Seth says not Muppet worthy...

Congrats!!!  That was a gutty check down the stretch against Baylor.  In the tourney last year, Baylor knew they were going to win.  Yesterday they thought they were going to.  This time, though, Michigan was the team that knew.

A serious conversation needs to be had with the site owners about what transpired this weekend.  If the men had defeated a top 5 team, the front page would have been filled with celebratory items.

I get it; women's sports are not as popular, don't generate the money, and has no historical significance. Unfortunately, that will always be the case as long as those who cover sports refuse to help create and promote those things.

Great job ladies and keep up the great work!

I can understand the no-writeup part - after all, it costs money to assign someone to cover the game.  Alex or Seth (or whoever) would have to be paid for game coverage, story development, etc...  And women's sports don't drive this site - football and MBB drive it.  Hockey gets an honorable mention because the site owner adores hockey.

What I don't get is the lack of Muppets for such a win - the first time in HISTORY that it happened.  And it doesn't appear like a one-off, the team has shown steady improvement for several years and has legitimately earned that win and its top 10 ranking.  Ace (STFU) started 'repping the women's team a couple of years ago and started ramping up this sites user base to the program.  That head start has been flushed down the toilet.

I mean, maybe pay the Daily to reprint their writeup?  In any case, WBB deserves better from the schools most popular sports site...

This feels almost Orwellian. The idea that sports media has some moral obligation to create market and demand for less popular sports (be they women's sports or just niche sports) seems bizarre. You spell out exactly why there is less coverage -- less people care. MGoBlog cannot cover every single sporting event on Earth and may not have had anyone even watch the game to give a write up about it. If there's some clamor for more women's basketball coverage, it would seem to me that market inequality would self-correct, but the idea that its specifically (or in part) MGoBlog's responsibility to CREATE interest in women's basketball or men's fencing, is just backwards.

The owner/writers of this site cover the sports they're passionate and deeply knowledeable about.  To ask them to exercise that level of passion because you want them to is a bit much ... What has happened is that a User has written a great Diary about some Michigan's team story or accomplishments and the site has Frontpaged it. So I would say, if you want great content about a very deserving women's team, then create it.

That's awesome. I really didn't think they could beat Baylor, but they did it! We're a women's sports school now!

In other WBB top 10 news, UConn is out of the top 10 for the first time in 16 years! That's an insane run.

Congrats to the ladies. I don't follow the team but I know historically they've been one of the few teams we always struggled to be top 10ish in - IIRC when I was in school they were pretty bad. Really really good job by KBA

Winning cures everything. Right now people are dismissing us because of a bad game @Louisville. If WBB stays undefeated in the B1G by winning the next 5 games (including 16 Jan @Maryland), that will get peoples' attention. Hope Dilk returns soon and Varejao continues to improve and earn her minutes.
