Very cool ESPN feature on the 30th anniversary of Desmond's Heisman pose

I can't believe it's been 30 years. Seems like a long time.

This feature includes some video, some graphical stuff, and some oral history. Very well done.

I have a condition that I call Michigan Tourette's Syndrome.

I rarely use "colorful" language. But I can sometimes spontaneously erupt with obscenities, almost always a reaction to something related to Michigan athletics.

There is no moment that more consistently nor feverishly sends me into Michigan Tourrette's than seeing Desmond's Heisman pose. There can be a collage of sporting clips quickly whirling by, and if one of those is the pose my wife is shocked to hear me say words she's never heard me say before.

The pose is the greatest culprit to trigger my Michigan Tourrette's.

The best part of the whole thing for me is Keith Jackson saying "Oh would you look at that" or something to that effect after an early move.  Almost under his breath, like he was an amazed fan watching and enjoying like us.

"...like he was an amazed fan watching and enjoying like us."

He was.  That's what made him so special and so very good at what did.  Everyone else considers themselves to be part of it, and they relay it like that - like they're part of what's happening on the field.  It comes across as empty and fake.

Jackson just enjoyed the action and talked to us like he was watching it with us.

The play is truly iconic.  If you say "The Pose" in reference to college football everyone knows what it is.  Even more so than "The Catch" which can have other references depending on your bias.

As good as Keith Jackson's call was, I've always thought Frank Beckmann's radio call was every bit as exciting—it starts at 3:42 of the video:

I was in the southwest endzone, 7 rows up with a girlfriend who was an OSU freshman cheerleader I met while working at Cedar Point for the summer that year. Yes, she was super cute, she worked on the Space Needle, I worked Demon Drop . Awful tickets as most action on was other end of field, paid $20 each and it seemed like a lot to pay until that play and that pose.  No marshmallows because I was not in student section but was so close I could've tossed one in his face mask.  Lost the voice enjoying the best game moment ever.  Still smile big thinking about that moment, that day and that girl every time it is shown.
