Vegas odds if HE leaves

Heard this on radio on way home out here in Portland (believe it or not it's a college football town)

Thought about not posting cause I am a Harbaugh guy, but it is interesting

1. Bronco Mendenhall

2. David Shaw

3. Kyle Wittingham

I hope Harbaugh brings us back, got to beat Iowa.

But if he goes, I would want Chris Peterson #1, Kyle Wittingham would be my #2

If he goes, it will because he resigned at the end of the season

Harbaugh probably will not survive if he has a losing year with a loss to OSU. Coaches don't survive this rivalry going 0-5, on either side. John Cooper was about to go 0-5 and be fired but avoided it by virtue of the tie in 1992 which Gordon Gee foolishly called the greatest "win" in OSU history.

BRENT F’ING VENABLES + TONY ELLIOTT or JEFF SCOTT!!!!

This list seriously makes me want to walk into oncoming traffic.  And is the first true sign of Michigan football actually coming to an end.  YOU “fans”/alums/donors are such morons that THESE are the only options Michigan football (2nd biggest fanbase in the country; 3rd richest program in the country) has.  Its the actual end unless there is a DRASTIC AND IMMEDIATE change amongst all the major decision makers.

BRONCO MENDENHALL!!!!!!???  He’s your best option!!!??  He’s 20-22 in 4 yrs at Virginia!!?  He went 4-4 in conference last yr....  in the worst p5 conference in america (basically clemson plus the mac right now)...  and you guys are saying he TURNED THEM AROUND???

David Shaw!!?  A 1-3 coach is on “the realistic list”.  He’d be on our already fired list if he was 1-3 here???  USC, Washington, Washington St, UCLA, maybe Oregon, maybe even Arizona St.  have all surpassed in in the Pac12..  and hes our SECOND BEST choice??

Kyle Whittingham — the only guy who isnt passing David Shaw — is next?  A 9-5 coach last yr??  5 loss guys are on our list??  Who haven’t won anything since the Mountain West conference in 2008??  Those guys are on our list??

A guy who just lost 0-42 to Ohio State is on THE F’ING LIST!!!?

A Syracuse coach who just lost 6-41 to Clemson is on THE F’ING LIST!!!!?

A guy with a 21-20 record at Iowa St!!!?

A guy who the entire nation just demanded the scumiest school in the country fire is the only reap name on that list.

Mike Gundy — a guy who went 7-6 last yr (aka FIRED here)...   is the best name on the list.

***********

MAYBE.  Just Maaaaaaaaaybe.  You pompous A-holes should be a little less sensitive about Clemson boosters and Venables not being a “Michigan Man.”

Because the program is about to f’ing die.  Dead.

Another classic case of no actual research and not actually diving into the numbers.

BTW, nice -81 score.

MC the past two years is 18-11 at ISU, which as the Rutgers of the Big 12, is the equivalent to winning 10 at Michigan. Not to mention he's beat #3 Oklahoma, #4 TCU, and #6 WVU in three years.

BTW, MC has more top 25 wins on the road at Toledo than Harbaugh at Michigan.

While we are on Harbaugh, lets us not forget his to sub .500 years at Stanford. Since he is the savior. Everything he touched turns to gold.

Let us not forget the mighty Nick Saban at MSU. Five years and it took him until year 5 to win more than 7 games. In fact his record was 34-24 at MSU.

People shouldn't write off Matt Campbell's record at ISU.  ISU is the Rutgers of the BIg 12.  They are historically a terrible program.  Criticizing the guy for only going 8-5 is silly.

Questioning whether 8 wins at ISU translates into winning big at Michigan, however, is valid.  I don't know the answer to that.  I do trust, however, that 8 wins at ISU won't translate into 6 wins at Michigan.  And I doubt that it will translate into the dumpster fire that is the Michigan football team this year.  So I guess what I am trying to say is that I am ready to take a chance on a new guy, since the current guy is checked out and the program is in a RichRodesque meltdown right now.  He is a potential fit.  So is Jeff Brohm, if you ask me, and Mark Stoops, who I am surprised nobody has mentioned yet.

