Desmond Kevin Howard. The fourth player in the history of football to win both the Heisman and Super Bowl MVP trophies. Some of you also may recall that Howard was signed after a stellar high school career at tailback... where he lasted only three days before Bo moved him to the outside. It's also worth mentioning that when Desmond won the Heisman, he secured a then-unprecedented 85% of all first place votes. There was no controversy here.
I think this shirt pretty much speaks for itself... Certainly it's more of a general Michigan tee than an MGoBlog insider shirt, but I just felt it was about as classic as it can get. I personally, would wear this shirt until it's as grungy as my legendary 1997 Nike UM team tee.
So, time to vote! What do you guys think?

***** Five Stars: Desmond Howard

* One Star: damn buckeye Kirk Herbstreit
As far as yesterday, I think we've learned that when it's finally time for Brian to reveal his plot to diplomatically conquer the world, I am clearly NOT the best choice for ambassador to Spain, Mexico, or large chunks of western Maryland. I think it's fairly clear that "Tacopants for Heisman" was the preferred choice over "No quiero," and I guess the question is whether or not the general public wants to see that as an actual voting choice-- yes or no? I still have yet to reveal my own BTN-practice-inspired-Tacopants design, and there's quite a few more to drop as well. See you tomorrow for another round of-- MGoShirt Alert!
I would definitely buy
or is it co-sign?
For the Michigan semi-"old-schoolers," this one is a nice touch. I'd get it.
Can I make a request? How about silhouette of a Wolverine helmet with dread locks hanging out the back. Or, silhouettes of five Michigan players with dreadlocks. You could then list the names underneath each player:
name it the Dread Line......credit to R_Mahorn 1974. While I thought the name and concept was silly, maybe it's feasible on a T-shirt?
Why is the text on the shirt not 'hello heisman' ? That would be much better.
I like "Strike a pose" more than "Hello Heisman" myself, but that's obviously just an opinion. I think it ["Strike a pose"] is a little bit funnier and a little bit less obvious.
Agreed. "Hello Heisman" would make this incredibly generic. I think this is executes the idea as well as it can be.
I would almost lose the text altogether. The image and the 21 do everything the shirt needs.
I will probably buy any variation of this shirt. This is the first one that's a hands-down winner.
Great work, six-zero. Keep it up.
How is "Hello Heisman" generic? I can't think of a more appropriate tagline--I can still hear Keith Jackson's voice as DH races towards the end zone.
i feel like there is a shirt like this already...
maybe as part of the EA game from a few years back? can't quite remember
"Heisman" was trademarked and therefore likely unavailable for use, much like the Block M.
So do I have a lawsuit coming?
I Agree - "Strike a pose" instantly made me think of that friggin Madonna song.
I quite like this shirt so good job on that.
As for Tacopants, I would like to see a "Tacopants for Heisman" shirt.
My other Tacopants related idea was to show a shot from behind of a pass sailing over Avant's head and then heading for a scale 11 foot outline of a person with "Tacopants" above the number -1.
Wouldn't the number on Tacopants be the square root of -1? He is imaginary after all.
I think this is well done, Six-Zero. The best to this point, and it's not particularly close.
that pose is so recognizable. i love it.
i am afraid fat charlie wont make it to print...
WHAT?!!!!!!! YOU GAVE HIM AN ALL MAIZE JERSEY?!
Seriously though, terrific work. I'd definitely buy this one.
I agree with the others, it is the best one yet---but, that is not the actually pose. See Heisman statue.
It's not the actual Heisman. It IS actually Desmond's pose.
and that's all. I have a similar issue with this as with some of the others-- a bit too much on the shirt. This would be a classic shirt that I would buy immediately if it simply had the figure of Desmond in the middle--no words, nothing else. Everyone knows what that pose is and who it is with the #.
I hasten to add that you are keenly talented and thank you very much for all of the effort. I just think sometime designers are tempted to put too much explanation into their work.
EDIT: in fact, six-zero, is it possible for you to email me that image only? I would make my own shirt with it--simple, classic iconography
First design to warrant a 5-star vote, I love it.
I like this one alot. The first mass appeal shirt in the MGoShirt contest, which I think is a must quality for whatever shirt we end up with.
Best one yet IMO. Good job!!!!!
I would buy this right away.
This one is a win. I still wonder if we could get MGoBlog printed on the back or something, but yes, this one is a win. Big time.
Best one yet, indeed. I might change the font on "strike a pose" but that's a nitpick. Pays homage to one of the all-time famous moments in Michigan, nay, college football history and pisses off Buckeyes in the process. It doesn't get much better than that.
I don't think disliking the font choice is a nitpick. Font choice is very important in design.
I for one agree that the font choice is off. I don't know if Six Zero is referencing the font on the "No Mercy" sign in the locker room or what, but I think this font is cheesy at best.
The font needs more Fuck.Shit.Up. in my opinion, especially given the history being displayed here.
Definitely needs more Fuck.Shit.UP. Or more of that Michigan arrogance. The Broadway font on MS Word is a good choice. Something that doesn't look like it'd be used to advertise the circus.
I find that any fan-made (i.e. "FREE") Star Wars font seems to work well on t-shirts and anything Michigan related.
I used one called "Star Jedi" for the Wolverine-hitting-reply shirt.
"College" font works too.
when in doubt, pick helvetica
The shirt is a hit.
My reply to a reply however, is a miss.
I agree that this is my favorite of the bunch so far. But I am not 100% sold on the font choice. It reminds me of the '70s and therefore makes the shirt a bit anachronistic.
"Strike a pose" has always been a Madonna song to me. She will always be a wolverine and that lives through this shirt.
of these shirts if the suggestion above (below?) were followed to remove the writing. Make Des bigger and centered and you've got yourself some sales.
Plus, I keep hearing Madonna's reverbed voice in my head from Vogue. Stupid voice!
P.S. If it's supposed to be an MGoBlog shirt, can you add some sort of small logo somewhere, like maybe top center on the back?
P.P.S. Thanks for doing these designs.
I like "Strike a Pose" - I think it's clever.
you nailed it, six zero..
suggestion: why not just "Hello Heisman!" instead of "Strike a pose".. seems more fitting to me.
EDIT: my bad, gpsimms have already mentioned this idea earlier. but yeah: hello heisman.
would buy if it said "Hello Heisman"
I'm thinking that maybe using the word "Heisman" would violate some sort of trademark but I'm not familiar with those laws so I'm not really sure.
I agree a font tweak might make it the #1 overall prospect, but regardless it's still a solid 5*.
By far the best one yet, I give it a 5.
I like many like this shirt. It is by far the best one so far. Well done.
That is a pretty awesome shirt
Can't be used. Nothing with anyone's likeness.
