it’s also a terrible business choice for BTN. which event draws more viewers Hockey or Wrestling? no offense but that’s not close. i love UM wrestling and went a number of times at Michigan, but WTF are they doing with this programming.
if the head coach is the fall guy for punishing Michigan, isn’t any head coach getting suspended? or is the NCAA dropping its investigation, and any punishment, if Harbaugh leaves? Also is it more likely to vacate wins if Harbaugh leaves because there is no one to punish? finally, is UM better keeping Harbaugh or letting him walk? gone for a year with pay or gone for forever?
not really, he can’t handle the academic load/responsibility playing a full schedule and staying home allows him access to additional academic resources he would not get on the road. punishment for not upholding his end of the bargain but also not screwing him completely because he made a mistake a lot of athletes make as they lose sight of their other responsibilities.
One thing to consider is the amount of additional practice provided by bowl games, it may not even be about the outcome of the bowl game for a lot of these teams, just more time to practice with guys who are around next year.
Uh, we won the B1G with Cade McNamara at QB. Sure having 5 stars is nice and certainly raises the floor, and we would be better obviously, but tens win with 4 star dudes.
I agree with this, except if he doesn’t feel like he can have that conversation with Howard (or maybe he has and doesn’t perceive change) then doesn’t that speak to the exact culture Sanderson is calling out?
The biggest difference in your example is Stallions was on UM's staff, paying people to do the work. Coaches share film and insights with other coaches all the time when it serves their interests to do so, but they aren't paid employees. I don't think it is ambiguous at all that UM broke the rules. The punishment and reaction is insane and ludicrous, but welcome to the US in 2023.
Ohio State has the best loss of any of the 1 loss teams, not sure why they wouldn’t be ahead of every one loss team who is not a conference champion.
Washington losing to Oregon would be the only legit argument ahead of OSU. Having already beaten the PAC 12 Champion Ducks should they lose to Oregon.
1. Georgia
2. Michigan
3. FSU/Washington
4. Oregon/ FSU/OSU
if Bama wins Texas has to be in, and then it’s
1. Michigan
2. Washington/Oregon
3. Texas
4. Bama
Or my dream scenario, Bama beats Georgia, Washington and FSU both win and then Texas has the head to head over Bama, would the committee put a team ahead of a team who beat them head to head?
1 Michigan
I would also add those Georgia teams were loaded with NFL talent beyond normal talent levels. I think the entire Philadelphia Eagles front 7 is from that Georgia team (okay maybe not all 7). So Bennett, while not a “generational” QB had a lot of runway and less pressure to carry his team.
I mean whose corner backs have been better the past few seasons regardless of star ratings? Kid gave into his Dad’s pressure and interests, maybe it works out maybe it doesn’t, but how can anyone think this is in his best interest football wise?
Both these outfits employ similar business models. Saturate a market with stores to eliminate local, struggling business. When the competition is fine close some of your stores.
I wonder if the progress Drevno may have been making with the O line wqs thrown for a loop when Frye wqs hired? When we went back to being "power" dominant we look pretty good. Amd that is Drevno's wheel house. In Harbaugh's efforts to diversify the O, I wonder if it didnt have the reverse effect? We have had a lot of turn over with offensive pay calling and staff and at some point maintaining some consistency has to matter. Our strongest position (d line) has had the same coach (Mattison) for at least 5 yrs. Probably not a coincidence both from talent acquisition and development, this group has been our best.
I would worry about Maryland. That is a huge game for UM, following this huge win with a let down loss at home v Maryland would erase any good this win has done. Beat the Terps.
No, maybe top 20. Consider Duke, MSU, Nova and UNC. Are we there? Not yet but maybe by the end of next year. If Beilein can keep these Freshmen until they are juniors and next year's class as sophomores. In two years I think we are probably top 10.
When more than half your coaches are making $1 million+ and the conference commissioner is making a million bucks, and three conference as a group is making tens of millions of dollars, it shouldn't be hard to pony up the dough for full time officials. Three incompetence is astounding
If wecein out, OSU beats Sparty we all end up with two conference lossrs. Tie breaker goes to highestvranked team l, which would presumably be is having beaten top ten Wisconsin and to 20 OSU.
I agree, but O'Korn's intangibles, hell even Speight's, at times dont outweight their poor physical ability/outcomes. At some point yiu have to be abke to make basic reads and plays. Not saykng Peters will be better, but we are atbthe time to see or very near the time to see. O'Korn missed WAY too many easy reads and throws yesterday.
Collins is a likely candidate to replace K at Duke and that day is probably closer than Beilein leaving UM. Establishing relationships in Evanston gives Donlon the inside track at a job at NW where expectations are lower and he has deep ties. Jordan is a more likely Beilein replacement si long as he keeps the Butler trajectory. I wonder if anyone from Bo Ryan's tree is available to come coach some D here, or who is on the list of replacements.
Depending on the number of services you pay for the cost differential isn't worth the hassle. We had Netflix ($10h Hulu ($15), Sling ($20) and 100mb internet ($60) totaling ~$110 per month. Our UVerse Gigabit service with U300 and HD tier is $160 and we have access to every sports Network imaginable.
It is dumbfounding to me that our best option off the bench is Mark Donnal. It may be more astounding that Zak Irvin can be the worst player on the court and we have no one to replace him with. Are we really this bad?
IDF not Beilein, then who will coach this team next year? Even if Beilein isn't fitted or when he retires who could be on the short list of names to replace him?
He hit two deep balls and their defense scored. They didn't do anything on the ground or outside of two or three big plays. No QB picked us apart at any time this year.
We are the same team this year as we were last year and have been since Stauskas left. We haven't had anyone who can get a good look when we absolutely need it. Caris could but was never healthy enough. Its why we go so long without buckets and shoot 25% in halves.

because it’s Michigan State and they aren’t the sharpest skates on the ice?

He’s going to Duke because he is guaranteed to start. Also they are going to be decent in a bad conference.

Uh, that’s a low bar and will be awful again next year.

Directly connected to Michigan’s success. If they win out, I think they are both out the door. If they fall short, then it’s more up in the air.
