How important is money? I think what gets lost in the discussion of whether a high level athlete should go pro or not is the fact that ultimately none of these players will ever have financial stress again unless they manage their money poorly. Quality of life isn't recognizably different due to income and wealth after a certain threshold. What does impact quality of life is where you live and the conditions of your work environment. Going to a shitty team in a shitty city would be more detrimental than making a few million less per season. It could also create a situation where over the course of a career that player's potential isn't fully realized, impacting future earnings. Even if he were to get injured, he will never be short of opportunities to make money and will undoubtedly be able to take care of his family the way he hopes to. The people that go crazy about the extra millions of dollars are hyper focused on wealth because of their own outlook on life and personal financial situations. I don't think those are the values that Harbaugh has instilled in these young men. If I had to guess he will be paying close attention to what specific teams will likely draft him and if the chances of going to a Baltimore, Denver or New England are high, he leaves. If sources are telling him he is likely to end up with a Jacksonville, Cleveland or NY Jets type team, he stays. Just my perspective. Ultimately He seems like a great character guy and deserves a full, happy life. Whatever is the best road towards that we should all support.
An opportunity to make a statement The B1G West is up for grabs. They can't get a good college coach, because right now they're Illinois. If they can grab a respected, if not uburly successful NFL coach who can make them NOT Illinios for a few years they could take a weak division and change perspective somewhat.
20-12 Michigan 20-12 Michigan
We could be looking at an We could be looking at an epic group of stolen recruits in the 2016 class. Quote from Kareem following commitment to Bama: “Michigan’s going through a rebuild,” said Khalid. “They’ll be good in a couple of years, I have no doubt, but Alabama is Alabama—the best team in the country.” I imagine that this was a sticking point for a number of recruits at the high end that expect to contribute immediately for a great team. Now that "Michigan is Michigan" once again, this concern will disappear . It's clear that they're ready to compete now and I expect that this class will close out quite solidly.
I'm seeing a very confident team today. I'm seeing a very confident, physical Michigan team on the field today. Exactly what I was hoping for.
Harbaugh slapping Rudock Harbaugh slapping Rudock around to get him hyped up was phenomenal.
I considered this also. I I considered this also. I feel like someone is playing an angle.
This is very interesting if This is very interesting if true. I unfortunately was not able to watch the game. Did anyone else get the impression No Huddle was being worked on?

Do we know he was called for a charge? It certainly looked like he threw an elbow into LeVert when the ball came loose.
That's not entirely true. While I agree that there have been a number of games in which the team clearly lacks the intensity needed to win against quality opponents, we only need look as far back as the state game for evidence that level of commitment is possible.
Instances of drug related Instances of drug related death from prominent members of the entertainment industry remind me that regardless of circumstance, life presents us all with challenges. It's how we react to and deal with our challenges that ultimately decide our level of happiness. Prayers to his friends and family. The world has lost a great creative mind today.
It wasn't just that he was It wasn't just that he was shutdown. The fire we're used to seeing from him wasn't there today and he seemed lethargic. Not to speculate but there may have been something going on with Stauskas we aren't aware of.
Walton and Irvin continue to Walton and Irvin continue to improve and contribute. We'll face few players the rest of the season as dialed in as Ferrell was today.
While I would love to see While I would love to see Stauskas go off, it's quite refreshing to see that Walton can step up when he needs to.
We're shooting as poorly as We're shooting as poorly as I've seen all season; and we're only down two on the road at IU. Feeling good despite the score.
Irvin The more I see from Irvin, the more I expect him to be our X-Factor come tourney time.
the problem is The problem is, with so little information being given there is no way of knowing what to compare it to. I've found nowhere online that explains what the specific issue was. It's because of this that I wonder whether they may be sandbagging a bit. His demeanor and body language on the bench don't suggest to me that he is in any serious discomfort following the surgery. I think about how much the team will be forced to grow without him and almost think the team would be better because of this fact if and when he does to come back.
I get that However I in no way meant to disrepsect the skill the team has on the court right now. Realistically, in my mind, we need more consistent post play in the event we matchup with a team which excels in that area of the game. Regardless there is certainly plenty to be excited about with this team.
I've looked I've looked a bit online and haven't been able to get any real details on the back problem or the surgery for that matter. I understand that there is a strong chance he doesn't come back; I was just hoping for some additional information.

Thanks for all the input

You guys have helped immensely.  Based on your feedback I've realized that I'd be better off waiting until next season so that my donation will have more of an impact