None of those guys are guaranteed to do better than Harbaugh.  No candidate who would realistically come to Michigan is guaranteed.  But I don't need a guarantee.  I need a pretty good chance, and after watching Michigan football since 2017, I think those chances are very good.

Why not look around the FCS? I can't believe that a better school didn't make an offer to Chris Kleiman before Kstate did. Dude's won four FCS national championships and have Kstate looking better than they've been since 2012 (knock on wood he doesn't get poached by a bigger school). Look for consistency and excellence in some young guy and take a chance.

Realistic list (meaning they wouldn’t automatically laugh in your face)

1. Bob Stoops

2. Joe Moorhead

3. Matt Campbell

4. Les Miles; with the stipulation of a young coordinator being named coach in waiting (someone like Kellen Moore, Graham Harrell, or even Gattis as examples/suggestions)

5. This is where you start getting desperate and go for someone like Bo Pelini

If it has to be from the group you suggested I would take Wittingham.  If I could have any coach it would be Lincoln Riley (long shot), Urban Meyer (long shot, probably the next coach at USC), or Joe Brady the former saints coach who is the person responsible for LSU’s passing game.  Unfortunately we’ll go with some coach who believes in the same bullshit we’ve been trying to run for the better part of the last 60 years.

My (realistic) choices:

1) Urban.

...In his contract at Florida, he had it written that he could opt out of his contract (with no buyout) to take the HC’ing job at 3 schools: OSU, ND and Michigan.  He’s pissed at OSU for, in his opinion, hanging him out to dry re: the Zach Smith saga.  He looks to me like he’s got about a decade of coaching left in him.  He’s 8th all-time right now w 3 NC’s (tied w 7 others).  1 more and he’d be 6th all-time (tied w 2 others).  2 more and he’d be 3rd all-time (tied w WOODY Hayes and 2 others).  3 more and he’ll be tied as the all-time best w Bear Bryant and Nick Saban.  Do not underestimate this man’s ego, or how important his legacy is to him — being called the greatest of all-time.  He’d be the surest thing to save our program for sure.  He’d put together an outstanding staff, two great coordinators and a group of elite MW/NE recruiters.  He’d probably turn us into THE power in the B1G within 2-3 yrs.  He’d probably win at least 1 national championship.  The Michigan PR machine could probably spin the Zach Smith/other past fine enough.  The fanbase would be too excited to care.  It could work.  ***That being said..  USC is an infinitely better job.  He could basically pick his own AD.  He’d be the biggest celebrity in Hollywood.  He could get a new, younger, hotter wife.  He’d have an immoral fan base that couldn’t care less if he killed someone.  His family wouldn’t get anthrax mailed to their house (at least not weekly).  And he could win 3 NC’s without ever having to get on a plane to recruit.  If USC can get their shit together enough to have someone call him..  he’s there.

2) Venables.

He’s the best defensive mind in college football today, period.  He (/our $$) would be able to bring one of Clemson’s Co-OC’s with him..  and that’s probably the best offense in college football right now. He’s personally an elite recruiter, and smart enough to put together a staff that could recruit the region (in spite of not having much recruiting experience in the region outside of the DMV).  He’s been the #2 man at a top-5 program for the last 20 yrs, and is still only 48 yrs old.  He’s got more than enough experience for the job, he knows how it’s done at the highest level, and he’s never once even been rumored to be involved in any below board activity.  He’d be outstanding.  The perfect answer to Ryan Day and the OSU machine.  A hire that would most definitely have us in NT contention if supported financially re: staff pay.

3) Moorehead.

His PSU offenses were elite.  His DC (Bob Shoop, a Yale man) at Miss St. is elite — #1 S&P+ defense in college football last yr.  8-5 (4-4) in his 1st season at Miss St.  3-1 so far this yr (lost to Kansas St..  eek).

Best 3 options, for sure.
