I signed it, but who honestly believes that anything will come of this or actually create change?

We'll bad mouth the NCAA for a few weeks, they'll get some gruff from some non-SEC media outlets for maybe a week, and then soon after this will all be forgotten by new stories. The NCAA will continue to profit and make more money off of the student athletes that they claim to be protecting.

The real damage will be done by the lawyers. This "ban" clearly violates anti-trust laws and is an illegal restraint of trade.

Harbaugh should sue the NCAA and the SEC (for good measure).

Pretty sure college coaches will have a case too. The NCAA is telling them that they can't be paid for participating in satellite camps. Even if making money on the side isn't the main purpose of camps, it seems like an illegal restraint of trade, just like the rule that capped assistant coaches' salaries that was found to be illegal

I see your point, but you are comparing someone volunteering their time to someone not getting paid. NCAA just banned someone volunteering their time because others don't want to put in the time or not getting paid. Don't know if that will a solid case for opposing coaches. Not a lawyer myself. Nonetheless, this is America and anyone can sue.

I know it's the temptation to overthink things like this. But then, there's the reality:

It's this simple:

The SEC, the ACC, Notre Dame, and little sister Big 12 all went to the NCAA and said: Do what we want (again), or we're out. Bye bye NCAA, bye bye hundreds of cushy jobs, bye bye bowl games and bye bye ANY governeing body even pretending to get a handle on this horse out of the barn.

Now, the Self Righteous Big Ten (exception: Jim Harbaugh) should simply say, "Fuck You" and get either around it, or just hold them anyway. To get around it? Hire a Satellite Camp Expert. A couple high school coaches, AAU guys, whatever, to go around doing this.

Now, what the SEC et al have done, besides crying like hypocrittical cunts, is to set the NCAA straight. Those three conferences and Notre Dame don't need ANYBODY else. They can form their own league, association, etc, and the whole thing comes tumbling down.

By the way--it WILL happen. Probably sooner than later. Better get ready, cuz realignment of conferences ain't seen nothing yet.

I signed.  Its up around 1300 now...

I'd really like to see this make a difference, but I just don't think it will.  If the NCAA didn't care enough to begin with, why would it start now?  You can't fix stoopid.

Rolling stone set to release a story about Urban covering up a drive by shooting by Hernandez. Wow! Too lazy to create a thread.

My brief statement: The NCAA's ban on satellite camps is severely and tragically limiting the academic and athletic opportunities for kids (especially those of limited means) which would expose them to tremendous possibilities to pursue their dreams and achieve success.

Petitions won't matter. They only thing that would matter is if recruits boycotted schools that backed the ban (and perhaps a recruit led petition) or a lawsuit by someone on behalf of recruits that are harmed by this or maybe on behalf of the nonprofits that are trying to help inner city kids. It can't have anything to do with Michigan though.

I just did it, thanks for posting this. I know it gives our Team a better chance to compete in the recruiting game, but it also does help players that wouldn't normally be exposed to the next level of coaching.

I reread the petition. This is terrible. It's completely inflammatory. The wording undermines the message. Take any mention of Jim Harbaugh and Nick Saban out of it. And Jims picture. Put a picture of a camp with kids at it. It's ok mentions the SEC and ACC and NCAA but don't make it personal. It undermines the message. This is about harming kids and taking away opportunities for kids. All fans including the ones in the South can get behind that. Please clean this up, whoever wrote it. You're making it worse.

Although I signed, both, this one is likely to be much more impactful as it focuses on the issues rather than the individual coaches (Harbaugh and Saban).  Well done!

Why don't we just disobey the rule? What would the NCAA do if UM, OSU, PSU and any other impactful school just ignored it? Edit: don't think PSU would be very enthusiastic about any civil disobedience

I don't think they'd do it.  PSU doesn't have the moral cache to stand against the NCAA, and I don't think OSU cares enough about anything.  Keyrist - OSU fans carried a cheater that led them to a bowl ban off the field!  They wouldn't do anything to back UM.

They should have left Harbaugh and Saban's names out of it. The ruling affects all kids from across the country. The way the petition is wrote it seems like an Alabama vs. Michigan, SEC vs. Big10 thing. But is should be about the kids, not politicized. Should tone down the Harbaugh vs. Saban angle to make less polarizing.
