Even if Warde was willing to…

Even if Warde was willing to battle tooth and nail with the NCAA, it wasn't his decision to make. Michigan got exactly the kind of AD they wanted when they hired Warde, or that they deserved, if you prefer.

He knows his role. Stays out of the limelight. Respects the Michigan tradition and takes care of the money. He's never going to put Michigan on the cutting edge of anything new or controversial.  He has none of the most objectionable traits of his predecessor Of course, I don't mean Jim Hackett, who had the job on an interim basis.

OP, don't start the blog…

OP, don't start the blog down this path. Anyone who's gambled enough has similar or worse bad beat stories and I don't think people want to hear mine or others.

Just as an aside, if you feel the need to vent to strangers after suffering a bad beat, be very careful gambling.

Super early 2025 NFL mock by…

Super early 2025 NFL mock by the Athletic highlights:

#3 Mason Graham
#5 Will Johnson
#19 Colston Loveland (3 spots ahead of Shedeur Sanders)

Not only would Suggs be a…

Not only would Suggs be a 6th year player, but he reportedly has two years of eligibility.

Much like Keon Sabb, Waller…

Much like Keon Sabb, Waller was in a real fight for a starting job and may have to wait until 2025 to lock it down. By all accounts, Jyaire Hill had a very strong Spring. An SEC program that can offer him a guaranteed starting spot has a leg up on Michigan, granted Bama more so than Kentucky. That's worth plenty to the typical player with NFL ambitions.

Add in that he's worth more to his new team than he was to Michigan and it stands to reason they would offer him more in NIL too. If Michigan outbids UK and Hill beats out Waller, they are overpaying. Does that cause issues with his teammates? He cashed in before proving himself, why do I have to wait? NIL poses plenty of new problems aside from just funding.

It's like you've never…

It's like you've never watched Mullings play either position. Beyond that, why on Earth would you move a senior who was slated to play a lot to be a deep depth piece at another position?

LB depth is not an issue for 2024. It may be in 2025. Rolder and Hood are going to get the backup LB minutes this year. Maybe Sullivan can force his way in there too.

Good news. This roster is…

Good news. This roster is shaping up nicely. Just one more piece and it will be the most complete roster in quite some time. Perhaps it already is.

Amen! I would never go back…

Amen! I would never go back to the White Sox park. The old RFK was the next worse I've been to.

I like Comerica, Milwaukee and Camden, but Pittsburgh's is my favorite. I need to visit some of the western ballparks.

The writer who based his…

The writer who based his grade on JJ having no 3000 yard passing seasons is obviously in the wrong job.

Please James Franklin, don't…

Please James Franklin, don't pay attention to that NFL quote.

Any player who gets a…

Any player who gets a scholarship as a freshman gets a four year guarantee. At least they do in the Big Ten. But as pointed out below, Jace has already gotten four years.

I read an interview with…

I read an interview with Sherrone where he was asked which DBs impressed him this Spring. His answer was Berry and Hill.

And his position coach is…

And his position coach is the only holdover on the new staff. Seems like a move for more playing time. He's had very little so far for a 4* recruit.

I'm keeping my fingers…

I'm keeping my fingers crossed, but the most dangerous time for Michigan has passed. Just about anyone can go into the portal now. For a few weeks after Harbaugh left, Michigan was the only prominent program whose players were eligible for the portal. That was the time to cash in somewhere else, if they were so inclined.

I don't think it's as simple…

I don't think it's as simple as that.

The Big Ten and SEC would have a big pile of money and TV partners willing to pony up more for the right additional content.

What happens if they start their own postseason basketball, baseball and softball tournaments and invite schools from other conferences? Are those schools all going to decline those lucrative offers because the NCAA wants them to?

The future would be unlikely to see the Big Ten and SEC simply standing on their own against the NCAA. They will invite other conferences or schools to join as affiliate members. They would get to enjoy some of the spoils, without getting the voting power they have now. Other schools will join for the money and in the hope that they will eventually become full members. The Big Ten and SEC get to run things as they see fit, without having to deal with smaller schools outvoting them.

I understand if people didn…

I understand if people didn't follow last season's team closely, but to claim that Tschetter barely played for it is profoundly ignorant. He was 6th in minutes played per game and was very often the 1st player off the bench

Thanks OP. A clarification…

Thanks OP. A clarification about the time controls. The first one is 40 moves in 2 hours and without a time increment after each move. That's familiar territory for those of us who played in the era of anolog clocks, but not for the younger players. It has added some excitement, especially in the dramatic finish of Firouzja-Gukesh.

After move 40, each player gets an additional 30 minutes to finish the game. But they also get 30 seconds added after every move, so the games can run much longer than 5 hours.

A draw today will benefit…

A draw today will benefit Nakamura. He would control his own destiny tomorrow with white against Gukesh, Nepo will finish with black vs Caruana, a tough task. Nakamura would also be favored in tiebreaks which are contested at faster time controls.

He's a descendant of Johnny…

He's a descendant of Johnny Appleseed.

I'm hearing that we have…

I'm hearing that we have commits from the portal, but no one is announcing anything until they are officially admitted. That's a good policy for the program and the players.

Any QB who enters the portal…

Any QB who enters the portal in the Spring is doing so because they aren't QB1 on their current team. Either that, or there was tampering involved and they know where they are headed.

It's weird to claim that being UM QB1 is not attractive when last season's is being mocked as early 1st round draft choice.

TWill will have plenty of…

TWill will have plenty of options. Coaches love to have someone like him to bring in off their bench. He's good enough to start for most teams at a little lower level. I'm curious what he'll choose

The QB least likely to turn…

The QB least likely to turn the ball over is probably Orji, carrying the ball and handing off on a large majority of the snaps.

