Yahoo profile story on Jabrill Peppers

Submitted by Other Andrew on

I'm usually not the biggest Pat Forde fan, but he's covered a lot of ground here and collected some interesting tidbits I was not aware of.

“Me and football,” Peppers says, “we’ve got a real good relationship. It got me out of a lot of bad situations. It started as a way to channel my aggression and my anger.”

Great story. Forde has steadily progressed into a decent sports journalist since his days at ESPN. Good to see that talented people know enough to get out of bad situations. This applies to both Jabrill and Pat.

he is phenomenal on closing on sweeps. They do need to train him to keep muscle coordination at top speed bec he often falls down on punt returns untouched and out of control. It appears he'd taking it to another gear he has never used. they should have him practice sprints sideways downhill to get coordination

Love the way they drew up the play on Wilton's hand. I would hate to be Paul Chryst and trying to account for him on gameday. Man, I hope Jabril comes back for one more special year.

Maybe it's more accurate to say Speight explained Peppers' role in the play by describing it on the plam of his hand.  Undoubtedly that play is in the playbook with the fake possibly going to Chesson or McDoom, however, neither of those players raise the fear factor in the eye of opponents the way Peppers does.

that I want to be Jabrill Peppers when I grow up. Seriously: In 30-odd years, any of the following things (or combination thereof) could be true of this guy:

1) Is a hall-of-fame linebacker with a couple of superbowl rings

2) Is a Grammy-Winning recording artist

3) Is a successful businessman and producer

4) Has embarked on a coaching career, and is the head coach in waiting for the UM job

5) Is running for president after a succesful stint in Congress

6) Decided to become an actor and is now starring in the Avengers Reboot.

7) Has written a trilogy of books about a group of teens saving the world from something

I could keep going, but this kid is amazing.

This young man is going to do whatever he wishes. Actually, he will probably do many things during his lifetime and do them all well.

I was there in 1972. I missed being discharged from the Army straight from Vietnam by one month. So when I returned in '72, I had to spend my last 8 months in the Army working at the Armed Forces Induction Center, just off Broad St., in Newark, NJ.at the federal building.  At that time there was a virtual day-to-day change between Newark and Detroit as being the "Murder Capital of the U.S." When I do visit Detroit and see all the empty lots, the structures still standing because they lack the tax dollars to raze them, I cannot imagine Newark being in any better shape.

I recall me and a friend going to a local bar situated across the street from my apartment complex. We had probably a beer each when the bartender called "Last Call." I looked at the c;lock and it was 9:00 p.m. I asked, "Is last call always at 9?" His reply, "Believe me, you don't want to be out past 9 in Newark."  Because we always hit surrounding cities for our weekend relaxation, It was actually the only time I had ever been out in Newark in the p.m. but I got the message.

This young man and many from the city of Detroit have grown so much more than their counterparts from the burbs simply by keeping their grades up, going to school daily and attending the University of Michigan. It may be only my opinion, but many of these young men have accomplished so much more than those that see this as a natural "next step." Looking back, as much as I detested my time in the service, I'm thankful that I did serve those 8 months there. Without that time I would not have fully realized just how truly these young men already are. Yes, Jabril is great at football. He's also great at life.
