What will John U Bacon title his next behind the scenes book about Coach Harbaugh?
As a refresher:
"Three and Out" was about RichRod
"Fourth and Long" was a behind the scenes look at UM/NW/PSU/OSU and CFB in general
"Endzone" (aka "Brandon's Lasting Lessons") was about the Hoke/Brandon fun
"Overtime" was about the 2018 season under JIm Harbaugh
A few thoughts: "Sudden Death"; "Failed Conversion"; "Turnover on Downs"; "Unknown Enthusiasm"; "Infinite Tears"; "Well, That Sucked"

"Why you need to stop Curtis Samuel when you have him in a corner on 3rd and 9 but fans will bitch about the super close call on 4th and 1."

I cannot upvote this enough

Had him for about a 5 or 6 yard loss to bring up 4th and 14ish... uncle leo gets it.
December 15th, 2020 at 10:19 PM ^
Yep, and peppers is the one that could have totally destroyed him instead peppers bit on his stupid fake instead of forcing him to the sideline which totally fucked us

Just a “wtf is happening!!!!” moment. Still have vivid bad dreams about that play.
December 16th, 2020 at 5:24 AM ^
Or the fumbled Speight snap before half... or the Speight WTF pick from the shadow of our own end zone... or the spot...
Crazy how so many single near misses in that game lead to not just a loss, but a turning point of the Harbaugh regime
December 16th, 2020 at 8:45 AM ^
Or the illegal hands to the face on Mason Cole after a huge gain on a screen pass...
Or a missed cut by Chris Evans for a potential TD
Or...
The list goes on

You mean "the play where multiple OSU holds allowed Curtis Samuel to get free after being stopped for a loss?" Yeah, I remember that play.
December 16th, 2020 at 8:57 AM ^
This is exactly what I mean, right here. This is, sadly, still a large portion of our fan base.
There were like 6 Michigan players that had a free run at Samuel, and they all took absolutely piss poor angles.
But yeah, let's blame the refs.
December 16th, 2020 at 9:40 AM ^
An argument that I could, perhaps, get behind if the refs were calling other penalties against Ohio State. There were zero live-ball fouls called on OSU all day except for holds called on sack plays. There were numerous infractions on the tape, two of which the Big Ten admitted were the worst no-calls that officiating crew committed all year.
With cleaner execution, Michigan COULD have overcome the officiating bias. The problem is, in that scenario, OSU COULD have simply committed more live-ball penalties that the refs weren't going to call, and you'd be complaining about a different play Michigan's execution wasn't flawless on.

Uh Wilton Speight?! Pick 6, fumble at the goal line, another pick that gave them great field position to score their 2nd touchdown. The defense did their job that day. The offense did not. If we don't make these crucial turnovers we runaway with this game by 3 TDs. OSU could not score on the defense that day.

My apologies to the board if that's the case - I don't recall seeing it but I must have just missed it. My bad for retreading old ground.

Whether you saw it or not, how about we all agree that the idea of another Bacon book on UM football should die in a fire?

I have never been a fan of his.
He reminds me of Dakish. He seems way to self important to me.
I know people on here think he's a God but I really can't stand him.

This is the first time I think I've seen somebody badmouth JUB. He seems like a super-nice guy, he's very self-deprecating in interviews, and his students love him.
December 15th, 2020 at 10:29 PM ^
The only problem is both he and Sam Webb are both too slap happy. They tell us what the program wants to spin but the recent reality is hidden.
December 15th, 2020 at 9:52 PM ^
As a fellow part-timer with the A2 News sports department, I can say that he was a very quiet, genuinely nice person to be around. Obviously takes his work very seriously. You need all of those skills to do the kind of long-term pieces he writes.
December 15th, 2020 at 10:04 PM ^
What? Really? I was there in the late 80s and early 90s.
Only one who doesn't know John Bacon will denigrate him.
December 15th, 2020 at 10:03 PM ^
He signed my Endzone book "I suggest you find a new team to support. Have a happy life".
December 15th, 2020 at 10:52 PM ^
I’m not a big fan of his writing style. But he’s nice guy and I like the content of his books.
December 15th, 2020 at 11:04 PM ^
I think the only time JUB and Dakich have been in the same sentence is when someone says “John U. Bacon is nothing like Dan Dakich.”
Good grief.
