Is that pronounced how I think it is pronounced?
December 15th, 2021 at 11:10 AM ^
We're all in this together.
December 15th, 2021 at 2:23 PM ^
You can't make these things up--unless you've got a cozy space and a lot of willing people.
December 15th, 2021 at 11:13 AM ^
Yep.

Thanks. Given my own name you might understand my confusion.

(double post. NSD breaking the board)
December 15th, 2021 at 11:17 AM ^
Thanks. That was a close one!
December 15th, 2021 at 11:22 AM ^
Finally - I can finally say this and mean it: I'm here for the gangbang.
BTW: It's finally nice to have our very own "Penix-style" name on the team. Been a while...
December 15th, 2021 at 12:25 PM ^
we had subs, it was crazy
December 15th, 2021 at 12:50 PM ^
Didn’t even catch the fact that it could be pronounced that way.
December 15th, 2021 at 12:50 PM ^
Nothing like a good daisy chain.
December 15th, 2021 at 11:43 AM ^
I do believe it is pronounced so.
While I have never seen the kid, I envision him with a Burt Reynolds mustache and always wearing fine silk robes (in public, at parties, while lounging in his apartment, etc.). Oh, and he definitely owns a hot tub. And you will find a prescription for Valtrex in his medicine cabinet.
December 15th, 2021 at 12:55 PM ^
What about the water bed and the Trans Am with T-tops?
December 15th, 2021 at 11:59 AM ^
Yes, and his brother plays for Vanderbilt and is awesome and was all over the place on defense. This led to the name being said over the PA a LOT during the game. The Mississippi St. fans had great fun with it.
December 15th, 2021 at 12:06 PM ^
Vanderbilt??? Tennessee is no place for an Orji.
December 15th, 2021 at 12:53 PM ^
As a native Nashvillian, I beg to differ.
December 15th, 2021 at 1:07 PM ^
Fair enough. But in that case, why not just have it in the Hollywood Hills, which, or so I have heard, are sort of like Nashville, but with a tan???
December 15th, 2021 at 2:02 PM ^
In Tennessee I believe they prefer to call it a, “family reunion.”
December 15th, 2021 at 2:50 PM ^
I'm sure his parents talked it over, and decided that Michigan is the best place for their little Orji.
December 15th, 2021 at 11:08 AM ^
I never thought we would have Orji
December 15th, 2021 at 11:23 AM ^
Sometimes you just have to try something new? More then merrier!
December 15th, 2021 at 11:24 AM ^
Saying it in a French accent add a little more pizzazz to his name.
December 15th, 2021 at 2:49 PM ^
I’m glad he chose Michigan. Now we, as fans, need to come together and show him our support.
December 15th, 2021 at 11:12 AM ^
Welcome!

Put the Zimas on ice, we are having a....DOUBLE party.
December 15th, 2021 at 11:16 AM ^
I can't, yes I can!
Who doesn't love a good Orji!!
December 15th, 2021 at 11:17 AM ^
Great pickup. At worst, he's a future H-back. At best, he's a change-of-pace QB.
December 15th, 2021 at 12:10 PM ^
What?! I'm on board with your "at worst" here, but I take issue with your best-case scenario.
He's got a very good arm, he's very tough to bring down...watching his highlights reminded me of Big Ben's college days. So I'd say his best-case is a starting QB for an undefeated Michigan football team.
It's tempting to label kids' potential based on what we know before they even arrive on campus. But, especially at a position where athletic ability doesn't necessarily translate to success, it's unfair to put a ceiling on Orji's potential.
December 15th, 2021 at 12:38 PM ^
I just can't bank on HS QBs with poor completion percentages being the team's future. So many times we're told that "there were a lot of drops" and that "his accuracy can be fixed," but then I'm forced to recall Shane Morris and Joe Milton.
December 15th, 2021 at 2:10 PM ^
I hear that! I wouldn't bet on it either. I think there's a wide gap between our expectations--and certainly what we'd put money on--and saying a kid's ceiling is to be a role player.
December 15th, 2021 at 12:29 PM ^
What is it about him that you feel limits his ceiling to being a change-of-pace QB? ?
December 15th, 2021 at 12:36 PM ^
His accuracy numbers are poor (51.4%). Plus, he'll be behind McCarthy and (hopefully) Dante Moore. They'll be pass first, whereas Orji will likely be used as a run-first QB.
December 15th, 2021 at 12:47 PM ^
Eh, I'm not pressed by a high school completion %. McCarthy only threw .580 in high school, but the expectations are still high for him.
This kid's ceiling is Vince Young or higher, in my opinion.
December 15th, 2021 at 1:03 PM ^
Fair point about McCarthy. I was unaware of that.
Your second point, however …
December 15th, 2021 at 1:17 PM ^
To my second point:
December 15th, 2021 at 3:01 PM ^
Vince Young was bigger, faster, completed 60% of his passes as a senior, and averaged 3,000 yards passing a year in HS.
Vince Young was Parade's and Student Sports' National Player of the Year, Texas 5A Offensive Player of the Year, The Sporting News's top high school prospect, and won the Pete Dawkins Trophy in the U.S. Army All-American Bowl.
December 16th, 2021 at 2:36 PM ^
McCarthy threw 58% at IMG.
But at his Illinois HS, it was around 67% for his 2 seasons as a starter.
December 15th, 2021 at 11:17 AM ^
Took a big commitment away from UVA, so it's only fair we pirate VT as well.
December 15th, 2021 at 11:18 AM ^
Glad to have any kid who wants to be a wolverine. I don’t love his film at QB, he will need some time, but I do like his athleticism.
December 15th, 2021 at 11:29 AM ^
Dual sport star, was very productive against good comp (I think).
His throwing mechanics look good but he doesn't look super accurate in the E11 film. Footwork doesn't look great to me but that is something that can be improved. I don't know, I think he's project QB that could be good.
Found this from E11 that included the top QB recruits:
"* Virginia Tech commitment Alex Orji was the most physically impressive prospect in attendance and he backed it up with the highest testing mark throughout all classes, a 98.79, at 6'2" 226 pounds. It included strong times in the 40-yard dash relative to his size and not to mention a 37.7-inch vertical leap. Orji has a strong arm and left the event sporting the ACC program's colors, reaffirming his stance as a quarterback first despite the build and athleticism to play multiple positions."
December 15th, 2021 at 12:07 PM ^
Sounds like Mike Barrett but fast
December 15th, 2021 at 11:20 AM ^
This class is rollin'!!!
December 15th, 2021 at 11:22 AM ^
This tells me Michigan is serious about incorporating the quarterback in the run game for the foreseeable future. When is the last time we had two quarterbacks in the same class?
December 15th, 2021 at 11:27 AM ^
Tate and Denard?
December 15th, 2021 at 11:39 AM ^
Was that the same year we briefly had Kevin Newsome and Shavodrick Beaver as our QB commits? That was a wild time
December 15th, 2021 at 12:19 PM ^
Beaver never really flowered.
Newsome either.
December 17th, 2021 at 7:56 AM ^
Beaver got pounded when used.
December 15th, 2021 at 11:54 AM ^
The highlight video I saw, I don't recall seeing him run even one time... instead just lobbing balls with no pressure. Is he a good runner ?
