Who is your #5 and #6 in the CFP?

The top 4 won't change...but who would you put at #5 and at #6?

  • LSU
  • USC
  • Clemson

Pains me to say this, but LSU.  I'd say SC's defense is nonexistent, but then what do you say about UCLA?  Clemson is just not good -- I think they would go 3-11 against the rest of the top 15 teams.  LSU struggled early but seems to have it together now.

Tennessee throttled LSU in Shreveport.  I understand that there is a recent game bias in college football rankings but there shouldn't be, at least not until the system is expanded so that all teams with an argument make it into the playoff.  Throw in Bama and I'd rank them Tennessee, LSU, and Bama in that order and they are all behind USC and Clemson.  Will the committee have the balls to do that though?

5: USC

6: LSU

7: Clemons

USC’s defense is ass, but their lone loss was by 1 @Utah. Although LSU has two losses, including a blowout to TN at home, they have to keep that second SEC team within striking distance for you know, reasons. Clemons only has 1 loss, but they’re a damn fraud, the ACC is severely overrated, and ND blasted them.

It would’ve been awesome if UCLA pulled it off yesterday.

Bama will jump Clemson.

They need to set it up so if TCU and/or USC lose, Bama can sneak in above 1 loss UM/OSU loser.

SEC deserves 2 teams in because it just means more.

1) UGA

2) OSU

3) UM

4) TCU

5) USC

6) LSU

7) Bama

8) Clemson

Our rooting interests won’t be clear until after the Game.

Yes, it's really quite interesting.  If we win, our rooting interests will instantly go 180 degrees in the opposite direction.

We don't want OSU to sneak in the back door of the CFP after we beat them at home.

And we would also want those you-know-they-are-not-really-that-good teams like Clemson and TCU to now make it in the CFP.

Everything turns on a dime at 3:30 PM on Saturday.

Look at LSUs schedule and I cant figure why theyre even close to the CFP other than the perception that Bama is awesome. Their 2nd best win is…thunking Ole Miss? Who just got killed by Arkansas…

  1. UGA
  2. OSU
  3. M
  4. TCU
  5. USC
  6. Penn State
  7. Oregon
  8. Clemson
  9. Tennessee
  10. LSU
  11. Alabama

lol

You can't knock Bama and then rank them #11.

There is not that much different from beating the #8 team to beating the #11 team.

So even if they are overrated (which I think they are)...you just killed your own point when you posted your rankings.

That's still a very quality win (beating #11). Michigan is using PSU as a quality win and that's about what they are ranked.

And the transitive property kills your other point...because who is Michigan's second best win?

Illinois? They lost to MSU... So Ole Miss losing to Arkansas (who is better than MSU btw) doesn't mean what you're claiming it means. Not unless you want to discredit Michigan as well.

You are doing exactly what you're accusing SEC homers of doing...you're picking and choosing data to meet your own narrative, when there are blatant contradictions right in front of you.

USC should be above LSU. They were a 2-point conversion away from beating Utah on the road and being undefeated. It's all gonna be academic in a few weeks anyway because there's no way that LSU offense can score on UGA and their defense has enough holes to be exploited in the passing game.

Personally, I think LSU, USC and Clemson all have at least one more loss in them and will be shut out of the playoff.

My list wouldn't be who I think the better team actually is, it'd have to be based on the years performance and records.

For right now:

I'd have to rank Tennessee over LSU and Bama because they beat them both this year,  including @ LSU, and have equal records, even though their season is clearly over going forward.

I have to have USC move up over LSU, due to the recent ranked win, and their only loss being @ ranked utah by 1 point.

I have to put Oregon over Tennessee as the best 2 loss team, by resume. Both losses were ranked, one on the road, and one of those was to Georgia in week 1, and have 3 ranked wins on the season, including a top 10 win.

Clemson stays low due to only 1 quality win @ FSU.

Georgia

Ohio State

Michigan

TCU

USC

Oregon

Tennessee

LSU

Bama

Clemson

Penn State

Very unlikely USC beats both ND and Oregon. If they do, then they deserve to be in.

As others have said, if we win we want the toughest possible team at #4 to test Georgia. Either OSU or Bama.

The question is, does the committee reward USC for beating a quality opponent, or do they reward LSU for beating Birmingham, a scrub, in the middle of the season after all their talk about strength of schedule.

My prediction: LSU at 5.

Well, any argument about the top teams has to begin with the premise that Alabama is the best team in the country at any given time, no matter what. So, that's a given.

LSU and Tennessee actually beat Alabama, so those two teams are the betterest teams in the country.

And then Tennessee beat LSU! So, Tennessee is the bestest great team in the country.

But then, but then Georgia and South Carolina beat Tennessee, who beat Alabama and LSU, so Georgia and South Carolina are the bestest bestest teams in the country.

But wait! Arkansas beat South Carolina, so Arkansas is even the betterest team in the country!!!

OMG Texas A&M and Mississippi St beat Arkansas though, so those are the best and final best teams in the country with Georgia!!!!

So, the top eight in the playoff rankings should therefore be:

  1. Alabama
  2. Georgia
  3. Texas A&M
  4. Mississippi St.
  5. Arkansas
  6. South Carolina
  7. Tennessee
  8. LSU

Because the CFP committee genuflects at the altar of Nick Saban the committee’s efforts will focus on moving Alabama up to 6th this week and then higher next week. Plus, Gary Danielson said they still have a shot.

If it was me - and note this is only based on resume to date:

Tennessee, LSU, Alabama, USC, PSU, Oregon, Clemson (at 11).

Despite last night, I’d still rank the 3 non Georgia SEC teams based on head to head.  And all of them have better wins than anyone else further down the line.

Before I get the neg votes for “SEC bias!” - only LSU and USC have a chance (USC has 2 of them) to significantly boost their resume.   Nobody except LSU and USC can really jump the Top 4 IMO unless you get something crazy (eg TCU or Georgia losing out).

Absent some craziness, it’s down to 6 teams for 4 spots.  The current top 4 plus LSU and USC.  I wouldn’t worry about Tennessee or Alabama.

The problem people forget to notice is those "better" wins are only better because the sec teams are already ranked higher than they should be.
It's all about perception. If the PAC started the season with 4 teams in the top 8, the perception would be those teams are just so good they are all beating up on each other. That's what we get every year with sec. I've been saying it for years. If the sec was really that good they wouldn't have an undefeated team every year. Sure bama and Georgia are good, but it falls off a cliff after that just like the big ten.
