Would you hire Urban Meyer to coach Michigan?

Given the latest disclosure on Urban and knowing what you know about him as a person and also his ability to deliver victories and championships, if you were AD at Michigan, would you hire Urban Meyer to be head coach of the football team (assume money is not an issue)?

Of course not - too many character and integrity issues. Winning should not trump integrity. Let institutions willing to win at all costs deal with the inevitable scandals that follow him everywhere.

Agreed. As much as Harbaugh does run his mouth, I do like his dialectical quote about a conversation which begins by asking "How good was Team #1xx?" which responds with talking about how we can't know how "good" this team was until they've become men, begun families, ascended in their careers, raised children, achieved highly, and given back to their community/contributed beneficially to the human race.

Football is a wonderful ritual which brings people together and demonstrates the beauty of athleticism, the symphony of cooperation, and dynamism of strategy, football is particularly gorgeous in this regard as it combines both the most brutal and beastial aspects (we're not talking "no hand-check" basketball), but also the formation and window-dressing aspects of group coordinated deception, and individual sacrifice for the greater good (only hockey is in the same tier). But it's not the be all end all to life, and 18-22 is not, nor should not be the pinnacle of a man's life (nor decade-ish for the 1% that go to the NFL), there's just so much more to experience, celebrate, and accel at in this wonderful world.

So, like Jim's quote, we can't judge how "good" this Team was, for another 40-50 years, when all the really, truly important cards have been played, and we really see what type of men these players went on to become.

I don’t think Michigan football is batting 1.000 on citizenship either. You could also make a case that having a football team that actually wins conference and national championships raises the profile of the school which leads to an increase in applications which allows the university to admit smarter kids and therefore makes it more competitive and a better university overall.

Again, Michigan isn’t exactly hurting in the volume or quality of applications. The high academic kids who are applying to major universities probably don’t care all that much if the football team is winning national championships. They’re going to care about the university’s reputation in their particular field of study.

I lack the necessary money to pay Urban Meyer what he's worth to coach Michigan. But I would send the athletic department a killer letter of recommendation.

Not at all after the BS he pulled at Florida - and certainly not after his slimy stint at osu.  The latest news has no bearing on anything - just more confirmation of who/what he is.

I don't know why people have such a hard time getting this. Even if it were a possibility it wouldn't work out on the field the way it did at UF and OSU. Meyer requires a certain culture to operate at his full capacity. Michigan does not have this culture.

It's like marrying a beautiful woman who you know is a shrew. You might be able to deal with it at first and enjoy her beauty, but in the long run it will destroy you

Nobody gives a shit what those cooler-poopers think. OSU degrees aren’t worth anything close to a UM degree and part of the reason is that we care about ‘playing school’ and all they care about is winning football games. They probably weren’t embarrassed when the school president joked about getting fired by the football coach, when that would’ve caused righteous outrage here. Go cheer for Alabama or Clemson if you’re too stupid to understand the difference
