Seth -

Great work on the podcast, as per usual!

Please note that it is Filiaga, not Filianga.  Drives me nuts.

I'm sure this will fall on…

I'm sure this will fall on deaf ears, but the people in that video are SUPREMELY talented.  Like, better than anything you will do in your life, talented.  And 90% of them will never earn enough to make a living.  Anyone who doesn't support the arts, either through viewership or contributions, is stifling the soul of our country.  So, buy a CD, download a song or album, go see a musical (when it is again appropriate to do so), or donate to a cause that supports the arts.  Life without this gift is not worth living.

As long as Rashan gets his labrum right, I'm very pleased with the pick.

If you are looking for…

If you are looking for places by the UC:

- West End is an official Michigan bar that usually draws a decent crowd for games.  1/2 mile due east of the UC on Madison.  They usually have a free shuttle to/from events at the UC, but you might want to check to be sure that will be available for all sessions.

- Kaiser Tiger has a solid beer selection and is known for doing great things with pig meat

- The Ogden is very close with a pretty big (but not necessarily amazing) beer list.

- Billy Goat Tavern is an old school place with famous, but only decent, burgers.

- There are also several taprooms, including the new Goose Island taproom, just NE of the stadium.

If you are just asking about Chicago in general, I wouldn't even know where to begin.

Strange that the higher seed…

Strange that the better seed lost every game in the 2nd round.

It's Not A Tumor

Fun post, but the students/crowd used to yell "it's not a tumor" for Amani Toomer receptions, not Jerame Tuman receptions.

Wait

A post telling people where to watch a game instead of asking where to watch a game? I'm so confused. Where am I?

Silver Lining

If the game doesn't go well tonight, at least we will win the National Championship next year.

Makes Sense

They like small boys at PSU

Woodson with the Packers

Peppers is bigger, but the way they are using him, and the way he excels at so many different positions, reminds me of how Dom Capers used Woodson in Green Bay. He played safety, nickel, corner, OLB-type substance. Blitzed a ton, made instinctual and athletic plays, and made the whole defense better. Both are very rare talents, both mentally and physically.

Prost!

I will be making my fourth Oktoberfest trip this year and have never even thought about trying to watch a Michigan football game while there.  Set the DVR back home and watch it after your trip.  I love Michigan football, but there are way better things to do in Munich than try to figure out how to watch a college football game.

One Reasonable Explanation

Suprised no one has mentioned this yet, but I'm guessing that Manuel did this for one simple reason:  ensure seven home games every year instead of having six in one year and eight the next.  The B1G schedule is already set for 2017-2019.  In odd years, we only get four home conference games (of which MSU and OSU are two).  In even years, we get five home conference games.  If we want to have seven home games per year, we have to schedule all three non-conference games at home in odd years.

That doesn't explain why the '19 game is in October, or why we didn't wait until '19 to start up again so that we would get the first home game, or why they want to punish season ticket holders in even years, but it makes sense from a revenue and budgeting standpoint.

Stripes = adidas

I know there are only two stripes on the shoulders, not three, but I can't imagine that Nike would want us to wear a uni with such prominent stripes.  Especially when we are transitioning from adidas.  They also look terrible.

I agree that there are also too many logos and it is made worse by the fact that they are so close to the numbers.  Is there a rule that the B1G logo needs to be on the chest and not on the sleeve (or back, or bottom of the jersey where it is tucked in)?

More Advice

South Loop:

- A poster above was correct.  He should go to Binny's and become acquainted.  Great selection.  There is a location in the south loop.

- The aquarium, planetarium, Art Museum, and Field Museum are all great, if he is looking to do something other than drink or eat.

- Walk through Grant Park and check out Buckingham Fountain and the Bean.  Definitely a touristy thing to do, but those are iconic landmarks and he should get to know them so he has a place to bring guests when they visit him.

- This is also a great time of year to be near Grant Park.  It seems like there is some kind of free music or festival every night somewhere in Grant Park.

Elsewhere:

There were a lot of great suggestions above.  Local Option and Hopleaf are both outstanding recommendations.  Here are some other personal favorites:

- Pequod's - the best deep dish in the city (followed by Lou Malnati's).

- Twin Anchors - the best ribs in the city

- Second City - go check out a show on the main stage.  I just went for the first time in years and it was fantastic.

- Stanley's Kitchen and Tap - go for brunch.  Bloody Mary bar, cooked-to-order omeletes, fried chicken, and mac and cheese.  Best when followed by a nap.

- XOCO - mexican sandwich place owned by Rick Bayless.  Awesome.

- Sheffield's - great beer garden and the Alumni Association has events there sometimes.

- Wrigley - go Murphy's Bleachers a few hours before the game.  Sit in the bleachers.  I can't stress this enough.  It's a whole different ballgame (pun intended) in the bleachers.  If he doesn't like hot girls and drunk people, maybe box seats are a better option.  Go to Slugger's after the game if you want to see really drunk people in their element.

The options are endless.  Chicago is an amazing place, and even better in the summer.

What's a dwumfour?

