I think another angle with this sitting out is the players potential earnings by being beloved by the fan base. If Chase Winovich comes back to A2 in 5 years and wants to sell some ice to Michigan eskimos we are probably going to buy it.

Just looked up total QBR, too complicated for me to understand, but Speight is coming in at 12th right now and his game against Illinois was number 1 for the week in college football. For comparison sake Jake Rudock ended up 10th with a QBR of 82 and Speight is 12th at 79. So he is close to full season Rudock which seems right and hopefuly on an upward trajectory.

Has anyone asked about the auto bench in a press conference? Its maddening when the drop between players is such a chasm. I am better than Andrew Dakich and I rode the bench in high school.

I think they really miscalculated Russell Bellomy's skill level. You know Denard is gonna get hurt at some point and chances are your going to need the backup to do something and Russell can't do it, so they screwed up. I don't think in their mind they would be moving Devin back to QB next year because you really killed a year of his development, they were expecting Bellomy to be the starter unless Shane Morris came in and was lighting the world on fire. Luckily would we have an awesome defense and as Brian likes to say, BIG TENNNN!
you can't just throw in the towel until 2014. This is Michigan for God sakes! I don't know if Borges realizes this but typically to be a running offense you have to be good at running the ball. We are not good at running the ball, Denard will break one for a big gain occasionly but we don't consistently move people off the line of scrimmage. Maybe when your playmaker goes down and your backup is 0 for 10, you say to yourself, the inside track on the division is on the line and we are gonna lose if we keep doing this, lets see what Devin can do, because we know he can run better which will slow down the all out blitzes and he does have previous B1G experience at QB.
I agree even before Denard went down the offense sucked. We might have been able to get the one touchdown with Denard but that is against a Nebraska defense that gave up 63 pts. to Ohio. I assume Bellomy plays much better in practice because if that is what they are looking at in practice, I don't think Gardner would be a WR. I realize that Denard and Borges style of plays are clashing but at Michigan we should have great coaches and great coaches get the most out of the players they have that is why RR is a good coach but not a great coach because he just runs a system.
No, replacing Floyd with Countess will be an upgrade. After Kovacs, I think Roh will be the hardest to replace just based on lack of depth at the position group and some of the non stat related contributions he makes. His sack today was one of the few bright spots in the game.
I have nothing against the guy, I wanted to give him one more year up until the Gator Bowl. Getting manballed by Mississippi State was the last straw for me. That was probably as embarrassed as I have ever been to be a UofM fan, worse than App State.
The receivers aren't good but, in Roundtree's credit he was robbed of the one catch and Gallon was going to lose 2 yards if caught the one WR screen. Gardner is a good athlete but if he is gonna get hit he won't make the catch. We needed to get the ball back in the hands of Drew " The Threat" Dileo, he always makes the catch.
Can ever annoucer please stop telling us that Denard is one of the toughest players in the country when he is not. Obviously he is our best QB and one of the all time great athlete's to play at UM and we need him to win, but if he was as tough as Vincent Smith, he would have come back in the game. If he comes back in and takes snaps with his left hand and runs every down, we have a better chance in that game.
Currently they have his stats in from last years Notre Dame game and they have Matt Barkley's as throwing 7 TD's instead of 6. They must have relegated Mark May to updating the website. If I wasn't such a homer I would vote for Browning but we need Denard back in the Heisman hunt.
Are we really in a position where we can take teams like Air Force for granted and sit are best players? They had a weaning record last year and we just made Alabama look like the Emmitt Smith led Dallas Cowboys.
I think you might be confusing having players with depth. Shaw and Cox are not good, simple as that. Smith is quick and a good guy to have for the spread. Our offense was best this season when Minor was healthy and he was running over people. I think that is why Hopkins has a great chance to play, because he brings that type of power we need.

I don't think many people care much about a bowl game. We are tired of getting dominated in what used to be the greatest rivalry in sports.

The problem with the Black Jack analogy is you are giving the coaches too much credit when some of these variables are somewhat quantifiable.
1. Denard runs alot, Denard gets BOO BOOS.
2. Hoke said that they have confidence in Russell because he is a good QB. That was a false statement. Russell is not a good QB.
3. Devin Gardner > Russell Bellomy
4. The only good reason to move Devin to WR is if he is an up and upcoming Braylon Edwards. Devin is not Braylon Edwards.
