Your Michigan Moment good and bad ....

Whats your favorite Wolverine Moment and worst moment ? Any sport any era .....

My favorite is the 30 foot 3-pointer from Trey vs Kansas (i thought Mitch was gonna get called for an offensive foul on that play for his screen 30 feet from the basket)  March 29  2013

My worst is the Cordell Stewart hail mary . Colorado vs Michigan (Sept 24, 1994)  just got done with a baseball game, walked into a bar with like 30 seconds left .then my heart fell out ...

I have hoops on the brain.

Favorite: 1989 championship

Worst: Losing to a less-talented UNC team in 1993. (They weren't scrubs, but Michigan should've won that game.)

Best:  January 1, 1998 Woodson's interception in the end zone, which brought back hope for the NC I'd been waiting for most of my life.

Worst:  Bo passes away on the eve of 2006 game, dampening spirits around what could have been a focused effort and an all-around great day.

In person experiences:  Any of the multiple times I’ve been there with my sons to watch Michigan has always been the best. The worst; The 1973 OSU 10-10 tie was a real heartbreaker. Lantry’s field-goal looked good and Michigan truly deserved to win that game. Subsequent to that the uprights were raised to 20 feet.

AC's freshman season, homecoming vs Indiana. Pure classic AC!!!

Hey rob f: Were you at AC's last home game? Against Purdue in 1982. Back then they would announce the seniors playing their last home game along with their hometown starting in the fourth quarter. UM was nearing midfield when the PA announcer said "There is one senior left"!!! 100,000 fans began chanting AC AC AC. Wangler goes back to pass and throws a bomb to AC, completing it for a TD. You can relive this moment on Anthony Carter highlights Youtube. One of many memorable moments I saw at the Big House.

Thanks SRJKing. Just watched the last 4 minutes of it and not only did I see that great catch (thrown by Steve Smith, I believe), but also a couple nice runs by Kerry Smith, one of my favorite Michigan backup RBs ever---my brother in law helped coach him waaayy back before Smith's high school career.

I stand corrected, it definitely was Steve Smith who threw the pass to AC. A funny conclusion to the story: after the extra point and the crowd had settled down a bit, a lady who sat in the row in front of us says to her husband "They never did announce that last senior". ?

This game clinched the Big Ten and sent UM to the Rose Bowl.

I remember standing on my seat in the big house when Cordell hit Westerbrook (?) with a 60+ yard pass. I was searching for yellow flags for what seemed like an eternity. Thanks for reminding me.
Best memory? So many, but if you talking a full game experience, it’s hard to top PSU in ‘97. The drive over the Nittany mountains to get to the stadium, the electrical atmosphere of the enormous tailgating parking lot, the draconian look of their steel stadium as you walked up. The game itself was indescribable, the physical beating we put on them from the first series to Dadrion’s crushing (and career-ending hit) on their TE and Woodson’s pyrotechnic offensive plays. The silence of the lambs.

I traveled from Colorado to AA for that Kordell game with three good friends from CU  I remember UM was winning fairly easy and one buddy looked at me in the third and said wow I wish we could’ve given you a good game at least. I told him it’s a long ways from over and let’s see what happens. I remember when Stewart hit that pass my buddies and it seemed like about 100 other people were the only ones cheering in the stadium. Then to top it off we were flying standby to get back home. Last minute they called my party and we got on the plane. I was first one on and they told me to head back in the plane and find a seat in the back. I found a seat in the last row in the middle between two fat chicks. My buddies ended up in first class

Those I’ve seen in person:

Best: Under the Lights v Notre Dame. First night game. Amazing tailgate all day long. Hell of a back and forth game. Amazing finish.

Worst: 50 yard line seats for the App State game. Quietest I’ve seen the big house. Like walking out of church.

Best Moment:  Biakabatuka 314 yards against OSU.  My lasthome game a student.

Worst Moment:  Josh Metellus drop in 2017 against OSU.  We had them on the ropes 14-0.  It was a Bartman moment.  He catches that interception I'm confident OSU folds in that game.  Instead the next play was a qb scramble for a touchdown to make the game 14-7.

Fuck Ohio

Favorite: I have to echo OP's selection. That 2013 team is still my favorite Michigan basketball squad (I wasn't born to see them so I can't claim the Fab Five or 1989 squad) and Trey is my all-time favorite Michigan player. So many great memories of watching that team igniting my love for basketball.

Worst: It's tough, but I'm going with the 2016 OSU football game. The fact that we should have won the game in regulation, should have had Curtis Samuel down in the backfield on 3rd down in OT coupled with the bad spot on the 4th down play still hurts to this day. Especially with hindsight, the feelings of what could have been for that 2016 UM football team decimate my hopes of success in football the more time passes.

Honorable Mention: Freshmen year of college in 2017-18 and being on campus for a National Title run in Hoops. Running down to South U. to participate in the block party after the win over Loyola in the Final Four was unforgettable!

Here's to more memorable Michigan Sports' moments. Go Blue!

Best: 1997 OSU. First time I attended the rivalry in person. First time in the student section. You know the stakes. You know the moment.

Second place: Hockey regional weekend, 2002. The whole weekend was incredible. The Denver game was amazing. The whole third period after Werner scored to tie it was electric. The explosion after Ortmeyer scored the winner with ~90 seconds left was deafening. The catharsis as the team saluted the roaring crowd, unforgettable.

