My Undergrad at Michigan was 2007-2011. Without Denard for two years it would've easily been the most disastrous 4 years of Michigan football of all time.
Not only did Denard put the team on his back, he high fived students on his way to class in the diag, showed up to other sports games, always had a smile on his face despite certain people in the fan base demanding more, and shattered every offensive record imaginable.
I am firmly on the side of, "what if he had a consistently reliable defense." Those who are minimalizing his accomplishments are trash.
His games against ND and his final OSU game belong in the friggin Smithsonian.
Michigan Football Classic: Capital One Bowl: Michigan vs. Florida
Man what could've been that season if we played all year like we did in that bowl game. This was my Freshman year, and I'll never forget the ups and downs of that season. Losing to App St and Oregon, beating Sparty in EL, and somehow beating Tebow and Meyer to close out the year.
My buddy is a huge KU basketball fan and openly acknowledges Bill Self uses bagmen and has no moral reservations about it. Basically the sentiment from fans of these schools is:
1. These kids should be paid
2. If "we" don't pay them someone else is going to anyway
3. We (insert school you root for) are still the best institution for said athlete and that's what sets us apart from the rest in recruiting. Not how much $$$ we toss.
Personally I agree the kids should be paid. I don't want Michigan to jump in the swamp with the rest and do this behind closed doors but I thought we missed on a huge opportunity being an institution that publicly advocated for the Fair Play act before it passed in Michigan. Keep the moral high ground if you insist, but this is an opportunity to level the playing field for institutions who play by the rules while still benefiting the student athlete.
I'm with ya. I haven't been able to see any upvote/downvotes since the upgrade. I thought the thread celebrating the return of points was a passive aggressive protest, but alas it appears the ship rescued the survivors from the island while I was still in the bushes relieving myself.
There's a house party for 40 something's at 1351 Washtenaw this weekend. You can start there for some relaxing beers and craft cocktails and head to Scorekeepers bar and grill for some mouth watering bites. They just missed out on earning the first Michelin star in Ann Arbor but you get the idea.
Afterwards there's a relaxing cafe called Rick's, where you can enjoy a nice nightcap with some smooth jazz in the background. A co-ed or two may start moving on the dancefloor but it's all part of the atmosphere.
As others have pointed out everything new takes time to get used to. I think I'll eventually like the new website even more than the old one, but viewing the page on the mobile device needs work. My go to is to check the front page, then scroll and quickly scan the board.
Not nearly as easy as it should be on the new site just yet but assuming that will change.
Do you travel to Denver consistently or bounce around?
When I started I would go to a new city every few weeks. Was warned that if I didn't plan something to look forward to in advance I'd end up doing the, work-dinner-back to hotel routine and hate my life within 6 months.
Go to a Rockies game, check out Ophelia's or Brider for dinner, go for a run through Wash Park (or get a national gym membership do not work out at the hotel), happy hour at tap 14, walk through the aquarium etc.
Basically don't let yourself turn into a Netflix at the Marriott with carry out in your bed hero. Attack each city and you'll find yourself go from dreading the travel to looking forward to it.
Also I live in Denver hence the recommendations but you get my point even if you're bouncing from city to city
Will resemble 2016 with a much harder schedule. If we can get out of South Bend with a W I expect the team to be rolling opponents at 6-0 as we head into our back to back against Wisco and State.
At the end of the day though we'll need to beat 3 out of 4 of Wisco, PSU, MSU and OSU to get in the Championship game.
Bright side is because of the schedule Michigan should be the highest ranked team with X losses, so we shouldn't have to worry about being jumped with 1 loss to a 2 loss ESSCEECEE team.
I said best ball of big ten play.... Shitty competition or not this is the first two game win streak Michigan has had in BIG play, not to mention two straight weeks of a competent rush offense.
Madison has an amazing gameday experience. I lived there for 2 years right after graduating from Ann Arbor and it really helped dealing with my gameday withdrawals. Best bars to hit up if you still have your party bone:

Brats
For dinner if you can snag a table at Old Fashioned you won't regret it. Make sure to load up on the cheese curds.

Agreed. Fans like this should be exposed. There were fans behind me criticizing the play calling when we were up 28-0.
