BIRMINGHAM, Mich. (AP) — San Francisco 49ers' receiver Braylon Edwards is suing a Michigan restaurant and three of its employees for more than $14 million for slander, extortion and malicious prosecution following an altercation.

The suit in Oakland County Circuit Court claims that $15 million in guaranteed money from an NFL team was rescinded after allegations surfaced that Edwards was directly involved in the Aug. 1 incident at Birmingham's South restaurant.

Edwards, a former star at Michigan, says he "was forced to take a contract" with another team for "only $1 million in guaranteed money."

I'd like to see this get to court, and see which team offered him $15M...

The entire foundation of Michigan football, at least since Bo, has been that nobody is bigger than the team.  Braylon, by his micromanagement of the #1 jersey, has decided that he is more important than players currently playing on the team.  While his contribution was a very nice thing to do, it should have been done with no strings attached.

They should tell him he has no input into the selection process and offer him his money back if he isn't satisfied.  It was AC who made the jersey important: not Braylon.  Luckily, AC is not only too humble to try and hold the number hostage, but has never done anything to lessen the name on either side of the jersey.

Foster, Swift has some good lawyers; but they aren't known at all as a Plaintiffs' personal injury firm.  They are mostly defense-side civil and business litigators.  I've never heard of the guy who filed this case.  And for a Honigman lawyer to be co-counsel.  Both of them very young lawyers, experience-wise.  What a weird lawsuit.

Did anybody else on this Board, where we are so completely hyper-linked into all things Michigan football, ever think anything other than that it was Braylon's entourage that got into a scuffle at the resataurant?  I didn't.  I actually now think less of Braylon and his involvement in that night now, having read the Complaint filed in Oakland County Circuit Court by his own lawyers, than before.

And honestly, did anybody think differently about Braylon as a result of that Birmingham incident?  That is, did anyone think less of Braylon, based solely on the restaurant scuffle?

Or was it all just another odd little footnote to his rumble with LeBron James' homeys, followed by his Ohio speeding/careless driving ticket, followed by his paternity case (filed in two separate states in a race to the courthouse), followed by his New York City DUI, followed by his driving off the road on Belle Isle at 3:30 am, all of which preceded the one rumored night on the town in Birmingham?

I didn't even bother reading the complaint because I know it would just make me sick.  There are so, so many reasons for Braylon not to file this lawsuit, the first of which is that he does not need the money.  Moreover, lets be honest:  Winning this lawsuit is not going to "clean" his name - his recent actions, including his DUI, shady car crash, and involvement in this fight (even if he did nothing other than hang out with the people involved), are what have tarnished his name.  A stupid lawsuit against a restaurant and its employees isn't going to do sh-t.  In fact, it only makes him look worse.

Honigman is a big enough firm to know better than to mess with crap like this.  The partners should have sat Braylon down and told him filing this suit is a waste of time and money.  This is why I said above that these kinds of lawsuits give lawyers a bad name.  I hate my colleagues sometimes.

That is, who offered the money, was it guaranteed, and when and why was it rescinded.  I know what Braylon's agents and lawyers are going to say; they work for Braylon.

I'd like to see what the Vikes' front office has to say, and especially what is committed to writing.

And it'll be one hell of a deposition with Braylon, won't it?

If Braylon can prove the staff lied to the police to tie him into this, attempted to extort money him or anything of that nature, I will wish him all the best.

No way he gets 14 million, but if these people went after Braylon solely because they thought he had deep pockets he deserves the vindication of winning a lawsuit at least.

I appreciate what Braylon did when he donned the winged helmet; some really great memories from his time here. But that doesn't give him carte blanche to be a moron. He's an embarrassment to everything Michigan football stands for. If DB & Co. decide to put a patch on the #1 jersey (which I would totally be in favor of), I hope Braylon's name is left off of it. He doesn't deserve that honor at this point.