Worst: I really don't want to parse what makes a soul-crushing moment more soul-crushing. Was it worse to watch, in person, as Michigan had a tenth national title in its grasp only to have it stolen away in overtime (2003, 2011)? Was it worse to come so close to a national title in basketball in 13 but have a crucial moment robbed by a bad foul call (2013?) Was it playing heroically, finally shutting down an opposing mobile QB, leading in the fourth quarter, on the road, with the conference title and the playoff on the line, and losing in OTs? Was it to, despite yourself, feeling confident going into that game, with your team playing its best football in a decade, and that other team scuffling, barely beating Maryland, convinced you're finally in the elite, winning the conference, in the playoff... and then watch the defense be put to the sword by mesh cross after mesh cross after mesh cross?

I refuse to think about these horrors enough to classify them. They were awful, the end.

Just have the teams play at the higher seeds. I have, uh, made this arguments numerous times before. Home games for higher seeds rewards teams that perform well, fills seats, provides great atmosphere. It's a win-win-win for everyone except the glut of low-fan-small-schools out east that like how things are.

Worst, jeez man.... In person I’ve seen us lose in the Rose Bowl, lose in two basketball national championships (Duke and Villanova), and lose to Colorado on the Hail Mary. Take your pick.

Best: gun to head answer is probably staying in the Lexington hotel with the ‘89 team during the regionals as an 11-y-o kid and playing videos games with the players. Then watching them win it all on TV a week later with Mr. Robinson’s last second free throws.

But I could go on and on about either. Our teams have brought so much joy and meaning to my life it’s kind of freaky to think about.

I will only use games I attended

Worst: Attending my first home game in 2007 vs App State. With everything leading up to this season... this was a huge gut punch. I know some argue Oregon the following week was worse but it really wasn't a shocker to me after this one.

Close 2nd: 2013 Ohio State.

Best: Attending my 2nd away game vs MSU in 2007 (the other being the 2005 game). The first half was a defensive slog but Michigan did take a good lead into the half. MSU took the lead into the 4th quarter and it was not looking great, especially after some crazy long run by Javon Ringer which set up the two score lead with 7 some minutes left. Then the comeback happened, I'm sure you all remember Mallet coming in, fumbling the ball, Hart somehow finding it and fighting his way for a first down to keep it alive. Henne coming back and throwing beautiful TD passes. Having tickets in the upper decks meant a really slow walk out the stadium. The best part was chanting ITS GREAT TO BE A MICHIGAN WOLVERINE all the way down in front of so many Sparties.

Close 2nd: Beating ND in the first night game.

Favorite was being at Yost for a game against WMU and Hagelin scored to tie and then win in OT. I think it was senior night 2011 but I might be mixing games up. Being at Joe Louis for the CCHA championship in 2010 was equally awesome.

Worst was the trouble with the snap game, I wasn't there but I was at a bar with MSU fans laughing at me. It was an awful feeling and it's only gotten worse.

The best: watching Mercury Hayes reel in the TD pass against UVA while watching the game on AFRTS at the MAC terminal at Yokota Air Base in Tokyo while drinking 75 cent Buds out of a pop machine. I walked out into the blaring sun at 5 am or so drunk off my ass.

The worst: watching UM piss away a nice lead at Huskie Stadium in the 4th quarter. The blocked FG happened right in front of me and we were screaming "noooo" as it set up.

The best:  freshmen year 1976 beating OSU in Columbus 22-0 without completing a single pass.  We were all out on State Street whooping it up.

The worst:  Pick any loss in football to OSU.  They all drained the life out of me.

best: 1989 nat'l championship in seattle - was there for both games.

another memorable one was last football game as a student, 1983 v. ohio, sitting on the bench and taking it all in realizing that part of my life was over.   walking slowly off the field and up the tunnel after the game.

2019 beatdown of ND, in the rain, on the field again, but this time with one of my sons.  (have a picture of him on the ND exercise/warm-up bike....)

Best: 1997 PSU game. Nothing comes close probably because I was there

Worst: tackling Desmond in the end zone. The sparties after that game were horrible  or maybe Mike Lantry

As a 3L at CU in 1994, I can't hate on Kordell. Magic. It's worth it to practice tip drills.

Worst in person was seeing Vada Murray knocked TF out against O-State in 1989. Scary 10 or 20 mins.

I came in late on AC's magic, so best is probably Glen Rice in the tournament, 1989. CW chewing on a Rose is close.

In person:  My worst moment was MSU blocking the punt and scoring against us in 2015.  That was god awful.  My best moment was Charles Woodson’s punt return against Ohio State in 1997.

Best: moment I woke up and realized there wouldn't be any more Michigan football for almost a year.

Worst: the moment I realized that I would never not be a Michigan fan, no matter how hard I wish it.

Best: Either Scooter's empty netter vs North Dakota in the 2011 Frozen Four (my avatar) or Jordan Morgan's final dunk vs Cuse in 2013

Worst: 2016 OSU

Wangler to Carter

Colorado Hail Mary

I was there for both of these. I am assuming you are talking a specific play/moment, as opposed to something like the 1989 Rose Bowl win over USC.

Best - watching in person as we won the 1997 National Title in the '98 Rose Bowl

Worst - probably the spot in 2016 though the Kordell Stewart game and seeing the App State loss in person (and then the annihilation at the hands of Oregon the following week) were also sizable dong punches.   Also "Crable Noooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" though we WERE behind in that game but I felt like if we stopped them Henne & Co would have won the game

I'm going to limit my two to games I attended. Since I live 1,000 miles away from Ann Arbor, I don't have a lot of recent games to choose from. The best was the win against Houston at NCAA  game in Wichita. Tickets were pricey since the early game had Kansas playing, so I drove the two hours without a ticket and bought a ticket late from my hotel room. The pick up location for the game was a bar near the arena. I hadn't factored in that it was St Patrick's Day. Streets were blocked off; bars and parking lots were packed, but I made it. It was a hell of an ending!

The worst was the football game at Nebraska where Denard was injured. The second half of that game was cold, windy, and brutal.
