now that the right combination of talent, instruction, and technique is finally here, I could only rejoice at what this program has transformed to.

Thanks for the video, too. Meyer doing the road show, what's up with that!?!

Great Post

This was a great game and though I recognize that MI was the underdog, Melrose could not not get out of NDU's sphincter and give the Michigan team any credit; kept talking about the pace of the game and the many stoppages favoring the Wolverines.

Also, was it strange that most of the sioux players looked like they were thirty sporting full-face  Paul Bunyan beards. Just thought that was odd compare to Hunwick's clean-shavin' baby-face.

Reflect on their rankings

Not playing top-ranked programs will reflect on their rankings, so there's some karma in that, too.

Some Sparty fans sighed relief when they saw their guarantied cross-division rival (no offense Hoosiers), but that means MSU will have to do more than beat IU to convince the polls.

GO BLUE!

Wow

6'6" & 300#'s. That's nice to see size back in the program.

1 year experience; that guy from the "blind side" movie did not have that much experience either and he turned out like a safe bet.

Academics

If Academics is the priority 1 as he stated, then Michigan can relax since those other schools are, well let's just say as remedial. Though it almost sounded that he would have picked osu if they offered.

All Whites

If other teams weren't using these, I kinda like the looks of the all whites that Cam Gordon wears at practice. Very Classy IMO.
