Warren's Interception

Submitted by M-Go-Bleu on
Just read an article, where Warren stated that he hit the ground and then just out tugged him for the ball. I'm not sure he should have said it; doesn't it call into question whether it was a legit interception. Also, I'm not sure that control was ever established by the offensive player, not sure on the rules, but I assume that you would have to be able to see in the video that he had posession which I couldn't see, so I think it was the right call. The announcers seemed to think it was an obvious reversal... what's the rule say?

Of course he's going to out-tug the receiver! You don't expect him to just say, "Dibs, got it!" and let go, do you? Warren had initial possession, the receiver was a split-second late and tried to wrestle it away. Warren won.

the game's over, but i would say that was probably a bad call. but the refs were pretty bad for both teams today. whats the deal with all this shitty reffing this year? edit: never mind. i just saw the pics from maize n brew. good call. now we can officially say they won fair.

i.e. there seems to be a new rule that took away the ND TD last week that Michael Floyd appeared to catch. Floyd had control all the way until he hit the ground, but the ball bounced out upon impact. I thought it was a TD, but apparently this year you have to maintain possession through the ground impact. If the ball had come loose instead of Warren taking sole possession, should the play have been ruled an incompletion? If the loss of possession by the WR receiver came "close enough" to the ground impact (I don't know how to define that), then I believe the call would be correct. In 2008, that's an IU catch for sure.

The call on the field was an interception, we can go argue all day about the call itself, but the review crew upstairs must have indisputbale evidence to overturn the call on the field, which the replay certainly did not reflect anything that was indisputable. From the shots on Maize n Brew, I'd say it was a decent call

Boy this pisses me off... another damned "conspiracy"....first of all Warren had it the whole time as the photos show, so they couldnt over turn it as well... also people are assuming that the little 6 yd pass play deep in Indiana territory was going to result in a TD drive for Ind? The PSU, ND babies complaining need to just shut up.

Even if the refs got it wrong, it doesn't mean they win. The ball was at what, their 40? An overturned call would just have allowed their drive to continue. If you want to start about the refs, what about the mutiple pick plays IU ran, the phantom PI call, etc. The refs were shitty both ways. But lets not waste our time. Its Sparty week.

This was just a play that would have PROLONGED IU's possession. It would not have won the game for them...far from it. It did seal the game for us, but had it not been an INT, that would not have lost the game. IU still had a long way to go.

They talked about this during the Penn State/Iowa game and the word from the replay officials at the game was that the call on the field WAS NOT simultaneous possession and thus they couldn't overturn the call on that basis.

It was a terrible call and I was shocked they didn't overturn, but who cares really? this is the kind of thing that indiana should be obsessed about...not us. Our defense was terrible and we gutted out a win. Lets just be thankful that our team is showing so much character and tenacity in these tough games, because it's going to be the difference between a poor season and an unexpectedly good one.

...there was no way they could overturn it. NO IRREFUTABLE EVIDENCE. Besides, why are IU fans assuming that they would have marched down the field and won if they had gotten the call? If Forcier is healthy tomorrow, this game turned out fine. Robinson got some much-needed experience, UM got the win, and Forcier enhanced his reputation as a gritty QB, only four games into the season.

PSU fans are having a field day with this thing. It seems they are convinced the entire big10 officiating crew is trying to throw games for Michigan.

It is based on the uh, fine ESPN announcers deciding that there was simultaneous possession despite not being able to see the ball. That was hard to top, but they did, they followed it up by reading the minds of the officials. I can only attribute it to the power of The Force.
