Smith looked great today, but there's more to playing running back than just taking handoffs (blitz pick-up, protecting the football, receiving, etc). I have more faith in 2 proven seniors to handle all of these things against tougher opponents. Smith will have plenty of opportunities once Minor and Brown graduate.
The game completely changed when Floyd went out. Still, it was great to see Sparty's heart ripped out like that, especially after the wide open miss on the play before. Hopefully this will send Sparty into a season-long tailspin.
While I agree with all the reasoning why an ND win would be better, I just hate them with such great passion. Really can't see myself cheering for either team. I will watch as a disinterested observer and what will be will be. Hey, somebody's gonna lose and that will make me happy.
Can't believe DPS is getting involved. My Mcard has long since liberated, but I've been able to use some friends' cards from grad school.
Also note that the tickets (at least from 2 years ago) say 'valid Student ID' but do not specify UM student ID. I tried arguing this point using my UC Berkeley ID, but to no avail FWIW.
I am thrilled with the idea of having sure-handed Matthews and Warren fielding punts. It will be great to have a return specialist given that none of our shifty slot ninjas have proven capable of locking down the job.
For me, the lasting image of Charles Woodson will always be after we beat Ohio St--with Charles clutching a rose inbetween his teeth, grinning, and nodding up and down. "I make plays, baby"
McGuffie was solid before the injuries and Shaw showed flashes of explosiveness, but last year at this time they were both being built up as the two of the greatest freshmen running backs to come to Michigan in recent history.

I'm not saying Denard won't be great (I hope he is)...I'm just saying we shouldn't get too ahead of ourselves based on what we hear from fall practice. Still a lot of football to be played.
I think we should take all of this fall practice hype with a grain of salt. Remember how hyped up McGuffie and Shaw were last year at this time?
That said, I hope both of our young quarterbacks rock the casbah.
Wash U is a good school and they were actually in my top 3 when choosing where to go for undergrad.
But I think you are missing the point. Can you say they are clearly head and shoulders above schools like Michigan, Cal, and UVA? I frankly wouldn't put them on par with any of those schools.
That was my senior year. In the two games we lost that season (at MSU and Illinois at home), we were ahead when Brady was in the game, lost the lead in the 2-3 quarters when Henson was in, and then Brady was thrown back in the game to try to save it at the end.
To this day, I still contend that if we had played Brady the whole way through--National Championship. Youtube highlights of the 2000 Orange Bowl and watch Brady carve up an Alabama defense that had just destroyed defending champ Florida in the SEC title game.
