We are making it crazy hard…

We are making it crazy hard for portal transfers other than grads. Oh no is it Ono?

Watched the team scrimmage…

Watched the team scrimmage and Tarris Reed made most of his foul shots. Looks more natural shooting them also. Swami predicts he make close to 70% this year.

Hey, how did you steal that…

Hey, how did you steal that from my attic?

That Hoke year was his year…

That Hoke year was his year of pooping golden horseshoes, no?

Yep very first world coffee…

Yep very first world coffee problems.

Aeropres is a perfect one…

Interesting how this turned into a great advice column about coffee.

Aeropres is a perfect one cup per.  Heating the water takes 1 minute.  They’re is no plastic garbage. The grounds and and filters are compostable. I even take it along on vacation. You can offer a guest a decaf and still make a pot of high test.

I love the mocapot but it’s a chore and mess to clean up. French press is also messy but great.

I have settled on pour over with fresh burr ground high quality beans roasted within the last two weeks.
By the way, I laughed out loud at the toilet humor. You are lying if you say you didn’t.

Looking for Michigan Hockey…

Looking for Michigan Hockey Tickets at Yost for Notre Dame the end of February. I have a friend who is a UM grad and never went to a hockey game.

This made me so happy. I…

This made me so happy. I watched him eat teams alive here in NW Ohio. Seeing him make the NBA just warms my heart. I am now an OKC fan for the next 10 days.  I hope he sticks.

I rewatched the game…

I rewatched the game. Villanova was sneaky good at dealing with our bigs. The framed the outside of Hunter and Moussa with their arms bent and palms straight out while pressing right up against them giving them no room to turn. Then they slapped/bumped the body below the ribs during shots and then cleverly put their arms straight up just as H and M tried to finish after being knocked off balance below. Lots of legs moving against legs during shots too. Refs just don’t look there as a rule. Hard to shoot even the short ones off balance. It was not why we lost. Missed open threes (typical?) and uncharacteristically missed free throws. No room for any error against that good of a team

I have not posted in the…

I have not posted in the Covid era but this laugh out loud PcP is among the best posts ever and very true to life. One of the all time great posts on the blog.

Is anyone tracking/saving all time favorites? I think I will discuss funding an award with the blog team called the “Bloggity” for the best posts involving packing peanuts and baby explosions. I am still wiping away the tears and my ribs hurt from laughing. Even my wife who cares not one bit about football laughed.

This has been a great team…

This has been a great team effort all year. Our only loss was when Brooks was out at Minnesota.  Could one argue that he is the most essential?

Intensity personified.

Sure the elbow to Smith’s…

Sure the elbow to Smith’s chin was just part of “normal play” per the officials. I agree. It certainly is for that rat’s patoot Davison. Dirty play is his normal for sure.

Davis and Nunez both looked…

Davis and Nunez both looked lost out there at the end of the first half. while we pissed away a 10 point lead.  Not sure why Nunez is getting into games as he has been lost on both offense and defense every time he gets on the floor and has not been the sharpshooter he is supposed to be.  It did not help that we had 19 fouls called on us to their 7.This made our defenders tenative.  All 5 starters had 3 or more fouls.

I always mute the TV when Vitale is on and about 70% of the time when others are doing a game.  I do not know how some of these announcers get their jobs as they jibber jabber about nothing or make obvious comments or are often wrong but never in doubt about what is going on in the game. Much more enjoyable with the sound off.

Not so sure about moving…

Not so sure about moving everybody over.  You could run in the direction of the linemen and they would be able to create a wall to the endzone on that side to protect McCaffery.  Oops Jordan beat me to it.

Did Indiana err by not…

Did Indiana err by not bringing another defensive back over?  They have 2 to cover one receiver who is a kicker on the left.  Should they just leave one DB to cover him and bring the other one over to help on the right?

I had to read all 12,000 to figure out that it is you that is having my dreams! If I can just restart my time machine and get back to where I can make you stop having my dreams then I will finally cease strangling Vern Lundquist with my Jedi powers that I borrowed from you just because you dreamed this whole damn mess up. Do not look behind you.

Oops, you are correct.  My…

Oops, you are correct.  My most common typing mistake is to flip letters.

He was just named D IV…

He was just named D IV player of the year in NW Ohio.  Agree he is much more interesting with more skilled players around him than he has at his small school.  The one game I saw came against the best competition in his conference this year (a DIII team) and I posted about in my diary about him a few weeks ago.  They just double teamed him some coming up the court so he had to give up the ball then face guarded him otherwise the rest of the night to keep him from m getting the ball back and limited him to about a dozen points.  He averaged around 25 per game this season I believe. .  .

The other danger I have…

The other danger I have experienced going straight up as a defender is the deliberate knee to the groin to initiate contact and make space to shoot as opposed to the elbow to the face.  A very (voice goes up an octave) unpleasant experience!

I agree.  He is getting a great college prep education at MVCD. He must be a pretty good student to handle the academics and play sports there.  It is a challenging place academically.

His team was much less…

His team was much less athletic and suffered multiple drives to the hoop that left defenders in the dust. Zeb's rep was built on AAU ball not on his high school play.

Prior to the game Wright was…

Prior to the game Wright was not that optimistic about his team.  ESPN points out he has never needed to rebuild and after losing his four top players to the NBA, that might be Nova’s fate this year.  He says he was not surprised at this loss in his post game comments. If we can play this kind of D against UNC and prevail then we are in for a ride.

