Wednesday Night Games Open Thread

Apparently, getting eviscerated in the Gavitt Games is going to become an annual tradition for Villanova.  OSU is currently up 62-32 at home on the #10 (not for long) Wildcats (FS1).

Purdue is at Marquette in the nightcap at 9 PM on FS1; also, Providence is at Northwestern on BTN.

There's also MACtion football on ESPN2 and ESPNU.

DJ Carton looks like a star in the making. Really wish we could've landed him

BTW I remember everyone saying Carton chose OSU because he could start there and at Michigan he'd be behind Simpson. Well, Carton isn't starting at OSU so that narrative was false.

Are you suggesting that OSU coaches may have purposely misled or oversold his opportunities to Carton??!???!

Carton seems to want to be a one and done and what WAS clear was that he wouldn’t be starting for sure with X at Michigan.

Yeah, he probably also wasn't guaranteed to start at OSU but everyone and their grandma knew he had a much better chance to start at OSU, regardless of what the coaches may or may not have said.  If they said, you have the opportunity to come in and start, they weren't lying or misleading and that's not something Beilein could have sold.  He would have had to say, you'll likely apprentice under Simpson for a year and then become a stud in year 2 (like Morris, like Burke, like Simpson, etc).

I believe that was his goal, maybe he blows up and leaves, but he seems more like a 2 year guy. Compared to D-Lo, their games don't seem very similar to me, Carton is quicker, more explosive, but not as good a shooter, defensively I'm not sure I haven't seen him play enough. D-Lo is more combo guard to me and Carton is more a PG.

You don't want the truth because deep down in places you don't talk about at parties, you want OSU to win. You need that conference strength.

I will refrain from cheering against OSU or MSU when their victory directly helps Michigan.

Cheering for them due to an indirect notion of conference strength?  How ESS-EEE-SEE of you.  Not interested.  If MSU and OSU were to lose every non-conference game, I would enjoy each loss more than the last.

More relevant in football (even though you still never root for MSU or OSU) to care about conference strength.

In basketball, if you're good, you'll make the tourney regardless of SoS and if you're good enough there, you'll make the final four.

So F OSU and MSU.

My guess is the 6ers offer was the best he had so took the money (nice $2mm one year deal).  He's past the point of trying to get more playing time to prove himself.  He kind of is what he is - a guy that can play some on a bad team or little to none on a good team. If the good team is paying the most, he's at the point of his career where he should probably just take the biggest contract and I assume that's what he did.

Tuesday and Wednesday night football games are almost as lame as the lower tier bowl games. Bad teams coupled with just a few thousand fans in attendance. People don’t typically want to attend football games (especially with lower tier teams like those in the MAC) on those nights when most folks work the next day.

I know their real audience is ESPN viewers, but it must be weird for Northern Illinois and Toledo to play in front of a few hundred people in a mostly empty stadium.

Jordan Poole hits a 3 to open game for Golden St vs Lakers. Still wearing those short shorts. Then GRIII hits a 3 later in the game. He looks small out there next to Lebron. Lakers are freaking huge.

Purdue just allowed Marquette to go on a 45-17 run to lose the game. And Markus Howard only had 18points on the game and like 8 points during the run

45-17 run from the 2 minute mark of the first half.  We shouldn't read too much into early-season losses, but Matt Painter has some work to do on that offense.  12 points scored in the final 15 1/2 minutes.

Villanova was just terrible. I'm not that impressed with OSU. I watched them play UC and they were god awful. And they're still bad in the halfcourt. Nova was just awful on defense and couldn't hit water falling out of a boat.

Carton ain't no 1 and done. Dude looks like he's still in HS. Good quicks, but no way he has the body to play in the NBA.

M will beat them this year.

"no way he has the body to play in he NBA"???? Huh? The kid is 6'2, 190 lbs. and has tremendous athleticism. Dunks with ease (as he showed last night....).

Frankly, from what I saw at the game last night, he reminds me of a bigger, more athletic Michael Conley.......
