Woodson on Jim Rome at 2:00 EST
I know a lot of you on this board aren't to fond of Rome, but I think he does some pretty good interviews. I wouldn't post this for anyone else but since it's Woodson I thought I should. If anyone is interested, you can listen to it on 1130 A.M. or on http://www.wdfn.com/main.html. Should be on around 2:00 after the break.

Thanks for the info! I'm no fan of Rome but I will tune in for Woodson any day.

Interesting. Wasn't he just on a few weeks ago? I wonder if this has anything to do with his comments about what's going on in Madison right now.
February 23rd, 2011 at 1:27 PM ^
Woodson couldn't come on Mgoblog to discuss his political views so he has had to resort to going onto Jim Rome's show to get his voice heard...
February 23rd, 2011 at 1:39 PM ^
I really doubt it has anything to do with what's going on in Wisconsin, he might ask him a question or two about it but Rome usually doesn't talk politics. He just loves Woodson and likes to have him on.

I don't think Jim Rome is necessarily bad at his job. But the "hyped up frat guy who wants to either lift weights and bro-fist his friends all day or punch your face in because you happen to exist" tone becomes unbearable in a matter of milliseconds.

I also LOVE how he says the exact same thing over and over and over. He used up a half hour on Jay Cutler and said the following for the entire segment: "He might have been hurt. But there are guys who would play through that. Maybe he was too hurt to help the team. I'm just saying there are guys who would play through it..."
Oh, and let's not forget how everything has a nickname.
Maddening. His show is one that I can tolerate ONLY if I tune in for 5 minutes and then tune back in a day or two later for another 5 minutes.

listen for 30 minutes. I'm stupid.

I'm so glad he won a ring!

Jim Rome:
"Alright lets go to the mailbag. Here's an email: 'Dear Jim, Great show!' signed, Jim Rome. Great email!"

"we lost to the Lions in a game we NEVER should have lost."
That hurts my heart Charles. Please let us have something to hold on to as Lions fans.
February 23rd, 2011 at 2:12 PM ^
Charles doesn't see a lockout next year. Rome also says he has "The Best Trophy Case Ever". Damn Right!

If everybody hates Rome, why do his bosses pay him 3 million dollars a year? That just sees stupid.
February 23rd, 2011 at 3:02 PM ^
The list of people who make a lot of money while being overall irrelevant and uninteresting stretches for miles. Literally....miles.

Look at pretty much any politic commentator on cable TV.
(Not taking a political stance, just pointing out that regardless of actual political orientation, they're all pretty terrible.)

Point is, their are a vast number of people who like him. I think they would not say it publicly because the elitists would berate them. Seems like it is "cool" around here to hate anyone and everyone who is a public radio or TV figure, UNLESS they are pro michigan. I listen to Rome sometimes but prefer Cowherd and the DP show. I don't despise any of them. Although, I would agree that Rome is the most annoying with all the soundbytes and phrases he plays.
February 23rd, 2011 at 5:57 PM ^
Vast numbers of people like Justin Bieber, it doesn't mean he's talented or relevant.
February 23rd, 2011 at 6:24 PM ^
I love Jim Rome! I think he is entertaining and hilarious.

I don't see how it's elitist to say I don't like Rome. I don't listen to really any sports talk radio (oddly enough, I listen to Rome more than anyone, just because that's what's on when I tend to be driving). He's a guy who's whole schtick is to be loud, in-your-face, obnoxious, and controversial. Part of that game is that he'll end up with very loyal listeners and he'll alienate a lot of people. Consider me among the alienated. That's just how the radio shock-jock game is played.

I hate Rome because he thinks Drew Sharp is talent.

As much as I can't stand his show and think he's a massive human headache, I do agree that his interviews tend to be pretty good (I think out of respect for the people he's interviewing, he tends to tone down his "you're all idiots and I'm going to berate you for being stupid and you'll love me for it" schtick). I'll have to track down the Woodson bit after work.

I believe if you go to the website I linked they will have the podcast there if you can't find it anywhere else.

Here is the link. Sorry I don't know how to imbed videos on here.

This is one today was on his radio show, but that one was a good interview as well, the day after the Super Bowl I believe.

I don't know why i seem to be the only one, but i like Rome. There are certainly times when he turns me off, but overall i enjoy his sarcastic sense of humor. For the record, i do NOT like his tv show. For those that don't like his tv show, i would say check out his radio show, i think they're much different.
Also would like to add, during the Groban thing with Rrod at the banquet, i hated that Rome ran with that story out of context like everyone else and it helped me to realize he's really no different than other media honks.
For me on my lunch hour though, the options are rome's radio show and the Scott Van Pelt show. I enjoy them both and switch back and forth on commercial breaks.
Rome has always loved Charles, and i'll have to check out the interview since i missed it today.

I'm with you buddy, i've been listening to Rome's radio show for 9 years now, he always says you have to give the show 2 weeks to really understand what it's all about. I agree with you that he overkills things sometimes but I think he's pretty damn funny, and for the most part when he rants about certain things I agree with him. I can understand why a lot of people don't like him though, but to me he's funny and entertaining. Plus he really does love all the Michigan players and the University.

I used to call into the show as Willie-In-Kc some time ago. I had a chance to meet Jim at the Kansas City tour stop. He spent a fair amount of time and came off as a genuine guy. I think if you give the show a good listen over 2 weeks to pick up the nuiances there is a good chance you will continue to listen.
February 23rd, 2011 at 8:56 PM ^
Your Willie - In - Kc! No shit! You were a great caller until Romey ran your ass and blocked you. Yeah I met him when he came to Michigan to do the show at the Farmington Hills station, after he went to Northville Downs and I talked to him for about 10 minutes. I agree he is a genuine guy, he's an entertainer so of course he's going to act the way he does on his show. He's a good guy though no doubt about it.
