No need to stop, Chalky. Stating that you know the outcome of a yes/no, A or B situation does not make you some kind of genius. It is literally like predicting a coin flip. Tweeting that Beilien will be taking the Cavs job when there has been zero talk of him leaving = impressive reporting. Tweeting that a coach who has just interviewed for a job will take the job = lame speculation.

His comment wasn't a prediction, though.  He said it was decided and that he had a source.  Amy Yak refuted that it was decided because I'm sure it wasn't decided.  That didn't mean he wouldn't and up at Texas once it was decided, but it didn't make him correct at the time.

It's not that hard to make say something about a 50/50 thing and then claim you knew if you called heads correctly.  Doesn't mean you knew, just means you took a guess and it turned out to flip your way.

My opinion:

I think pride/disappointment is blinding him...

Look at it from his perspective. If Beilein had remained at Michgian, Yaklich is probably 5-7 years away from becoming HC of Michigan - a historically top-15 program before turning 50. (He's 42 right now.) He was essentially de facto HCiW and was in the process of building an impressive resume as DC of M Basketball. Beilein's departure screwed him on that timeline.

After Beilein's unexpected departure, Yaklich interviewed for the Michigan HC job but was not promoted despite having a credible claim. (We can reasonably say the defense would have been elite year after year.)

But given the increasingly high stakes of big time athletics, ADs are less and less likely to promote internally. They like the comfort of hiring an established brand name HC with a stellar resume. But promoting Yaklich would not have been different from Michigan promoting Frieder's assistant Steve Fisher to HC or Sparty promoting Izzo to HC after Heathcote retired.

Manuel decided against this move and that probably bothers Yaklich a lot.

Not saying this is a poor take. It's a good take. I'll point out a couple things.

1. I think it inflates Yaklich's record/known abilities a bit.

2. I think it is a little insane to think that Yaklich was willing to wait around for 5-7 years for Beilein to retire. In fact, that is almost laughable. If Yak was Beilein's assistant for 5-7 more years, you'd have the same coaching search dilemma in hiring a guy that has not been a head coach in a very long time.

3. Sure, he probably is a bit upset he didn't get the job. But he seems rather pragmatic to me and he knows it was a bit of a long shot. If Beilein left early in the hiring season, Yak would not have been seriously considered.

I think it's quite the big jump to say that Yak is leaving bc he's bothered by Manuel's decision. He's leaving because he got a good offer and it will springboard to his next job, which will be as a head coach almost for sure.

Do you honestly believe that nobody inside speaks to him and he just takes random guesses, hoping to get lucky? He was the first person to say the contract was 5 years, $10 million. Was that a lucky guess?

I get it. The guy isn't likeable. But somebody plugged in obviously talks to him. If you do some research you can come across something on the first year of this very blog and can make the connection for exactly who his source is. I'll say no more.

I'm sure he has "sources" in the sense that one or more people in the AD talk to him; people are human and want to feel important when they share information the public doesn't have access to.  Hell, Gregggggggg Henson had "sources" at UM who knew stuff about the Harbaugh hire before others.  Knowing a contract's terms that may well have been leaked beforehand?  Sure.  I'd assume a source at the AD would have access to paperwork.  Of course, the contract wasn't necessarily a simple 5 yr/$10MM; it had accelerators and performance bonuses and buyouts and all that fun stuff (which he probably didn't know), but sure, in broad strokes he got that right.  I'd assume nothing less of a source; I'm sure Brian had multiple connected people telling him the same thing.  I would like to point out that had he reported the Beilein move earlier, that would have been a more impressive sign of his source's knowledge.

But do I think that Moss knew that Luke Yaklich had officially announced to UM his intentions to leave Michigan basically the day that Howard signed on?  No.  My guess is Yaklich was unhappy about not getting a HC gig and could read the tea leaves in terms of the type of coach Howard was.  And Texas had already been sniffing around.  He made an educated guess, which is something a lot of people had done already.  But the ink wasn't yet dry on the contract and I'm assuming that Yaklich was grappling with the decision and wanted to talk to Howard first.  Again, it's all playing the percentages; it's making logical deductions based on available information, but it's not knowing absolute truths as much as his sources saying "Yak seems pissed and is probably gone" and turning that into a tweet.

What is this, the Da Vinci Code?  Either say what you know or don’t bother with this cryptic nonsense.

I read on here that Michigan has control over who stayed as JH’s assistant coaches. If so, I hope Yak is taking less money at Texas and just wanted a fresh start.

The podcast says UM offered 2 years at 500k, Texas offer 350k.

"sources"  = Moss??

no modifier, e.g. inside sources, athletic dept. sources, boosters, someone close to the program, to Yakich's agent,

some guy I follow on twitter

Questionable decision to take the Texas offer when Shaka will probably be fired in a year, but it's his life. Good luck Yak.

Time to get this new era underway with Howard. I take it Washington and Haynes are staying with a new assistant?