Didn't the NCAA just try to…

Didn't the NCAA just try to restrict multiple transfers by undergrads? And they were forced to abandon it by various state lawmakers? Maybe I misunderstood what happened, but I don't see how the NCAA can limit transfers any more than with the minimal rules they have now..

I'm guessing that was…

I'm guessing that was speculation based on Harbaugh jumping to the NFL after getting suspended by the NCAA. Even the NCAA won't do something as pointless as suspending after him he's gone. A show cause order could happen, something I'm sure the NFL will be happy to ignore.

I think we would see an…

I think we would see an internal promotion like McPhee if this happened in Fall camp or later. But once Spring practices are over, there should be opportunities to snag a good proven coach. We saw Moore's approach to filling Hart's role and it wasn't to promote Denard like many of us expected.

Coming back when his draft…

Coming back when his draft prospects were good helps make Moore the most obvious choice.

The new defensive coaching…

The new defensive coaching staff has been officially announced.

https://mgoblue.com/news/2024/3/8/football-moore-announces-wolverines-defensive-coaching-staff

A simple question. What…

A simple question. What happens to the NCAA basketball contract if they bar Big Ten and SEC schools from participating? It's a lose lose proposition and CBS will exert a lot of pressure on them.

This is a brilliant move by…

This is a brilliant move by the NCAA .Michigan should be contrite and ban Mark Schliissel  from bowl junkets. Might as well agree that Dave Brandon can no longer help coach the team, a retroactive punishment for Stretchgate.

Warde never said that.

Warde never said that.

We shouldn't forget about…

We shouldn't forget about Davis Warren. He was 2nd on the 2022 depth chart, ahead of a 2023 starter for a ranked team. He should be a contender if he's healthy.

What this setup would…

What this setup would demonstrate is that the equal share of TV revenues is getting even more unfair. Every school in that tier 1 is going to want more $$ much more than they want a tougher schedule.

Change is coming and not just to the Big Ten. The interests of the top programs in the SEC and B1G are aligned more closely than they are with lesser programs in their own conferences. If even the top two conferences want to survive intact after the media deals expire, they are going to have to offer some sort of proportional revenue. Networks are going to quote potential payouts for a super conference.

It seems like Sherrone is…

It seems like Sherrone is getting the staff he wanted. Whether it's because of or despite Warde is anyone's guess.

He saved money on offense by promoting the guys he worked closely with, He's spending it on defense. None of those newly hired assistants will come cheaply. Prying away valued assistants from Wisconsin, Tennessee and the NFL counts as a clear win in my eyes.

I want Hart to stay, but if…

I want Hart to stay, but if he doesn't I wonder if Denard moves over from his current job. Seems like he could be a great recruiter.

The RB from Ole' Miss said…

The RB from Ole' Miss said he was unhappy with his NIL money on the day he entered the portal. I choose to believe that he is one of many examples of OSU outbidding other schools. They're trying their best to buy a title after seeing Michigan win.

I'm sure many Bama fans will…

I'm sure many Bama fans will be furious about this hire rather than meh. With their resources and tradition, they expect to get whoever they want. They have to be looking at OSU's move and wonder what's happening.

The portal may be open, but…

The portal may be open, but they are over a month into the semester and it's too late to enroll almost anywhere else. Transfers in and out will happen after Spring practices when the portal reopens for everyone.

O'Leary is going to the…

O'Leary is going to the Chargers, btw.

We already have 5 coaches on…

We already have 5 coaches on offense and one on special teams. That only leaves room for 4 on defense, including Wink.

It seems we will need to add 1 coach each for DL, LBs, and DBs. Maybe Brown will be asked to help with the secondary.. Wink can help with the DL.

It shows that Sherrone did…

It shows that Sherrone did not prioritize retaining Jim's staff. If that's what he truly valued, Clink and Elston would be co-DCs. Their departures were easy to predict. Obviously, he values having an experienced DC more.

It's not the direction I was hoping Moore would choose, but I hope he is vindicated.

Yes, I thought he was…

Yes, I thought he was ineligible because of grades and transferred to a lower level. Western illinois.

Russell Shaw transferred in,…

Russell Shaw transferred in, not out. He was one of M football's rare JUCOs along with Austin Panter.

To answer the OP, the story I heard at the time was that Ritchie had a conflict with the coaches over his long hair.

Wasn't Hartline just demoted…

Wasn't Hartline just demoted from OC? Reversing course already would a strange move. OSU will surely pay enough to get someone Day wants.

In contrast to what Meyer…

In contrast to what Meyer did at Jacksonville. He took no one with him. I said at the time that the owner and GM should have called Urban in for a meeting, asked where his loyalties lie and be prepared to void his contract.

The Chargers should be happy with Jim.

Of course, OSU brought in A…

Of course, OSU brought in A&M's AD to supervise the spending. I'm afraid OSU's approach is likely to work a lot better than A&M's. They are spreading the money around. Besides incoming freshmen, they are paying transfers and paying players to stay out of the draft. The last part should avoid a lot of the resentment some players felt at A&M while also fielding a team ready to compete immediately.

Minter was coaching safeties…

Minter was coaching safeties too. It sure sounded like Jay's primary responsibility was special teams. If we promote a DC from within, we should be adding LB and S coaches.

This isn't the ideal time…

This isn't the ideal time for Hart to leave. Nearly all OC vacancies have been filled, although Bama has one again.

This isn't based on any intel, but I predict Denard would take over RBs if Hart did leave. He's going to be too good of a recruiter to pass up.

I hate that this true, but…

I hate that this is true, but we are still in the middle of the Stalions mess.

Would Strong like to be the…

Would Strong like to be the new LBs coach? I could go for that, but no way would I like to see him as the DC or co-DC.