For pooping, silly.

Can't Buy Me Love

Cheesy '80s movie with mostly terrible acting, but I love it.  Quality performances by Patrick Dempsey and a young Seth Green, and Cindy Mancini was so hot.  "You shit on my house!!!!"

Scotch

A little Macallan 12 to help ring in the new year. Very tasty.

30-3

30-3

Damn late FG ruins the shutout.

Nice

That was certainly a nice catch, but also a very Pro thro(w).

Hart

I can't wait until we have another back that can make a move like the one Hart dropped in that gif.

Agreed

I was about to post the same thing.  That makes me sad.  Until last year, my only reaction to that play would have been "that was a great hit."  Now, my brain has been conditioned to think that the refs would call targeting on that.

I understand they have to clean up some of the violence, but not all helmet-to-helmet hits are created equal.  The gif above is damn near a form tackle.  There is a difference between using your helmet as a weapon, and making a great tackle where the defenders helmet touches the offensive players helmet.

JUB

JUB's a lucky guy. No one ever yells "down in front" to him at a football game.

Jealous

I have been to Lambeau many times, but I get chills every time I walk into the stadium.

Close Call

I was supposed to be at a meeting in SoHo that morning, but it got moved to White Plains. Came out of the meeting, and everyone in the office was freaking out. Went back to the hotel and watched the coverage with 50+ people in the hotel bar, most of whom lived in Manhattan and were trying to contact friends and family. Very sad.

Ended up getting the last rental car at the airport on Thursday and driving the 12 hours back to Chicago. They played a lot of Lee Greenwood on every station on the radio that day.

Great Event

I was in the Glee Club from 91-95 and went back to Ann Arbor for the 150th reunion weekend. It was an amazing event and it was so much fun to sing with alums from multiple decades whose love for Michigan has never faded.

DB Customs?

Can we talk about the fact that the seller is DB Customs? I guess the split M is ok now that it's not his job to worry about the brand anymore.

Wish I Could Be There

I'll have to raise a glass at the JUB book signing on the 29th in Chicago instead.

Barry

I have a picture with Barry Sanders at Scorekeepers on my graduation night in 1995. I also got to meet Elvis Grbac and Yale Van Dyne in the bleachers at Wrigley in 2007. Great guys. Elvis is a giant.

Match

I think the white pants look solid. All I care about is the stripes on the jerseys and pants matching the helmet. Nothing worse than clashing color schemes.

Options

Quartz is easier to maintain than granite. Butcher block is good for an island, or better yet, part of an island. If you are looking for a unique, country house feel, cement counters are pretty trendy. They put a finish on them and it looks great. If that is a look you like.

Not Appropriate

No matter the validity of anything in the OP, it seems like this is inappropriate for this blog. The whole thing makes me feel kinda dirty.

Only One

1/1/98 Rose Bowl. Flew into Vegas. Drove to LA. Slept in our car in a parking garage in Pasadena on NYE after hitting the bars. Scalped tix to the game. Totally worth it.

Impressive

"He catches the ball naturally, away from his hands." That is a helluva trick.

My List

If it is based on how happy a team's championship would make me, but not necessarily the order of how passionate I am about the team, then:

1. Chicago Cubs

2. Michigan football

3. Michigan basketball

4. Green Bay Packers

5. Chicago Bulls

6. Michigan hockey

7. Chicago Blackhawks

8. USMNT World Cup

9. U.S. Hockey gold medal

10. Any other UM sport winning a national championship

Seconded

If the project ever makes it to Chicago, I'd love to help out. I think you would find a ton of alums that feel the same way.

First Time

I will be celebrating my first Father's Day as a Father today. My boy, Jack, was born in March. Going to the in-laws to hang out by the pool and grill out. Supposed to be 85 and sunny in the Chicago burbs, so it should be a great day. Also, heading to the UP for the 4th to celebrate with my Dad.

Why?

Why would you post on a Michigan blog, only to be a giant douchebag? I hope that someday you will have a happy life that will replace your need to post such vitriol on a random message board. Godspeed, my angry friend.

And...

I have just poured a double Angel's Envy over one large ice cube.

Congrats, Brother

Welcome to the family! This should be the best day of your life, so far. Many great days are still to come. Enjoy the hell out of all of them.

Booze

Angel's Envy. Rocks. Delicious.

Upper Hand Lager

Bell's opened a brewery in Escanaba (my hometown) called Upper Hand Brewery. One of their brews is called Upper Hand Lager. It is delicious. Also great? Escanaba Black Beer.

Awesome

I am so excited about this pick. I haven't bought a Packers jersey in a long time. Might have to change that.

Upper Hand

Having the last of the Upper Hand I picked up in my hometown of Escanaba over Thanksgiving.

Same Here

I thought the same thing, due to my UMMGC days in the early 90s. I've actually had the song in my head several times in the past few weeks while reading the Searchbits about Harbaugh.

Escanaba?

I assume you are from Esky.  When I played there, TC only had one public HS.  Always a tough game.

Nice

That is spectacular.
