This week's Meteor Game - OSU v MSU

Submitted by KO Stradivarius on December 1st, 2020 at 11:56 PM

While it is still to be seen whether the game will actually be played, I was pondering the rooting interest for the OSU vs MSU game on Sat.  Hard to root for either one, so short of a meteor hitting East Lansing, who is the lesser evil to win?

Theee Ohio will be tough to beat even without Day coaching and missing players with Covid, but maybe vulnerable with the distractions?

Sparty at home is playing above expectations. Although you never want to boost recruiting, would an upset be a bad thing, however unlikely?   Or would you rather see the Death Star continue to pulverize the resistance as expected and spread the Empire?  I can't decide.

I'd rather none of them miss the game.  Not for the classic "want to be them at their best," but because beating us with their third string is just about the only accomplishment they can't hold over us at this point.  We are not close anymore.  I never thought I would be this apathetic about Michigan football.  It's just not worth the emotional investment anymore.  I'll watch all the games, but I haven't even gotten excited about a touchdown in weeks.  I certainly don't give a shit who wins between OSU and MSU.  The only small amount of pleasure I can foresee experiencing is if OSU becomes ineligible for the championship due to not enough games played.

I don't want to see MSU finish the season with a non-losing record. All things considered, that would make this a successful season for them. They would have that over us. As for Ohio State, they won't win the national title regardless of whether or not they make the playoffs(at least I think not) so at least we have that.

I spent my life drifting
To things that fall apart as soon as it gets hard
We live without leaders, but now there's nobody to steer
Captains go down with the ship, my friend, but there's no captains here

There's no petition we can sign to end poverty
Or to make "no" a word with teeth
I know there's not enough windows on this planet to break us free
But maybe one will be just enough for some dignity

Just do the dirt and walk away and don't say shit
My momma didn't raise no snitch
If anybody asks, well then I've never heard your name
No rest for the wicked till we've crossed the state

And common decency may lead us through a prison cell
Basic goodness take us to hell
But since we'll all return to dirt
Let's bring some stories for the worms

We don't know when
But the days will come again when their courts can't hold us in
We'll stand our ground no matter how many police appear
Captains go down with the ship, my friend, and we're all captains here
And just for a moment, we were all captains then

Well, I guess I want MSU to win. A loss almost surely knocks OSU out of the playoffs. One game isn't much of a recruiting bump. A good recruiter at Michigan will always have their pick of in-state talent.

Eh.  OSU is always going to recruit well regardless of winning or losing this game.  I don't want to see MSU recruits starting to believe and signing up there.  It's not hard to see which one has beaten OSU more recently and also has a B10 championship to their name.  So I think I'll go with OSU blowing their doors off as a safer choice.

Normally I love watching our rivals battle it out but, with the way this season has gone, if I was forced to make a choice between watching the OSU/MSU game on Saturday, or being chained to a radiator for 4 hours with jumper cables hooked to my testicles, while being repeatedly zapped with a car battery......I’d still pick watching the game.

But it would be a much closer decision than these two options should ever have a right to be.

In terms of program strength, we're far closer to our instate rival MSU than we are to OSU. For that reason alone, I want OSU to win.

Rooting interest? Meteor might be an apt description as such an event would, in the long run, give a lift to our record against both teams in the current coaching era.

How is this even a debate? Who roots against their neighbor? Ohio state hates everything about not just the University of Michigan, but our entire beloved home. Fuck osu.

Harbaugh put the state rivalry back in our favor despite the last loss.  This should suggest you should want OSU to win.

If there's one thing I don't want to see the in-state rival do that we can't, it's beat OSU. I hope all the good vibes floating around EL get blown apart before halftime.

OSU and it isn't particularly close.

Sparty will be insufferable if they beat Michigan AND Ohio State in Mel Tucker's first season.

Fortunately, this won't be a close game. Ohio State by 25

You can’t give Mel Tucker life.  Trying to take on OSU with a strong MSU is a huge challenge plus MSUs fan base is idiotic.  Keep MSU down and focus on OSU.

Both options are awful. I can't bring myself to root for either of them. But as far as which one would be less bad for Michigan, it would be OSU winning by a landslide.

OSU is already on top. Them winning this game does not elevate their profile. At all. It doesn't make their recruiting any better than it already is. It does not make Michigan look any worse.

If Mel Tucker wins this game, he immediately vaults MSU past Michigan as a more desirable program for as long as his tenure at MSU remains in place. Michigan fans should be terrified at the prospect of MSU winning this game, because if they do, whatever ground Michigan took over in the last 5-6 years goes away overnight. MSU recruiting will skyrocket and Tucker will have more to sell his program on to recruits than Harbaugh has been able to put together in six years.

If OSU wins, its just more of the same. Michigan needs OSU to absolutely clobber MSU this weekend. The consensus needs to be that the state of Michigan has two bad collegiate football teams instead of just one.

Not rooting for either "State" of the evil Buckeyes. OSU should win but Sparty has won two games they should have lost. It will be interesting to watch. I'll tune in for this one.
