This is actually pretty old but I think a lot people said a 2.89 is a B- so it’s not horrible but probably not something to brag about. If we’re talking about horrible graphics did anyone see Penn States super bowl graphic yesterday.

That is an old tweet that was brought back up after Penn State's recent "read the fine print" Super Bowl tweet that other teams have been mimicking and mocking.

I don't know why people here of all places think General Studies is some joke.  I knew a few people who majored in it.  It's in LS&A and you still have to meet the normal requirements.  The athletes who major in it were able to get admitted to LS&A.  That's not all of them.

The reason you see a lot of athletes majoring in it is because BGS allows you more freedom to set your schedule, which is an issue when you have 20 hours of practice every week, plus games/travel.  Most of them are still basically majoring in one subject but without BGS, they wouldn't be able to graduate on time.

Yeah, this is a tired take.  I did a BGS and graduated in '86.  I had to do 60 credits of 300-level and above classes (plus all of the other LSA requirements), which is non-trivial.  I checked this and it is still the case.  In most departments, you can't take 300+ level classes without some prerequisites, so you have to focus on a few things or you spend a lot of time taking lower level classes which don't count toward the degree.  I did mostly computer science and english classes, but there were some other things mixed in.  Honestly, I spent a fair amount of time scouring the catalogs for "easy" classes and found a few, but there weren't many.

It was not the easy way out, it was the most efficient way for me to graduate after changing majors a couple of times.  I got an education that has served me well for many years.

It's funny, because I sent a very similar message to Josh Levin who had been making snide comments about Michigan BGS degrees on Hang Up and Listen for years.  He hasn't said anything since then, I think I may have convinced him to stop.

Texas is huge brand name and this is their way of selling that name. Contrary to the arrogance of a small portion of the Michigan fanbase, there are other schools who are good too academically. I’ll put my alma mater UNC Chapel Hill with UM any day of the week

If you scroll down there is an interesting tweet about PSU '22 commit TE Holden Staes who just reopened his recruiting yesterday.

247 composite #204 and #6 TE.

Maybe Jay can have a look to pair with Marlin Klein who is also from GA.

When I was in school my roommate had a class with a popular basketball player. Back then, final exam papers were just left outside the teachers office for students to pick up. My friend accidentally took both his and the players (their names were next to each other). We read the players piece which earned him a B+. I’ll just say it was not a B+ paper, and that’s being generous. Moral of the story is don’t assume our shit smells like roses.

when i was in school our tests didn't have names on them, only student numbers.

that said, i did 'help' some of my teammates with tests in some of our classes by writing very large and taking my time.  i would be in the center of a few of them.  i even sat for a couple of tests when i didn't have the class (econ and stats) just so i could be, you know, helpful.

Interesting twitter reply (did not validate if this was true):

"If Larry Fitzgerald, Darrelle Revis, Lesean McCoy, and Aaron Donald all get into the hall of fame, Pitt will have the most hall of famers of any school"

A team GPA of 2.89 is good considering 1) how much time they have to devote to practice, and 2) UT is no joke academically.

But of course, much of the general public won't understand the first two points, so the tweet is lost on them.

I find it incredibly challenging to meet the academic demands of a University and play top level football.  It seems a bit ridiculous the demands we have on these players.

And then we have fans who mock players for their academics AND performance on the field.  Incredible self entitled piece of shit douche bag mold infested fans.