Toledo and Blue

I have lived here for over 40 years. There are lots of great UM fans here and of course the OSU fans are the same everywhere.  Need I say more.

I agree with dUMchick77 that the Metroparks are great with two new ones just up and going one onthe river downtown and another in the Marshes east of twon which are getting international attendtion from the birders for the species they see every May and October during migration as the birds rest up there before taking on Lake Erie. There are a variety of rare environmental layers in Nw Ohio that are unique such as the Oak Openings park that is only and hour south of A2. The metroparks levy always passes and they do great things with our tax dollars.

The Zoo is rated one of the best of its size in the counntry and well worth the trip to Toledo if you have kids.  Hippos and Polar bears and Gorillas and Orangs right next to you through glass.

The Art Museum is great and most beautiful buildings for 200 miles around. The glass art has its own glass builing situated in a park across the street from the Greek style main Museum building.  Well wortth the trip and admission is free due to the Libbey family and others.

Mud Hens and Wallets are as good as minor leage experience gets and there are some of the best high schools in Ohio and the country in Ottawa Hills and Sylvania. You can buy a mansion in Ottawa Hills for what it costs for a normal house in Byrnes Park area.  Downtown is now a much more active and interesting place lately with businesses moving back, lots of good restaurants and bars and brew pubs popping up and the music scene and art scene are there and very much alive and growing.  It is a fairly very progressive city with a good activist crowd around environmental issues. The health care is pretty good and very rarely do I need to send cases up to A2,Detroit or Cleveland.  It is still a city with poverty and crime in some areas and the diffence between the rich and poor is palpable,

All that said what I like best about being here is that A2 is only 50 minutes away and I can have it all.

Miles and MAAR

Great read and great to listen to Miles at the same time.  Thanks Ace and a very special thanks to MAAR.  When he made that basket over Bamba I backed up and watched it about 5 times in slow mo.  Some one needs to do the physics analysis on that one. Impossible but there it is. We should all try to do more imbedded music that fits to read along with our posts.

Not what I said

"On the other hand we couldn't hit an open three and that was probably our doom not the refs." This is what I said and I warned you that it was a rant.  You did not have to read it.  The Brunson story is true as my son posted to confirm.  Every word above can be confirmed by watching the game on replay.  I wrote it mostly as therapy for my frustration. This team far exceeded all expectations and I really wanted them to be champions out of appreciation for a great season.

2 years ago I posted this about Zavier

Subject -I will finally be glad to root for this guy

post- He and his Lima Senior team beat my home town team in the playoffs (Lorain,Ohio) and my adopted hometown teams multiple times (St. Francis, St. John's, Whitmer and Toledo Central Catholic, and Clay) he had a total of 13 wins against these teams this year. He is the real deal. He can score but he is unselfish. From the point, he makes everyone on the floor better (italics added). I do not think he will cut into Walton's PT much.  He will cut out Dakich if either Rak or Walton get into foul trouble or need a break or if we need to match up small.

Yes I am very glad to finally be able to root for this guy.

Yep Bending the old knees helps

I see the same problem with Simpson at the line. He needs to deliberately bend his knees a couple time before he shoots and the extra push he will get on the ball will keep him from bricking on the front of the rim on the first free throw and then overcompensating on the next by shooting harder with his arms.  I am 68 years old and still play ball and shoot 80% from the line in my over 35 league.  Both these guys need to deliberately bend their knees a couple times before they shoot.  They couldn't do worse.

So far this year

we have the fewest free throw attempts in BIg play and the second lowest % made.

Under Beilein, we do not play well when the refs let people hack, grab and play D with hands on.  We do not seem to guage the permissiveness of the refs very well or adjust to what they are allowing very well in these kinds of games.

My personal experience re raccoons

They are high functioning varmints. (I also just learned from spell check that there is an "n" in the word "varmints". Never too old to learn something while goofing off cruising MgoBlog.)  .

But what about his most controversial subject?

Thin crust or thick?

Ashamed of my ignorance-

I looked up Father Richard.  Wow.  He truly was the first Michigan Man. I would suggest others read his biography here to appreciate this part of our Heritage- Allez Bleu!

http://blogs.detroitnews.com/history/1997/07/19/father-gabriel-richard-…

The man can follow blocks

on the screen passes and made some excellents cuts off of them on his senior tape.  I did not see much "pile driver" stuff myself  If he can block the blirtzers, he will see the field.  I might add that having a young man with a great work ethic and a great personality will make a difference in team chemistry by setting a great example.  They will play hard for each other as much as they play hard for themselves.

It's all your fault, it's all your fault ,

that I can't wait for part deux.

Plus ca change plus la meme chose

Great exucution has always been the key to success in football. If everyone excutes their assignment the way any offensive play is is drawn up then every play would go for a touchdown.

My first encounter with the word gesamtkuntswerk- Thanks!

It is not every day that a 67 year old with three degrees and 40 years of practice and teaching learns a new word.  This is very creative thinking that is not surprising coming from a music major.

I certainly see the connection between music as a performing art and sports as a performing art.  Those athletes that might want to be in sports management/business adminstration, coaching/teaching, sports journalism/creative writing, sports training/medicine or even public health in the areas of exercise as part of a healthy lifestyle or safety and injury prevention could seek a major in Sportsology with cross training in one or more of the above mentioned allied fields.

U of M loves interdepartmental work as a rule and I would not be surprised if some faculty in those other areas would want to get together to create an interdisciplinary major out of sports related aspects of these different fields.  Such a major could be unique and might event be attractive to recruits in many different sports.
