This might be one of those rare redundant posts which will never, ever get downvotes on MGoBlog because A) Charles Woodson, B) Against Michigan State and C) To this day, holy shit, that catch....and the man is still doing it in the league right now.

I was about to post the same thing.  That makes me sad.  Until last year, my only reaction to that play would have been "that was a great hit."  Now, my brain has been conditioned to think that the refs would call targeting on that.

I understand they have to clean up some of the violence, but not all helmet-to-helmet hits are created equal.  The gif above is damn near a form tackle.  There is a difference between using your helmet as a weapon, and making a great tackle where the defenders helmet touches the offensive players helmet.

for me it's whether the crown of the helmet makes contact or the face mask. If the face mask makes contact (like the Ross hit) the defender is making a head's up tackle. That's how I was taught, and that shouldn't be flagged. It's when they drop their head and use the top of the helmet where it gets really dangerous and should draw the targeting penalty (and the ejection.)

We hit the jackpot! Crazy experince all around.  We lived in Seattle and I bought a student ticket off of craigslist.  It was the week before our travel and we still hadn't received the tickets.  The student swore up and down that they were sent a few weeks back...two days before we leave our neighbor brings over a small stack of mail.  "I've been meaning to bring this by for about a week...".  Sure enough, the neighbor had them.

It was for our 5th anniversary.  It made my wife, who is from Pennsylvania,  a Wolverine fan for life!

We've been injuring people incidentally with good, fair, healty competition.  Those dirty mf'ers better not hurt any one with their cheap shots and chop blocks.  [knocks on wood]
