Wrestling rolling out the red carpet?

The Dean brothers have left Cornell. Max has two years left and Gabe is looking for another RTC. Rumor has is Max isn’t taking a chance at missing another season. Any chance they come home?

Man you have got to know that almost know one here knows enough about wrestling to know what the hell you're talking about. We need a great deal more detail and a helluva better title.

Being that you stated that you, and most of the rest of the board, are casual fans who only watch B1G's and NCAA's you would likely know Cornell wrestling is a nationally relevant team and has quality wrestlers at nearly every weight. You would just as likely realize that outside of this season and the cancelled NCAA tournament last season, that there has been a Dean brother in the NCAA finals 4 of 5 years. So the casual fan would absolutely know the Dean name, as well as the culture of Cornell wrestling. If you don't know either, you're not a casual fan you're a random passerby who is aware of the sport but does not follow it in the slightest. The above comment is spot on. Even if by some stretch you call yourself a casual fan of a sport but don't know one of the perennial heavy hitters, theres a thing called the internet that would be happy to provide you with the information you seek to educate yourself on the matter before commenting, being that you've demonstrated competency navigating that to this website I feel confident you could figure out how to google Max or Gabe Dean.

Somehow I missed Cornell at the Big Ten championships.

Until this season I attended quite a few of the WBB games. I could tell you a fair amount about all of our players, but I doubt I could name a single player on the #10 team in the country unless they happened to be in the Big Ten.

I don't think I'm alone in being a fan of various Michigan teams more than being a college sports fan in general. If that's not enough to be considered a casual fan I plead guilty.

Let's get Max Dean at 184 (if Myles doesn't come back), Shane Griffith at 174 (defending national champ at 165) and Real Woods at 141. That team could challenge for a title.

1. Who are the Dean brothers?

2. What’s an RTC?

3. Why did they leave Cornell?

4. Why did Max miss a season?

5. Where is “home”?

6. Are you suggesting they’ll transfer to Michigan’s wrestling program?

7. Is there a portal for wrestlers?

Let me try:

1. Max and Gabe Dean. Max is a current wrestler for Cornell and Gabe is a former Cornell wrestler who now competes internationally in freestyle wrestling and is one of the top few guys in the US at his weight. Gabe is affiliated with Cornell's RTC (see below).

2. Regional Training Centers are freestyle (international style) wrestling organizations where guys train after college to compete for the US at the Olympics and world championships, among other international events. RTCs are usually affiliated with a university and the guys work and practice with the college team. For example, UM is affiliated with the Cliff Keen RTC. These can be huge for recruiting to the college program because HS kids know they will be able to practice with top guys in the RTC who are usually former NCAA all Americans. The RTCs raise money and pay these guys to be affiliated with them, so it's akin to "going pro" in wrestling.

3 and 4. Max is leaving because he is concerned the Ivy league is going to cancel sports again later this year and he'll lose another year of competition (which happened this past season when the Ivy cancelled all winter sports). Sounds like it's a precautionary moveby Max more than being based on any evidence the Ivy will cancel again at this point.  Max was an NCAA runner up in 2019 and an AA in 2018, so he's really good. Not sure why Gabe is leaving but more common for RTC guys to move around programs for various reasons.

5. Lowell, MI

6. That seems to be the implication though it would only make sense for Max if Myles Amine doesn't come back next year as he would likely compete at the same weight and Myles is just as good or better than Max. Gabe could move to Cliff Keen RTC for any number of reasons (closer to home, money, etc.).

7. Yes, there is a portal and it's quite active this off-season. Stanford's wrestling program has been terminated so their guys are in the portal as well. UM is one of the favorites to land Shane Griffith from Stanford, who just won an NCAA title at 165lbs last month. He'd be a huge get for the program.

Actually a friend of mine played D3 hoops and is a close friend of Obama’s. They would hoop regularly in Chicago and played a brand of ball that didn’t allow easy layups. Obama can hoop.

He is certainly more athletic than Trump but Trump would fight dirty with more killer instinct.  If Obama could make it through the 1st round Trump would gas out.

Also, Look for Adam Coon in the Olympics in Greco. Still has to qualify but that shouldn’t be a problem. The world qualifier is in Bulgaria next month.
