Well, there is a difference between saying "Lauranitis wasn't all that" and "Lauranitis is garbage". He wasn't one of the 5 best LB's in college football, which is the way he was treated. He was perfectly good, and he would have been Michigan's best LB by a long shot last year. I think they'll have a hard time find a replacement that will play to the same level starting next year.

I was at Michigan during Fischer's reign. He knew that Martin was buying Bullock's family airlines tickets (he stopped him on one occassion) but still didn't remove Martin's access to the program. Open your eyes.

1. Oden should not have stayed in school longer. He as drafted 1st over one of the most heralded prospects in history (Durant). He could have improved his stock no more. He wouldn't have been coached better - do you really think Matta is a better coach than Nate McMillan and an NBA staff? Ohio State fans don't even think that.
2. It's too early. He hasn't been a failure for two seasons. He's been extremely foul-prone for one. He missed a year due to injury. And he's not Darko. Darko played nothing but garbage time for 3 years, and had been a BACKUP for a lower division European team. Oden was the best player on the 2nd best team in college basketball. He had a track record of success, Darko didn't. Again: At this point Darko couldn't crack a rotation, Oden averaged 9 points and 7 boards in 21 minutes a game.
3. He had microfracture surgery LAST YEAR. Even the most successful cases, like Amare Stoudemire, take more than a full year to come back from it. Others, like Antonio McDyess, come back but aren't the same player. Others, like Gilbert Arenas, never come back.

Are you kidding me? Do you have any idea how much time those kids dedicate to their sports? As someone who played one, let me tell you: about 6 hours a day in-season and about 3-4 hours a day out of season. That's not including road trips, mandated study hours, and uh, class.
Club sports practice three days a week - the time commitment, while not insubstantial (I'm by no means trying to denigrate their effort, merely pointing out a difference) is not nearly as great.
I think Lacrosse should go Varsity, and I think that, in a few years, it's almost inevitable. But jesus, that last statement was full of ignorance.
