Hockey pet peeve: "when a teammate tips a puck in on you, which is exactly how my first collegiate goal against happened. Thanks, Copper."

As a lawyer who spends most of his time trying to help poor people with criminal records get apartments and jobs, I have just one word to say to Brian about this post: Bravo.
|4 days 11 hours ago||Heritage||
I graduated from Heritage in 1993; mine was the second class to spend all four years there.
The only other D-1 player Heritage has produced is Stu Schwiegart , who starred for Purdue in the early 2000s and was drafted by the Raiders. Tammy Spatz, who was an elite swimmer at University of Texas and the US National Team, is undoubtedly the best athlete in the school's history. Glad to see Mr. Cole make the right choice.

I also quite vividly remember watching Clarence Thompson make the end zone sack on Purdue's QB in the epic 5-0 game.

I acknowledge your point, but I still say that Ohio State girls are sluttier than UM girls.
|2 weeks 1 day ago||Negative Recruiting||
If I was Urban Meyer and wanted to say negative things about Michigan, I would think I could come up with much better arguments than those in the article. For instance:
-- "At Michigan, the classes are much harder. You are competing with people who want to be doctors and lawyers, not car salesmen and retail managers--so the work you put in to get a B at Ohio State will get you about a C- from that school up north. So if you want to play school, go ahead and sign with Michigan. You want to play football, come to Ohio State."
-- "At Ohio State, we have lots of pretty girls. Not only that, but a good percentage of them are dumb and lacking in self-esteem. That makes it very easy to get laid as a football player. Now that school up north, sure--they have their share of attractive women. Not as many as Ohio State, but some. They probably even have a handful of football groupies. But who are these ladies? Most of them are smart, highly-motivated, high on self-respect. They aren't going to just 'give it up' to some dim-witted meathead because he's got a letter jacket and a Leaders Division ring. So for most of y'all, if you want to get a piece, Columbus is where you need to be."
-- "Now Ann Arbor is what they call a 'walkable town.' Means you don't need a car to get to and from most places you'd want to go. Well, who likes walking? Me, I like driving; more specifically, I like driving free sports cars from the local dealership. So if you want to walk, go put on that winged helmet. If you want to drive, go with the Scarlet & Gray."

Prison? For a long period of time? For possessing a tiny amount of coke? I don't see what that accomplishes.
He already got his coke seized and had to spend a night in jail, plus he'll undoubtedly be suspended from football for a long time and possibly be dismissed from the team altogether. Incarceration would seem to just be a cruel excess.

Okay. But the real question is, how will this affect our standing with key 2015 recruits?

And I am totally cool with that.

Obviously Mathlete has not been introduced to the Rainier Cherry.

That's why I just call them "Tiros de Esquina."

I understand you don't even need an ACL to start at QB for Purdue these days. Can't beat that for opportunity.

Yost, Denard, 2010 offense, 1997 defense, and any schedule other than 2012.

1997 Penn State. Judgment Day.
|9 weeks 3 days ago||Crawford||
If I take off my Michigan glasses for a minute, I would have to admit that M is kind of a questionable choice for Crawford. He is a highly-regarded prospect who could reasonably expect to play as a freshman at most schools--definitely by his sophomore year. But at M, he would need to be irrationally optimistic about his own ability to think he'd displace Peppers from the boundary CB spot. Even if Peppers only stays 3 years, that's still half of Crawford's potential career. Why not go somewhere else and give yourself a realistic chance to play early?
|13 weeks 2 days ago||Peppers||
If his future in the pros is on defense, then I think the coaches ought to play him on D. That said, I'd really prefer to line him up in the offensive backfield and let him have 25 touches per game. Either way, exciting player.

I thought the article was pretty clear: the author posited that an employer cannot lawfully use threats or intimidation to deter employees from voting for a union, and then suggested that Fitzgerald's remarks amounted to threats & intimidation.

Isn't that a chicken-wing foul?

Don't forget Freddy Hunter, one of my all-time favorite Wolverines.

I have degrees from Michigan and Louisville. Needless to say, my Facebook page was at war last spring--and tensions are rising again lately.
|19 weeks 2 days ago||2 seeds||
I think what these statistics mean is that a 2-seed is "due." At least, that's what they would mean if only the concept of being due wasn't a statistical fallacy.
|20 weeks 6 hours ago||Margin of victory||
I would prefer that Michigan win this game by more points. These 1-point wins are very stressful.
|20 weeks 3 days ago||Byes||
The Big Ten format should provide the outright conference champion with one bye for each game the champion won the title by. For instance, if you win the league by one game, you get a first-round bye. Win by two games, and you advance directly to the semifinals. Win by three or more games, go straight to the final.
Then again, this might not work every year. Maybe they should just test it out for 2014 and then decide next year whether to keep it.

Yes -- it was a tip-in at one of the preseason tournaments in Hawaii. Good call.
|22 weeks 2 days ago||Jimmy King @ Iowa 1994||
I don't know that it was technically a "buzzer beater," but I rememeber Jimmy King hitting a 3 on M's final possession to beat Iowa at Carver-Hawkeye in 1994, after M had trailed pretty much the entire game. It was kind of similar to tonight's game in that it seemed throughout that Iowa was destined to win--and then, right at the end, bam!

Under Title VII and, I believe, Title VIII as well, all complaints must be investigated and the investigation must take place within 100 days of receipt -- is the rule the same for Title IX?

I predict that Della Valle will win the game with a shot at the buzzer--into his own basket.
