Western Michigan at Michigan......place your bets

Submitted by jamiemac on
Well, folks, we've finally got all the games for Week One of the season on the big board. Bet First Class and The Greek already have them up. I am sure the other off shores and the Vegas Books will follow suit in the next day or two. Here is the relevant news for folks reading this here blog: Western Michigan +12 at Michigan. Over/Under 53.5 Place your bets. Just a forum entry today. I promise more full length looks at the lines once I confer with my buddy Tragic. Oh wait, not those lines. Seriously, I will get my diary groove on this week for a more in depth look at the spreads across Big 10 land. So, you are forewarded. For now, chew on the above info.

(like Dex did on the wrestling thread)? Gut feeling, but I don't think we will recognize the team (in the good way for a change). But against ND the following week is an entirely different story. I'd take Michigan giving up the points.

I'll take the Broncos. I think Michigan wins the game but by somewhere closer to the 7-10 range

Michigan will (they god damned better) beat an average WMU team by more than 12. WMU is not a very athletic team. No burners on the team. Michigan should have a chip the size the Big House on their shoulder. Michigan will be foaming at the mouth to beat up on Western. They should want to beat them by 40.

I like WMU +12 and the under. Game will be close, but I'm not so sure there will be alot of fireworks. WMU lost alot of their players on the O-side of the ball, and we'll be working in a true freshman QB.

That would be cool! If so, i'd put some action on M without a doubt. I think the game will be close in the 1st half (+7 to 10 pts), but M will have the backups halfway thru the 4th quarter. RR will want to send a message to all the nation that UM is back.

I don't get why people who graduated from M bet on the football team. It just doesn't make sense unless you have inside info like "Sheridan is terrible - bet on Utah" or "Brandon Minor broke his neck and is out for his career". The purpose of betting is to make the game interesting / try to make money. I don't need to bet on M for either.... If you put a gun to my head, I'd take WMU and the points. +12 is a LOT of points for a team to cover. Add in our last two season openers (disasters), the fact we still have a lot of questions (new defense, how good is Tate, etc.), and 12 points is just a lot to lay. Of course I'm hoping we win by 50 but I'll take a 10 point victory margin.

I will take the over by halftime. 49-10 at the half. 65-21 final. Look for RR to make the statement "A new Era of Michigan Football Begins Today!!!"

For those of us who don't gamble, can anyone explain to me what "Western Michigan +12 at Michigan. Over/Under 53.5" means? Also if you bet now and the line changes, is your bet locked in with those current numbers, or do you get placed into the new numbers?

Michigan favored to win by 12 points. If you were to take Western they would have to lose by less than 12 points (or win) to win your bet. Over under is the total points scored in the game by both teams. Therefore if the score is 21-20, the total is 41.

Michigan 48 WMU 45 in double OT Offense looks pretty good. Special teams meh. Defense bad. This season will not be for the faint of heart.

I'd love to see the Wolverines feast upon the fleshy rumps of my alma-mater, but Michigan is cursed for opening games. I do think they'll win, but I'm afraid it won't be the blow-out we'd all enjoy . . . I'll take the Equines to cover.

I would expect that Michigan is going to have a huge chip on their shoulder for this game. While I would love to see a blow out to show that Michigan is back, it will probaly end up being around 10 to 14 points.

I think Michigan will blow Western out. Michigan should have repaired that little problem of kicking the ball around. IF so, this team is going to be dangerous. I think they could score in all three phases, offense, punt returns and kickoff.

I'm all about the over. WMU lost almost their entire defense, from a team that didn't have a great defense. We will put 35-40 on them. That said, we might give up 20+ because our D isn't amazing and they still have a good QB. I'll take M to cover - M 38, WMU 23.

But we do kind of luck out with our first two games. We face a pro-style offense two weeks in a row. The biggest improvement we should see will be on defense. Of course I'm one of the few that don't think our defense will be terrible. They should be much improved over last year.