Need your insight I'm seriously considering buying a pair of season tickets this year for the first time. As I am not an alum and haven't owned season tickets in the past I'll be starting for square one. I'm curious as to what I should expect in terms of seat placement and what not. Any insight whatsoever as to what I should expect year one and moving forward would be much appreciated.
I can't speak for anyone I can't speak for anyone else, but my beef with Borges has been apparent inability to anticipate and/or identify weaknesses in opposing defenses efficiently with regularity against upper tier defenses. There will undoubtably be instances where a blitz will put Denard's inability to block to the forefront, but if Borges is able to diagnose these instances at a respectable rate there will be successful results, likely for big gains because of the space said blitz would open in addition to the occasional sack. Denard's skillset would in some ways limit the offenses playbook, but I find it difficult to believe that there isn't a way to manage the risks involved and get both players on the field in a way that would lead to a positive net result.
Gimme any SEC team I would like to see usin a game where we can really prove something
Living in upstate SC I've Living in upstate SC I've seen plenty of Clemson football this season and I personally find them to be very overrated. They've taken advantage of a weak ACC and OOC slate. By the time it's all said and done they will likely have lost to both ranked opponents on their schedule and will have a victory over GaTech as their signature win. Sure they'be scored a bunch and people like that, but let's not forget they got disrobed by WVU in the orange bowl last year and carry very little national influence. If we're up against Clemson I like our chances. It's UT And Oklahoma I'd be worried about.
What gets me What gets me is that everyone is upset when a post is thread jacked by Devin v Denard comments but these are the same people that wouldn't allow a thread dedicated to the topic to remain on the board for more than 10 minutes. Clearly based on the fact that it's overwhelming any and all football related discussions there is enough disagreement that it warrants being talked about. Perhaps if one of these posts had been given a chance we wouldn't be left with arguments breaking out all over the site.
This sort of thing Is not allowed on MGoBlog. I can tell you that from experience any suggestion that Devin should start regardless of Denard's health will be futile because said comments will be negged into oblivion.
2013 looks promising Our 2013 schedule is much more favorable than this year with an easy OOC slate that includes ND @home. Both ohio and the huskers also come to the big house which should give us the upper hand in both those games as well. That leaves only games at msu and psu being road games of any difficulty. It's way too early obviously, but there is a real chance of running the table next year with Devin at the helm and a more experienced defense leading the way assuming the O-Line is serviceable.
I don't think Massey has I don't think Massey has considered we may start Devin at QB the rest of the way. Those should all be 100% wins.
Your brother is absurdly Your brother is absolutely correct. Plus is rude to call your own brother an idiot. Also typing all these posts on my phone is leading to numerous spelling errors. For that I apologize.
Yeah but how is his blocking? Yeah but how is his blocking?
Denard is a RB, plain and Denard is a RB, plain and simple. He is a liability when he throws the ball. Even if Denard's touches were significantly fewer in a lead RB role he would have much more room to break free for the huge plays. I understand most Michigan fans are sentimental when it comes to Denard but the bottom line is the team will be better if Devin is playing QB going forward. His passing ability demands respect and will not only make our passing game better but will provide better opportunities for the run game also. It's time some of you stop viewing this situation through dilithium colored glasses.
Exactly Perfect argument for Gardner to finish out the season at QB. This in no way need decrease Denard's impact running the ball. After what we've seen from Denard as a QB there is no other responsible decision.
BEAT STAEE

The more viable big targets The more viable big targets we can give Denard the more I think we have a chance at winning that rose bowl we want. Hopefully by the time conference play roles around 2 of those guys can really solidify starting spots and reliability.
Great to hear that they have Great to hear that they have options on the DLine. Being able to move people around depending how we matchup will be valuable, not to mention the versatility will provide emergency backup in multiple spots.

Thank You HAVE YOU EVER HAD SAND IN YOUR VAGINA, MISTER. IT HURTS AND SHOULD NOT BE TAKEN LIGHTLY.

Why a playoff can't come soon enough There will still be debate about the outcomes, but even simply a four team playoff will go much further towards proving which teams and conferences are the best from year to year. If the SEC is able to consistently win titles in the new system there will be far less of a case against their superiority. Personally I think the SEC will fair well in a playoff as long as Saban is at Bama. He is responsible for 3 of their championships alone. His teams have been the only ones IMO worthy of the hype.
I knew DB should've never scheduled this game. I knew DB should've never scheduled this game. /s
The arguments may not be the strongest But the counterpoints aren't either. The argument that the SEC is worthy of a defacto spot in the championship game every year is ridiculous given the fact that there is so little crossover between the major conferences especially on the part of SEC schools. Of course you can say that their wins over the top contenders from other conferences in said championship games is the proof, but that's still only one game per year. The issue is the same as that which most people seem to have with preseason polls. If you assume a team or, in this case, a conference is superior to the others than you have given said conference an advantage in succeeding that season. Let's keep in mind, plenty changes affect college teams each year with athletes and/or coaches leaving annually from successful teams. It's not to say that the SEC isn't good, it's that no conference should be given credit this year for something that one team accomplished 5 years ago.
If Miss State gets harshly punished I'd be annoyed in the same way that I am when I hear of a star pro player being let off the hook while a backup gets crucified all to "make an example". If the NCAA wanted to make an example they should have found a way to do so in the Cam Newton situation. Nothing will change until they come down hard on a program that gets national attention and is right on the edge of what is considered within the universities control. As long as programs are allowed to plead ignorance to what decisions their boosters, players, players parents etc are doing behind closed doors than these things will always take place.
Too bad there are no highlights of him catching the ball Obviously I noticed there was mention of his above average hands and catching ability bu it still would have been nice to see this in the highlight reel. He won't be able to run up the middle on B1G defenses the way he did in many clips, but if he has the hands he could certainly make for a potent weapon running around the edge on check downs as eluded to. It'd be nice if he could replicate the production in the return game also.
I don't think anyone could possibly know But put me in the group of people who is sincerely hoping he plays at WR early and often
Thanks for this. I'd missed Thanks for this. I'd missed it.
As for the rest ND and JL Smith make me laugh. It's impossible for me to take either seriously at this point. I live in SC an I can tell you unequivocally that the gamecocks will always be an SEC also ran. Spurrier is a flaccid wanker and he runs a dirty program. Georgia will choke eventually this season, as will Oklahoma. Auburn's offense will go as far as it's boosters checkbooks will allow and as for Bama, well I'm not sure their bubble will be burst after their opening week loss, but there will be blood in the water an the sharks will be circling.
RR will do much better in Arizona but I don't care to root for h My lack of support doesn't stem from any ill will from hi tenure here, I just never really liked the guy. He always struck me as a bit of a phony who tends to be a bit self absorbed. Not characteristics I can get behind. Having said that I think he'll thrive in the Pac12, albeit at a substantially lower level than at WVU where there were no established power programs. It's safe to expect regular bowl appearances and the occasional overachieving year mixed in every so often. If nothing else I'd be happy to see him play spoiler to USC or Oregon from time to time.
