Will Campbell

Submitted by MinorRage on
Looks like he's visiting 'Bama this weekend per rivals. That scares me a bit. I really think he is the most important recruit that we need, not just for D-line dominance but also for Little brother dominance in the state. (Most important closely followed by Jelani)

Campbell is about to live in the shitty weather zone known as AA for the next 4-5 years; let the kid enjoy the nice weather in Louisiana, Alabama, and Florida for a few weekends. Hell, right now here in West Texas, it's mid 70s, whereas in AA it's 49 with overcast weather. Why would he not want to take any visits (free BTW) Campbell will be Blue.

If I was in their place I would love to go on visits. Its a free weekend vacation, with complimentary AMAZING seats to a high quality football game, and a night of raging parties afterwards where you KNOW they have a good selection of women to choose from. Its moments like these that make me I wish I had some MAD football skillz.

To be honest with you I have no idea. I've put together so many different scenarios in my head, and none of them makes sense. Him and his teammates have given no clues, either. The most I got out of one of them was when I was so frustrated I just came out and asked one of them if he was going blue, they responded with a high school..."idk, we'll see." Which only fueled the fire inside me. My gut reaction is yes, he's going to make the right decision. He's been to almost every home game this year, if not all of them. He's got teammates coming and already there, and seems like Michigan has the interest of another, in Dior Mathis. HOWEVER, Alabama and LSU, I'm guessing have some pretty good arguments right now. Les Miles, no matter what anyone says, is a charismatic guy, and people listen when he talks. He's a natural leader, and that reflects to the recruits. Nick Saban, he wins. When Will shows up there, all Saban has to do is put a top 25 poll in front of him, and sit there. So, to answer your question, I have no idea. This is the only recruit that I really have gotten no hints from, and can't wrap my fingers around anything. But, like I said, I think if I had to guess, I would say Michigan.

I interviewed Willie Haulstead recently, and he had some weird things to say. It should post sometime next week, so you can read the whole thing then, but I'll give you this little bit from it. I asked him if he's going to make an announcement to decommit when he knows (or if he wants to), or wait until the end. He told me he's going to wait after all his visits, then let everyone know what he's deciding. As far as other kids, yes there is some noise.

LSU has commitments from 5-star Chris Davenport and 4-stars Josh Downs and Akiem Hicks at defensive tackle. I'll go on the record as saying I doubt Campbell ends up at LSU.

That's not necessarily what they think about, especially players like Big Will. USC has a 4 star DT, with 4 freshman DT's and soph's and juniors in front of them. Miami has a 4 star DT, with 10 possible non-seniors in front of them. Alabama has two 4 star DT's. Will Campbell thinks he's good enough to play anywhere with anyone. He's not looking at the 4 stars with any fear.

If there is any school I am worried about it is Miami just because of their history with producing great defensive players into the NFL:see Vince Wilfork.

So, it appears that Big Will is taking his head coach along on his recruiting trips. It would seem to me that this means he's not just visiting these schools for the free trips. He's going to make an honest evaluation of each program that he visits, which is what he should do. I don't think its a given that he ends up at Michigan.

.....with Dior Mathis joining Big Will on his trip to Bama' and reportedly potentially getting offered on the trip I am a bit uneasy. With the way Bama is playing right now and people seeing the resurgence under Saban, they may both be gone.

Hopefully these guys are the types (though I don't think they are) who would like to be close to home. I'm also worried about Saban's powers of persuasion, it doesn't help that his team is currently #1 in the country, but at the same time both of these guys have been to a number of UM games and will likely be on campus again soon, plus a number of their teammates are coming here. That should help a lot.

Well, I still think, as of now, Will Campbell will choose Michigan. I think it's more up in the air for Dior, I was told he's just having fun with the process right now. I just read on gobluewolverine.com that December 6th is the next big recruiting day. Will Campbell will be there, Sam Montgomery, Donovan Tate, Angelo Hadley, Mywan Jackson, The Liberty boys, the Cass Tech Commits, JAMAL PATTERSON, and JT Turner. Like I said, that's from GBW, so there might be more. I'm trying to find out right now. As I have said before, I would expect the outside WR recruiting to start heating up. Patterson, Haulstead, and Stokes are probably our best targets right now. I honestly think we are positioned really well for them, and we're going to have plenty of time to focus on them (damn). I still don't know what Donovan Tate is doing, since he was projected top 10 pick in MLB draft this year. I can't read him, but we'll see. We also can't forget Vlad is deciding his school the day after the Michigan vs. OSUck game. (I refuse to acknowledge the "The" in OSU) So everyone keep your ears to the ground, if anyone hears anything keep updating. It's about to start going fast.

I'm assuming he's keeping his options open by committing for football as well, so even if he commits to Michigan I wouldn't expect him to necessarily play football. If he's a high pick in baseball they won't want him playing football -- the guys who do both college football and minor league baseball are usually picked outside of the first couple of rounds (Henson was a 3rd rounder IIRC) and don't get massive bonuses. He could always play football later if he gets frustrated with baseball after a few years, a la Josh Booty.
