Would Sainristil to CB make sense?

If I remember correctly he played corner in High School and Michigan was one of the few schools who saw him as a WR. Seems like playing time might be thin for him at wideout and barring grad transfers the secondary needs players.

Corner was a serious problem this year, but we have three top-200 players who were freshmen this year who didn't get to benefit from spring practice. The position will probably be vastly better next season.

No. He is one of our three best receivers. I understand he played corner at a high level in high school, but he'll be entering his third year in the program as a wide receiver. Moving him would be a terrible display of roster management.

Mike doesn’t have great hands, IMO so I don’t project much for him at the WR position going forward unless he is able to change that.  Wish him the best, but a change for position may benefit him.

I don’t know if I’m just experiencing Deja vu, but I swear this exact thread has been hashed out before.

And no, that’s a bad idea and you should feel bad for suggesting it.

Winovich was recruited as an OLB and spent a brief stint at TE. He wasn't a natural TE moved to DE because we were getting caved at DE; he was a guy that was quite talented and found his spot.

A position switch to fix a position is a fantasy that never happens. The season preview discusses this issue every year in the Heuristics section. A position change to a bad position is a desperation move. It provides depth, at best (see: Faustin, Sammy). You never pull a guy who actually contributes at their old position because then you're hurting that position for not much gain at the new one. Position changes to "fix" a position never do so.

Sainristil playing CB in high school is not the same thing as playing CB against sophisticated passing offenses and athletic receivers in college. It requires vision, mastery of concepts, and technique that a receiver simply doesn't have. Not even close.

Position changes that work happen for two reasons: 1. The guy is brilliantly talented or at least physically suited and can succeed. This happens irrespective of the needs at the position, and occasionally results in a guy filling multiple roles (see: Woodson, Charles). 2. The guy moves, usually early in his career, because his position is stacked and he has time to grow into the new position.

People look at holes and think, "What about moving player X" there?" And it never happens because it's never a good idea.
